We join you in thanking Jesus for this morning and for the gift of a new day, for this is the day that Yahweh has made and we will rejoice and be glad in it Psalm 118:24. We praise Him with you for His mercy and forgiveness, for His loving kindnesses never fail and they are new every morning, great is His faithfulness Lamentations 3:22-23.
We rejoice that you are seeking victory over sin and especially over lust, and we want to encourage you in this battle. You asked to find what is causing this sin so you may overcome it by His willpower and strength, and we affirm that true victory does not come from our own willpower alone but from the power of the Holy Spirit working in us, for it is not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says Yahweh of Armies Zechariah 4:6. When we try in our own strength we will fail, but when we walk by the Spirit we will not fulfill the lust of the flesh Galatians 5:16.
The Word shows us that lust often begins in the heart and mind before it becomes an action, for each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own lust and enticed, then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin James 1:14-15. That is why we are called to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ 2 Corinthians 10:5 and to be transformed by the renewing of our mind Romans 12:2. Boredom and idleness can indeed be an open door for temptation, so your desire for a good and wholesome hobby is wise. We encourage you to choose activities that honor God and build you up, whether it be studying the Word, serving others, exercise, music, or learning a skill, and to fill your mind with whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely and of good report Philippians 4:8. Above all we urge you to flee sexual immorality and flee youthful lusts 1 Corinthians 6:18, 2 Timothy 2:22, which means not to linger or fight it up close but to run from it, to make no provision for the flesh Romans 13:14, to guard your eyes and your heart, and to remove access to anything that stirs up lust.
You also prayed that false convictions would be cast away, and we agree with you there. There is a difference between the true conviction of the Holy Spirit which leads us to repentance and the false condemnation of the enemy which leads to shame and despair. For God did not send His Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through Him John 3:17, and there is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus Romans 8:1. If God convicts us, He does so to restore us and to create in us a clean heart Psalm 51:10, not to crush us. We pray you will learn to discern His loving correction and reject the lies of the enemy.
We pray together with you now.
Father in heaven, we thank You in the name of Jesus for this new morning and for Your forgiveness that has freed us from sin through the blood of Your Son. We thank You for this dear one who desires to walk in purity before You. Lord, we ask that You search this heart and reveal any root, any wound, any habit or thought pattern that gives place to lust, and give wisdom and strength to overcome it. Fill this life with Your Holy Spirit so that temptation loses its power, for You have promised that no temptation has taken us except what is common to man and You are faithful, You will not allow us to be tempted above what we are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape 1 Corinthians 10:13. Help us to see and take that way of escape every time. We ask that You cast away all negativity, all false guilt and every lie, and replace it with Your truth and peace. Lead to wholesome and godly pursuits and hobbies that occupy the hands and mind for Your glory and keep us from idleness. Draw us closer to You daily, create in us a clean heart and renew a right spirit within us Psalm 51:10. Help us to submit to You and resist the devil so he will flee from us James 4:7. We pray for everyone who is struggling today, that You would lift them up and let them feel Your goodness and nearness. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.
