Beloved of All
Your prayer reaches the heart of God even in these few simple words, and he hears the cry for help for your sister and for all people on earth. When words are few and the need feels too great to express, that groaning within you is not lost. Scripture teaches that the Holy Spirit himself helps us in our weakness and intercedes for us when we do not know how to pray as we should. He searches the heart and prays according to the will of God with deep yearnings that go beyond words, and Jesus himself lives to intercede for us. You are not praying alone.
You can rest on this, that the Lord of all the earth will do what is right. He is never unjust in any of his actions. At the same time he is merciful. He does not deal with us only as we deserve, but shows compassion and leads us out by his mercy. That is our hope for the world and for those we love. Even when families and societies around us are corrupt and broken, God remains fair and he remains kind, and he is able to deliver.
When you cry out, who will help me, who will deliver us, the answer is not found in trying harder or finding a new formula for self improvement. The answer is outside of ourselves. Thanks be to God that through Jesus Christ we have victory and help. He is the one who comes alongside to help, the helper who stays with us. His promise has always been, I will be with you, when he calls us to walk with him. You can lean on that promise now for yourself and for your sister.
God also gives us a family that is deeper than blood alone. Jesus said that whoever does the will of his Father in heaven is his brother and sister and mother. When we belong to Jesus we are brought into the family of God, where the bonds are close and lasting. This does not replace love for your own sister, but it means your love for her can now be expressed through prayer and through words that build up and give hope. The tongue has great power to either tear down or to encourage and strengthen, and God calls us to use it to bless and to comfort. As you pray for your sister, continue to speak words of encouragement and peace over her, sowing peace in the hope of reaping righteousness.
I do not have easy answers for every detail of how God will work in your sister's life or in the world, and in our own lives we often wonder whether something is from God or from ourselves. The measure is always his Word. Keep bringing everything before him in prayer, trusting that his Spirit will shape your prayers according to his will, and trusting that his justice and his mercy will not fail.
May the Lord hear your cry for your sister and for all people. May he show her his mercy and draw her close to Jesus, keep her and guide her, and help her to walk in his truth. May he help you to know his presence with you, to feel his help coming alongside you, and to have peace as you trust him. In Jesus name, amen.
