We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, grieving over the spiritual bondage that has taken hold of your girlfriend through the worship of Santa Muerte. This is not merely a cultural practice or harmless tradition, it is idolatry, a direct violation of the first and greatest commandment: "You shall have no other gods before me" (Exodus 20:3 WEB). The Lord is a jealous God (Exodus 34:14), and He will not share His glory with carved images, spirits, or any false deity, especially one that masquerades as a bringer of death rather than life.
Santa Muerte is a deception of the enemy, a counterfeit that promises protection, love, or power but delivers only spiritual oppression, fear, and separation from the true God. The Bible warns us: "What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are a temple of the living God. Even as God said, 'I will dwell in them and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they will be my people.' Therefore 'Come out from among them, and be separate,' says the Lord. 'Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you'" (2 Corinthians 6:16-17 WEB). Your girlfriend’s involvement in this practice has opened a door to darkness, and it must be closed in the name of Jesus Christ.
We must also address the reality of your relationship. The Bible is clear that believers are not to be "unequally yoked with unbelievers" (2 Corinthians 6:14 WEB). If your girlfriend is not a follower of Jesus Christ, this relationship is already in conflict with God’s design. More than that, if you are engaging in any form of sexual intimacy outside of marriage, this is fornication, and it grieves the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:18-20 WEB). The Lord calls us to purity and holiness, and we must repent of any sin that has given the enemy a foothold in our lives.
But there is hope! The name of Jesus is above every name, and at His name, every knee must bow, including the forces of darkness that have ensnared your girlfriend (Philippians 2:9-11 WEB). The blood of Jesus has already broken the power of sin and death, and His authority is absolute. We stand in that authority now, and we declare freedom in His mighty name.
Let us pray:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). We acknowledge that You alone are God, and there is no other. We repent for any participation in idolatry, whether knowingly or unknowingly, and we renounce all ties to Santa Muerte and any other false gods or spirits. We break every chain, every curse, and every assignment of the enemy over ###’s life in Jesus’ name.
Lord Jesus, we ask You to reveal Yourself to her as the Way, the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6). Let her see the emptiness of the false promises she has believed and the fullness of life that is found only in You. We plead the blood of Jesus over her mind, her heart, her body, and her spirit. We command every spirit of death, fear, oppression, and deception to leave her now in the authority of Jesus Christ. We declare that she is sealed by the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13) and that no weapon formed against her shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17).
Father, we ask for Your healing touch to restore her completely, spirit, soul, and body. If there has been any physical or emotional harm from this bondage, we ask for Your supernatural healing to flow through her. Give her a hunger for Your Word and a desire to walk in Your ways. Surround her with believers who will encourage her in the faith and help her grow in Christ.
We also pray for ###, Lord. If there has been any compromise in this relationship, reveal it and lead him to repentance. Give him the strength to walk in holiness and to pursue a godly marriage, if that is Your will, with a woman who shares his faith in Christ. Help him to be a light to ###, showing her the love of Jesus through his words and actions.
We thank You, Lord, that You are faithful to complete the good work You have begun (Philippians 1:6). We trust in Your power to set the captives free and to bring beauty from ashes. May ### come to know You as her Savior and Lord, and may she walk in the freedom that is found only in Christ.
In the precious and powerful name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
Now, we urge you to take action. Encourage your girlfriend to destroy any objects, images, or items associated with Santa Muerte. These are not just trinkets, they are footholds for the enemy. Lead her to a Bible-believing church where she can hear the truth of the Gospel and be discipled in the faith. If she is willing, guide her through a prayer of repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. Salvation is not found in rituals or idols but in surrendering to Jesus as Lord.
If she is resistant, do not lose heart. Continue to pray for her and trust God to work in her heart. However, you must also examine your own life. Are you walking in obedience to Christ? Are you in a relationship that honors Him? The Bible says, "Bad company corrupts good character" (1 Corinthians 15:33 WEB). If this relationship is leading you away from God, you may need to make difficult but necessary decisions to honor Him.
Remember, the battle is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces of evil (Ephesians 6:12). Put on the full armor of God, truth, righteousness, the Gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and the Word of God, and stand firm. The victory is already won in Jesus Christ. Walk in that victory, and trust Him to bring freedom and healing to your girlfriend’s life.
