We hear your heart’s cry, dear sister, and we come before the Lord with your request, seeking His perfect will for your life. This struggle between longing and letting go is heavy, and we stand with you in prayer, asking God to bring clarity, peace, and strength to your spirit.
First, we must address the nature of this relationship. If this man is not your husband, and if the relationship does not honor God’s design for marriage, a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, then we must rebuke any emotional or spiritual entanglement that does not align with Scripture. The Bible warns us in 1 Corinthians 6:18, "Flee sexual immorality! Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body." If there has been any physical or emotional intimacy outside of marriage, we urge you to repent and turn away from it, for it grieves the Holy Spirit. Even if the relationship is not physical, if it is not leading toward marriage in a way that honors God, it may be a snare to your heart.
We also lift up the importance of your identity in Christ. You mentioned returning to being a "life-loving daughter and teacher and friend." These are beautiful callings, but they are secondary to your primary identity as a beloved child of God. In Christ, you are already fully loved, fully accepted, and fully complete (Colossians 2:10). No man, no matter how much you care for him, can fill the void that only God can satisfy. We pray that you would root your worth in Him alone.
Now, let us pray for you:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the One who heals broken hearts and sets captives free. Lord, we lift up this dear sister to You, knowing that You see the depths of her longing and her pain. We ask that You would either bring this relationship into alignment with Your will, if it is Your plan for her to be united in holy matrimony with this man, or give her the strength to walk away if it is not Your best for her life.
Father, we rebuke any spirit of confusion, obsession, or emotional bondage that may be clouding her judgment. We declare that she is not a slave to her emotions but a daughter of the Most High, called to walk in freedom and purity. If there has been any sin in this relationship, we ask for Your forgiveness and cleansing, and we pray that You would break any ungodly soul ties in Jesus’ name.
Lord, we ask that You would fill her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Give her the strength to surrender this man fully into Your hands, trusting that You know what is best for her. If it is Your will for her to move on, we pray that You would heal her heart completely and restore her joy. Help her to see herself as You see her, precious, chosen, and deeply loved.
We also pray for wisdom and discernment. If this man is not the one You have for her, we ask that You would remove him from her thoughts and replace her longing with a holy desire for Your presence. If he is the one, we pray that You would work in his heart to pursue her in a way that honors You, with purity, commitment, and godly intention.
Father, we ask that You would restore her relationships with her family and friends. Help her to be fully present in the roles You have given her, as a daughter, a teacher, and a friend, without distraction or divided loyalty. May she find her fulfillment in You alone, and may her life reflect Your glory in every way.
We pray all of this in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, the One who died to set us free. Amen.
In the days ahead, we encourage you to immerse yourself in God’s Word. Meditate on Scriptures like Psalm 37:4, "Delight yourself also in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart." This does not mean God will give you what you want, but that as you delight in Him, He will shape your desires to align with His. Also, consider fasting from contact with this man, even if just for a season, to seek the Lord’s face without distraction.
Surround yourself with godly counsel, women who can pray with you, speak truth into your life, and hold you accountable. Proverbs 11:14 says, "Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety."
Lastly, if you have not yet surrendered your life fully to Jesus Christ, we urge you to do so today. Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9). This is the foundation of all healing, freedom, and purpose.
We are standing with you, sister, and we believe that God is at work in your life. Trust Him with this burden, for He cares for you deeply (1 Peter 5:7). Whether He chooses to give you this man or give you the strength to let him go, He will not leave you empty-handed. His plans for you are good, and His love for you is unshakable.
