We hear your heartfelt plea for your children, and we join with you in lifting them up before the throne of grace. Your desire for their protection, guidance, and growth in the Lord is deeply rooted in a parent’s love, a love that reflects God’s own heart for His children. Let us stand together in prayer and biblical truth as we intercede for them.

First, we must address the foundation of our prayers. While your request invokes the name of Jesus at the end, we must emphasize that it is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father. There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). Jesus Himself declared, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6 WEB). If your children, or any of us, do not know Jesus as Lord and Savior, their greatest need is to repent of sin and place their faith in Him. Salvation is not merely a blessing to ask for; it is the doorway to eternal life. We pray that if they have not yet surrendered their lives to Christ, the Holy Spirit would draw them with conviction and lead them to true repentance and faith.

Now, let us pray specifically for your daughter and son:

Heavenly Father, we come before You as a family of believers, lifting up these precious children to Your care. Lord, You have said that children are a heritage from You (Psalm 127:3), and we ask that You would watch over them with Your everlasting love. Cover them with the blood of Jesus from the top of their heads to the soles of their feet, shielding them from all evil, harm, and temptation. Let no weapon formed against them prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and let Your angels encamp around them for protection (Psalm 91:11).

For your daughter, Father, we pray that You would soften her heart and draw her closer to You. You have called us to modesty, not just in dress, but in spirit (1 Timothy 2:9). Help her to understand that true beauty comes from a gentle and quiet spirit, which is precious in Your sight (1 Peter 3:3-4). If she has been influenced by worldly standards, convict her gently and lead her to embrace godly femininity. May she grow in wisdom, purity, and grace, becoming a young woman who honors You in all she does.

For your son, Lord, we ask that You would mold his character and strengthen his communication. Proverbs 22:6 tells us to "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." Father, instill in him a heart of respect, kindness, and self-control. Help him to speak with wisdom and to listen with understanding. May he grow into a man of integrity, walking in the light of Your truth and resisting the temptations of this world.

We also pray for their academic lives. Lord, grant them focus, discipline, and a hunger for knowledge that glorifies You. May they excel not for their own pride, but as a testimony to Your faithfulness. Give them teachers and mentors who will point them to You and encourage their spiritual growth.

Above all, Father, we ask that Your Holy Spirit would be their constant Companion. May they never walk alone but always sense Your presence guiding them. Fill them with wisdom, faith, patience, and love. Let them grow into godly adults who love You with all their heart, soul, mind, and strength (Mark 12:30). Protect their minds from the lies of the enemy, and let them stand firm in the truth of Your Word.

We rebuke any spirit of rebellion, worldliness, or deception that may be influencing them. We declare that they are children of the Most High God, set apart for His purposes. We break every generational curse and every ungodly influence in Jesus’ name. May they walk in the freedom and victory that Christ has already won for them on the cross.

Lord, we also lift up this parent to You. Parenting is a sacred responsibility, and we ask that You would give them wisdom, patience, and strength. Help them to model Christ-like love, discipline, and grace. May their home be a place of peace, prayer, and godly instruction. Equip them to lead their children with humility and faith, trusting in Your promises.

We thank You, Father, for hearing our prayers. We trust in Your perfect will for these children and for their future. May they grow to know You deeply, to love You passionately, and to serve You wholeheartedly all the days of their lives. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

To the parent who shared this request: Your love for your children is evident, and we encourage you to continue praying for them daily, just as Scripture instructs us to "pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17). You do not have to carry the burden of their outcome; the Shepherd is the one who leaves the ninety-nine to go after the one. Your part is the faithful, loving voice in their lives, and we can see you are already doing that. As you watch them grow, look for the small, quiet signs of God’s hand, a moment of unexpected kindness, a shift in attitude, a good choice. Those are ebenezers, stones of help, and they will build your own faith as you wait.

We pray with you now: Lord Jesus, cover this family. We ask for Your hand to be on these children, protecting them from evil and keeping their feet on steady ground. Give them wisdom and a growing love for You. We ask for a change in this daughter, not just outward, but a deep, genuine confidence in who You made her to be. We ask for better communication and maturity in this son. Hold their mother’s heart steady, and let her feel Your nearness as she trusts them into Your care. In Your strong name, Jesus, amen.

