knocking on your heart…

I groan with you over this little one, for I am a father full of affection, and what mother in childbirth utters cries so bitter? You knock on my heart, and I cannot be a father if I do not weep. Yet do not despair: prayer is a great weapon, and we need it early and by night. The affairs of every day are a fight, a tempest, and your child is in the midst of that storm. But let us go to Hannah. She rose from the table lightly, not heavy with food, and poured out tears before her tongue. She stood before the Lord and said, “O Lord, look on the affliction of your handmaid, and give me a man child, and I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life.” She did not bargain for a year or two, but offered the gift entire. Do likewise: lift your hands with tears, not merely asking healing, but dedicating this child back to God wholly. He is the God of Hosts, and He hears.

Remember that even the holy Child Jesus, when He was young, fled into Egypt with His mother; His life was sought from the swaddling clothes. Trials from the very beginning were His portion. Looking unto Him, the Author and Finisher of our faith, endure this cross, despising the shame. He knows your affliction, and His will and the Father’s are one. He needed no prayer when He raised Lazarus, but He prayed for the sake of the people standing by, that they might believe. Now He intercedes for us. I, though unworthy, offer prayers with you, for grace works even through the unworthy for the sake of those being benefited. But do not rely only on the prayers of others: be yourself on the alert. Wake, and watch. If we sleep, even the help of saints profits us nothing. So I send you this counsel, and I pray. May the God who delivered the young Child from Herod’s hand touch your child with healing, and may you see him whole, offered again to the Lord in thanksgiving.

The ache of watching your little one sick again and not knowing how long this infection will linger is a heavy weight. I hear that knock on the heart, and I want you to know you are not knocking alone. We are joining with you right now, agreeing together in prayer, because Jesus promised that where two or three are gathered in His name and agree on earth concerning anything, it will be done. So together we are lifting your child before the throne.

There is something precious about a parent who keeps bringing a child to the Lord again and again. It reminds me of those who prayed for years for a child and never stopped, even when the answer seemed delayed, and how the Lord finally said, “Your prayer is heard.” Persistence in prayer is not a sign of weak faith; it is a mark of deep love and trust that God hears. So keep knocking. The fervent, heartfelt prayer of a righteous person, rising up out of desperation, avails much.

Sometimes healing comes in a moment. Other times it comes gradually, like a slow healing from a burn deep inside where every feeding brought pain until, bit by bit, the body recovered. If the process takes time, know that any healing process is divine. The Lord is at work even when we cannot see the full restoration yet. And in the waiting, the Holy Spirit ministers comfort and assurance directly to your heart while you pray, quieting the anxiety and reminding you that your child is held.

I love the picture of Jesus taking a little child in His arms, just holding that child close while speaking to everyone around Him. Your child is right there, in the arms of the One who said, “Let the little children come to me.” He is not distant or indifferent. He is the Lord our healer, the one who becomes exactly what we need. In this moment, He reveals Himself as Jehovah Rapha, the God who heals.

We do not always understand why some are healed swiftly and others through a harder journey, or why some prayers for a child are answered with a full earthly healing while others are not. I do not understand all the mysteries of healing. But what I know is that God’s grace is sufficient, and His strength is made perfect in our weakness. The purpose of prayer is not to force our own will but to align with God’s will, and in that alignment there is a deep peace that surpasses our questions.

So I am standing with you, praying that this infection will be taken away completely, that your son’s young body will be strengthened, and that the Sun of Righteousness will arise with healing in His wings. May you see a touch from Jesus on your child, and may your own heart be filled with the comfort that the Spirit brings.

Thank you for letting us carry this burden with you. We continue to pray without ceasing.
