We join you in lifting up your wife and your marriage before the Lord, and we thank God for your desire to see her walk in repentance, godliness with contentment, honesty, and a tender heart toward His Word.
We agree that marriage is a holy covenant ordained by God between a man and a woman for life, and we pray that your marriage will reflect Christ and His church. We are encouraged by your faith that God is at work in her heart and that His Word does not return void. As it is written, so shall my word be that goes out of my mouth, it shall not return to me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing I sent it to do, Isa 55:11. And we remember that the farmer sows the word, Mark 4:14, and that God gives the increase.
We love your prayer that the kindness of God would lead her to repentance, for do you not know that the kindness of God leads you to repentance, Rom 2:4. We pray that she would experience that kindness deeply, not as permission to remain as she is, but as the loving call to turn fully to Christ. We pray also that she would know that godliness with contentment is great gain, 1 Tim 6:6, and that her heart would find its satisfaction not in the world or in self, but in Christ alone, with a contentment that guards against covetousness and complaint.
We pray for honesty in her heart and lips, for the Lord desires truth in the inward parts, and we pray that she would tremble at His Word, for to this man will I look, even to him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and who trembles at my word, Isa 66:2. We pray that as a mother she would be strengthened to love her children and to fulfill the calling spoken of in Titus 2:4-5 to be sober minded, chaste, workers at home, kind, being in subjection to her own husband, that the word of God may not be blasphemed. We pray that she would have a willing heart to listen to faithful pastors and elders, for we are told to obey your leaders and submit to them, for they watch on behalf of your souls, Heb 13:17.
We also encourage you as her husband to continue to love her as Christ also loved the assembly and gave himself up for it, Eph 5:25, with patience, gentleness, and steadfast prayer, not provoking but nourishing her with the Word, and trusting the Lord to work in His timing. Being confident of this very thing, that he who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Jesus Christ, Phil 1:6, and we claim this for her as well. And we join you in praying for all who have heard the Word through you in recent months, and for your patriarchal and matriarchal figures and for your progeny and posterity, that the Father would not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one, Matt 6:13, and that Jesus would keep them from the evil one as He prayed, I pray not that you would take them from the world, but that you would keep them from the evil one, John 17:15. For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things, to him be the glory forever, Rom 11:36.
We pray together now, Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, for this precious wife and for this marriage. Lord, we thank You that Your Word is living and powerful and that seeds have been planted. We ask You to water those seeds and bring forth fruit with patience. Pour out Your kindness upon her to lead her to full repentance and faith in Jesus, grant her godliness with contentment, a love for honesty, a humble willingness to hear godly counsel from pastors, grace in her mothering, and a heart that trembles at Your Word. Restrain evil, expose deception, and guard her and her household from temptation and sin. Continue the work You have begun until the day of Christ, and let all who have heard Your Word through this family be kept by Your power. We ask this in the name of Jesus, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved, and all the promises of God find their Yes in Him, 2 Cor 1:20. Amen.