The very best prayer you can pray for your own protection is, "Teach me to do Your will." This prayer was suggested by the perplexity of the Psalmist's mind, and it rises now from a parent's heart that truly sees the need for guidance beyond its own wisdom. He was a doctor of divinity and I introduced him to the children, in a somewhat merry manner, by telling them that he knew everything, and a few things beside; but when he began to speak, he said, "My dear Children, I do not know everything, but I will tell you one thing that I do know, I know that I do not know much." So it is with us. We are not fit to take care of ourselves, nor to guide these little ones alone. Haste, too, is the author of a great deal of mischief in human life. You cry out for their every step, and that is well, for bowing with submission to the will of God, by that very fact we are furnished with unerring guidance.

He puts himself to school with God alone. And there is the prayer, "Teach me to do Your will; for You are my God." Brothers and Sisters, you must have this teaching, or else you will never do God's will. The outside world will call it a mere Sunday school, but to bring to Christ the children of godly parents is a thing worthy of anyone's ambition. That prayer for covering them with the blood of Jesus, that longing to see your daughter change her dress and become modest, that desire for your son's communication and behavior to improve, these are parts of doing His will. Where the Bible leads, you are bound to follow and following its guidance you shall not walk in darkness. Believe me, your children need the Spirit of God to give them new hearts and right spirits or else they will go astray as other children do.

The Lord has dealt with us, in other respects as children, as, for instance, in not chiding us for our many mistakes. It requires a patient disposition to deal with such grownup children, for what you could bear from children, who are children in years, you cannot so well endure from those who, though they have reached the age of maturity, have not reached the age of discretion, and seem as if they never would. Now, why is it that mothers take so much pains in teaching their children to walk? I suppose the reason is, because they are their own offspring. And the reason why the Lord has been so patient with us, and will be so still, is because we are his children, still his children, still, his children! He declares that he hates putting away. Oh! I have found it such a blessed thing, in my own experience, to plead before God that I am his child. Plead therefore for your daughter and son as His children still, that He might guard them and gently lead them.

The next word is guard the children. Spiritual teachers of the noblest order need to know what the children do on ordinary days. Good Sunday school teachers try to keep the children out of sin and out of harm's way on week days as well as on Sundays. So with your prayer, you ask that no evil harm come to them, and this protection is perpetual as well as personal. You will always need Divine and angelic keeping, for God would not have charged His angels to keep His people in all their ways if they did not need protection in all their ways. It is in such ways that angelic protection will be afforded to us, not by our own scheming, but by childlike trust in Providential guidance. Happy is that man who always waits upon God to know what he shall do, who asks the Lord to always guide him and who dares not lean upon his own understanding.

There is a remarkable relationship here, for True Believers are as like their Lord as little children are like their father. God does not sanctify children into men, but He sanctifies children in their own childlike way. You are teaching the children, but you are also teaching the fathers and the mothers, and through them the Word of God is entering where none of us can take it. That prayer for them to grow to be good, normal, happy, healthy adults is a right one, for He speaks with great delight, "Behold, I and the children." He is evidently gratified with them. The sight of them gives Him content. We readily see anything that is good in our children. He says, "Behold, I and the children whom You have given Me." The Lord acknowledges His children. Sometimes they are ashamed to acknowledge Him and He might always be ashamed to claim them, but He never is. He speaks of them without hesitation. It is, "I and the children." Let this be your united hope.

How fitting it is that you bring your children before the Lord with such fervent cries! For prayer is the great safeguard of the household, and the tender age of your son and daughter is the very time to store up holy instruction. What children hear is impressed like a seal on wax. If from the very portals of their life you lead them away from iniquity and guide them by the hand to the road of virtue, they will be fixed in a habit that will not easily change. Do not only pray, but also act: seek out companions for them, not the rich or the flattering, but men poor in spirit and free from vice, who can be as joint fathers, admonishing and helping you in your care. Let these godly friends track out the stranger, clothe the naked, and teach your children by example to do the same. In this way you engage in a spiritual traffic that yields profit to their souls.

