Leaving Epypt

We have heard your prayer about leaving Egypt behind and stepping out by faith with only a suitcase and God after years of abuse and addiction, and we thank God for the courage He has given you to take this step toward freedom and purpose.

The image you used is the right one. Scripture says Christ came to preach deliverance to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, and that He led captivity captive. What you are leaving is not just a place but a bondage, and God is the one who brings His people out. Like the leper who came to Jesus and said, Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean, you can bring your whole life to Him in that same faith, trusting that all authority to cleanse and restore belongs to Him.

Faith needs a generous and vigorous soul that rises above what is seen and what is felt, and you are showing that faith as you leave what is familiar to follow where God is leading. Know that God sees the years of suffering and the struggle with addiction, and He is compassionate and able to heal. He does not heal by adding more to the desire, but by taking away the evil and convincing the heart that there is a better way in Him. As you go, hold fast to what you have attained in Christ, walk by the same rule of faith, and let Him be your head and root. If that is kept safe, even what was lost can be recovered with greater splendor in His time.

We are praying for you as you board this flight and begin this new chapter:

Father in heaven, we thank you for this life and for the desire to leave bondage behind. We ask in the name of Jesus Christ, who alone saves, that you would grant deliverance, protection on this journey, and strength for each step of faith. Wash and make clean, heal the wounds left by years of abuse, break the chains of addiction, and give recovery of sight and hope. Lead by your Spirit, provide a safe place to stay, a faithful church family, and wise counselors who can walk alongside in sobriety and healing. Keep this child of yours from returning to Egypt, and fulfill your good purpose in a life lived for you. Give daily grace to trust you, to bear losses thankfully, and to find comfort through fellowship with others who share faith in Christ. We ask this in the name of Jesus. Amen.

As soon as you arrive, connect to a local Bible believing church, share your story with a pastor you can trust, and seek ongoing support for addiction recovery and healing from abuse. If you are in danger or feel tempted to return to old patterns, reach out immediately for help. You are not forgotten, and God who has begun this work is able to keep you.

Your step of leaving what has held you captive and stepping out with only a suitcase and trust in God is a real act of faith, and God sees it. To use the picture you used, leaving Egypt is what faith does. It hears the promise of God and moves toward it, even when you cannot yet see how everything will work out.

Scripture makes it clear that we do not receive God's Spirit or His forgiveness by trying hard enough to earn it. We receive it by trusting Jesus Christ. It is a gift. You cannot deserve it by good works, and you do not have to carry the weight of your past abuse or years of addiction as payment to God. Like Abraham, righteousness is credited to you when you put your faith in Christ. Those who live by that kind of faith are counted as His children. The law cannot make you righteous because it is about works, but the one who is made right with God lives by faith.

At the same time, real faith is never just an idea in the mind. If faith is genuine it will show itself in how you live. Faith without any change or action is not living faith at all. You show what you believe by what you do, and what you do proves whether the faith is real. Choosing to walk away from destructive patterns, to leave a place of bondage, to board a plane toward a new purpose God has put before you, these are the works that come from faith. They do not create your faith, but they demonstrate it. Your faith came first, and now it is prompting obedience. That is how faith and obedience work together, as they did with Abraham when he was willing to follow God even at great cost.

Faith is the confidence in what you hope for and the assurance of what you do not yet see. It is not blind. In fact the person of faith sees more, because you are looking beyond what is visible to what God has promised. You are hoping for freedom, healing, and a purposeful life, and faith gives substance to that hope now, even before you fully possess it.

It is also important to know that walking by faith does not mean you will never face hardship, discouragement, or even defeat along the way. Scripture tells us that many who lived by faith died still trusting without having received everything that was promised in their lifetime, and others suffered greatly for their faith. Faith is not a guarantee of an easy life, a perfect body, or immediate solutions to every problem. Great people of faith have had moments when their faith faltered and they were afraid. That is part of being human. What matters is that you keep returning to Jesus and keep trusting Him. Do not let affliction or opposition move you away from your confidence in Him. That is what the enemy wants, to use hardship to draw you back.

There is a difference between a passive faith that says God could do something and an active faith that trusts He will do it and acts on that trust. Passive belief does little on its own. Active faith releases itself in obedience and expects God to work. Your decision to leave is moving from passive to active. You are not just believing God is able to deliver you, you are acting on the belief that He is delivering you now. God honors that kind of trust. Jesus often said to people, your faith has made you whole, because their faith became active and reached out to Him.

God has given you a measure of faith to believe in Jesus, and He will give you the faith you need for each step as you need it. Any healing and restoration He does in your life, including freedom from addiction and healing from years of hurt, will come to you through that faith in His grace, not through your own strength.

Keep walking in that faith. Let your daily choices reflect the new life you have in Christ. Stay close to Jesus, ask for the power of His Spirit each day, stay in His Word, and stay connected to faithful believers who will encourage you to remain steadfast. If fear rises or you feel weak, remember that lapses do not disqualify you. Bring them honestly to the Lord and ask Him to strengthen your faith again.

I am praying for you, that God will guard your faith as you travel, that He will establish you in this new place, that He will heal what has been broken, break the power of addiction by His grace, and make your life a testimony of what His mercy can do. May He give you clear direction for the purpose He has for you and keep you rooted in Jesus Christ alone, who is your righteousness, your healer, and your hope.

Thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer as you shared about leaving your Egypt by faith to board a flight to fulfill your purpose, stepping out with only one suitcase and God after enduring many years of narcissistic abuse and struggling with addiction since you were very young.

We have continued to lift you up before the Lord, asking Him to be your provider, your protector and your deliverer in this season of new beginnings. We have prayed that He would open every door for your journey, supply every need for the flight and for what lies ahead, heal your heart from the deep wounds of abuse, and break every chain of addiction, for we know that whom the Son sets free is free indeed. We have prayed Isa 43:19 over you that God is doing a new thing and making a way in the wilderness, and 2 Cor 5:17 that in Christ you are a new creation, and Psalm 147:3 that He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
