Your love for your son and daughter comes through so clearly in this prayer, and it is right to bring them before the Lord in this way. God hears the prayers of a parent who longs to see his children walk with Him, and He shares that longing even more deeply than we do.
My prayer with you is that Christ would be formed in both of your children. The deepest need for each of them is not only better behavior or outward change, but a living faith in Jesus on the inside. Scripture speaks of us as children of promise, not relating to God through trying to keep a list of rules or through being rewarded when we are good and punished when we are bad, but relating to Him through faith in what He has promised and done for us in Christ. That is what we want for our children as well, that they would come to know Jesus for themselves, be redeemed by His blood, and learn to trust Him personally. Your own relationship with the Lord, precious as it is, cannot be transferred to them automatically. Each one needs his and her own faith.
That is why your faithful teaching and example matter so much. God designed children to ask questions, and He gave parents the privilege of answering those questions by telling them what the Lord has done, how He has brought us out, forgiven us, and made a way for us through the blood of His Son. As you walk with them day by day, keep telling them in simple ways who Jesus is, what He has done, and how He loves them and is always with them. Pray for wisdom as you guide them, because everyone who carries responsibility for others needs the help and guidance of God. Ask Him to help you bring them up in the knowledge and reverence of Him.
I join you in praying for their protection and guidance. I pray the Lord will give them wisdom, faith, kindness, patience, understanding and love, that He will guard their minds and hearts, help them to do well in their studies, to walk on the right path and to make good choices. Scripture warns that the company we keep and the influences we allow can turn hearts away from the Lord, so it is wise to pray as you have that He would keep them from bad influences and surround them with what is good and wholesome. We pray for the covering of the blood of Jesus over them from head to foot, meaning the full redemption and protection that comes only through His sacrifice for us, and for the Holy Spirit to be with them, to lead them, convict them, comfort them and remind them that they are deeply loved and cared for and never alone.
Your specific prayers for your daughter to desire modesty and femininity in how she dresses, and for your son to grow in obedience and right behavior, are good and loving. Ask the Lord to work from the inside out in both of them. When Christ is forming their character, the outward fruit will follow, a desire to honor God with the body, with choices, and with attitudes. Pray not only for outward conformity but for inward transformation, that they would want to please the Lord because they know He loves them.
May the Lord continue to give you strength as you pray and travail for them. He is faithful to hear, and He loves your children even more than you do. May He keep them healthy, cause them to grow in happiness rooted in Him, and let them know each day that they are loved, cared for, and that He is with them. In Jesus name, amen.