You ask for protection and guidance, covering them with the precious blood of Jesus. This is a right and merciful plea, for the prayer of the faithful, offered with humility, moves the heart of God. Even the three children in the furnace cried out, "We have sinned," and God delivered them. Teach your children this lowliness of mind; let them learn to cry for mercy like the blind men who would not be silenced. Their simple faith can become a mighty intercession, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these. And if you feel the burden of raising them alone, take courage: she who trusts in God and continues in prayer is never desolate, for the Lord Himself fills up every need.

Do you desire your daughter to dress with modesty and your son to speak with grace? These outward things will follow if the inward soul is formed by constant teaching and the peace of Christ. Pray also for peace at all times in your home, for nothing so conduces to their wellbeing as to be peaceable and free from strife. When they are rooted in the love of God, the Holy Spirit will abide with them, and they will grow into that which you ask: good, happy, and healthy, abounding in wisdom and faith and patience and the salvation of their souls.

Remember that your prayers are not to instruct an unwilling God. Our Lord Himself gave thanks before Lazarus came forth, not because He needed to pray, but to show that His will is one with the Father and to strengthen the faith of those standing by. So your prayers align your heart with His unceasing care. He hears you always. Continue then in prayer and teaching, as the early believers did after partaking of the holy mysteries. Do not grow weary, for He who elected your children to bear His image will bring to completion the good work He has begun.

You are pouring out your heart for your children before the Lord, and that is a beautiful and powerful thing. The very act of bringing them before the throne of grace shows that you understand they are not just yours; they are entrusted to you by God Himself. Just as Jacob answered Esau, “These are the children whom God has graciously given to your servant,” every son and daughter is a gift from His hand. And it is right to do exactly what you are doing: to ask for His covering, His hand to guide them, and for no evil to come near.

I think of how the blood of the Passover lamb marked the doors of the Israelites and shielded their children from destruction. When you pray that the blood of Jesus cover your children from the top of their heads to the bottom of their feet, you are placing them under the ultimate protection that only the Son of God can provide. That covering is not just about physical safety; it is a spiritual shield against the darkness that wants to pull them away from truth.

Your longing for your daughter to change the way she dresses and to embrace a more fitting manner, and for your son’s communication and behavior to improve, reflects a deeper desire for them to walk in the light. It reminds me of the travail Paul spoke of, travailing in prayer until Christ is formed in someone. You are in that kind of labor of intercession, and God sees it. He knows the desires of your heart because He put them there. Sometimes the answer seems slow, like Hannah’s wait for a son, because God is aligning our hearts fully with His purposes. When she finally surrendered, “Lord, if you will give me a son, I will give him back to you,” God moved. Continue to bring them before Him, trusting that He loves them even more than you do.

Pray for wisdom and faith and patience, not just for them, but for yourself as you raise them. The prayer of a righteous person, made effective by the Spirit, truly does accomplish much. I have seen so many little ones who were once just prayers and tears, now healthy and growing in the Lord. God does indeed bless in response to the cries of His people.

As you pray for them to do well in school and to grow into good, normal, happy, and healthy adults, remember that the foundation of all true happiness is in knowing the Son. For “he that acknowledges the Son has the Father also.” You are asking that the Holy Spirit be with them every step. That is the best petition of all, because when the Spirit of Christ dwells in them, they become children of promise, not just children of the flesh.

Jesus Himself welcomed children and wanted them brought to Him for blessing. Your prayer is bringing them right to Jesus. Keep doing it. Do not grow weary. Ask that they would not only be kept from trouble but that they would love and care for others as children of the Lord. Pray that their lives would honor the Father and the Son.

The Lord hears this prayer. He sees every step they take, and He knows the future. May He give you the peace that passes understanding as you trust them into His hands. Keep believing for their salvation, for their growth in grace, and for the joy of seeing them walk in truth.
