THE WEDDING: Water into wine
ST. JOHN
2 1And on the third day, a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus' mother was there, 2and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3When the wine was gone, Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no more wine." 4"Dear woman, why do you involve me?" Jesus replied, "My time has not yet come." 5His mother said to the servants, "Do whatever he tells you." 6Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. 7Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim. 8Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet." 9They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10and said, "Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now." 11This, the first of his miraculous signs, Jesus performed in Cana of Galilee. He thus revealed his glory, and his disciples put their faith in him.
It was around this hour, on the third day of February, 2018, God allowed me to witness my daughter’s wedding. And, what beautiful ceremony it was. My gratitude goes out to the staff of Ashton Gardens, North Houston: Thank you Erica, for your expertise in coordinating a flawless event. To everyone, from the most preciously, beautiful and efficient flower girl to the most “handsomest” bride grooms, and every guest and well-wisher in attendance: Thank you, may God bless you all. Special prayers and thank you to (my surrogate daughters) the “Lovely Lady Butterflies,” of Theta Nu Xi - University of Houston Chapter, Go COOGS!: Thank you for standing up for sisterhood – YOU ROCK! (do people still say that?). I’m looking forward to each of your nuptials.
To My Daughter and New Son:
And the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make for him a help meet. Therefore, shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, in gentleness and in quietness, as it is pleasing in the Lord’s sight. Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them. Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth. Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to God’s Word, giving honor and respect unto them, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.”
GOD BLESS THIS UNION
Word of God. Thanks be to God.
Commentary: One of the best parts of the wedding, for me, was, the weather – IT RAINED! Some people say it’s a sign of good luck, but to me, it signifies God’s favor: Jesus’ first miracle comes to mind, being that it was also, the first of several miracles, that he would perform, involving water. None of the “coincidences” surrounding that day escaped me: date, weather, or event. There was even a point during the reception when I requested a glass of wine, but was informed that the bar had been closed, I asked for it to be reopened, and it was (I had to smile about that, as I drank a freshly-filled glass of Cabernet). In the biblical wedding, Jesus kept the party going, or the blessings flowing, however you want to look at it, by turning a few pots of water into wine, what a blessing for those guests in attendance at that reception. I can only imagine the multitude of blessings that await those who were in attendance, in the midst of the water that rained down from the heavens on last Saturday. I’m just saying. I think I’ll just go ahead and praise Him in advance. THANK YOU LORD!!!
CONGRATULATIONS
