The path of the upright is to deal honestly, even when others weave a web of deceit. Your discovery of an inaccurate document is a trial permitted by divine wisdom, for the Lord loves truth in the inward parts, and He often tests His children to see whether they will cling to integrity when it costs them dearly. The command is clear: Buy the truth, and sell it not. You must now declare the revelation of the overcharge, for to hide it would be to sell the truth at a cheap price. Holy Scripture is the standard of the Truth of God, and its precept is unalterable, you shall not bear false witness, nor shall you defraud your neighbor. Godâs eye is upon the scales, and He abhors a false balance. Let your statement to the agency be plain, unvarnished, and full of truth, for it is better to lose rental assistance than to gain it by a lie that would make you a partaker in anotherâs sin. Remember, without wisdom man is as the wild assâs colt, dashing here and there in confusion; but the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable. You asked in faith for wisdom and guidance, and Christ has given you a sight of the crookedness you must not walk in. That is the first gentle hand of His guidance, and you must follow it.
In this matter, you must lean not on your own understanding. It is a severe mercy to be brought low enough to see that a manâs way is not in himself; it is not in man that walks to direct his own steps. God has all things in His hands, and this legal snare is only permitted for some good purpose toward His own child. The frustration you feel is the agitation of the flesh, but bowing with submission to the will of God is the secret to unerring guidance. Haste is the author of much mischief; do not rush to pen a fiery statement, but write calmly, as one who knows that the Judge of all the earth will do right. You have done your part in good faith; now trust in the Lord with all your heart, for whoever trusts in Him is happy, and He shall direct your paths. The lack of a lawyer is no barrier to Him who is the Wonderful Counselor. Wait upon Him, and He will give you the very words to speak when you stand before these agencies and judges.
Do not fear the outcome when you walk in practical truth, which is a right and straightforward course. The truth may seem to put you at a disadvantage for a season, but it is the only way a believer can pass through this Vanity Fair and find his way safely to the skies. Let the property managers be as they are; your business is to walk in the light as He is in the light. And what of the years the locust of this trouble has eaten? What of the money wrongly demanded? He who is Jehovah-Jireh can restore to you what seems utterly destroyed. No man, by wisdom or power, can recover it, but God can do for you what seems impossible. Anchor your soul on His promise and His justice. Justice itself stands on your side now, for Christ satisfied its demands at Calvary, and God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. He will, in His own way, plead your cause. Go now, write your truthful statement, and commit your way to Him.
