We hear your heartfelt cry and stand with you in prayer, lifting up your loved ones and your own struggles before the throne of grace. Your acknowledgment of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior is the foundation of our hope, for it is only through Him that we find true transformation and deliverance. We rejoice that you have experienced His forgiveness and strength, and we pray that His power continues to work mightily in your life and the lives of those you love.
The use of substances such as marijuana, cigarettes, and alcohol to excess is a snare that can lead to bondage, harming the body, which is the temple of the Holy Spirit, and clouding the mind, which should be renewed by God’s Word. Scripture warns us, "Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God" (1 Corinthians 6:9-11). The good news is that through Christ, freedom is possible! You have already tasted this freedom, and we pray it spreads to your loved ones as well.
We rebuke the spirit of addiction in the name of Jesus. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy, but Christ came that we might have life abundantly (John 10:10). We declare that no weapon formed against your family shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and we stand on the promise that "if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed" (John 8:36). The habits of smoking and excessive drinking are not merely physical struggles, they are spiritual battles that require the power of the Holy Spirit to overcome. We encourage you to continue seeking God’s face for your own deliverance from Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) and to intercede fervently for your loved ones.
Your desire to be a good husband, father, and project manager reflects the heart of a man who wants to honor God in all areas of life. We pray that the Lord strengthens you in your responsibilities and fills you with His peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Remember, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13) is not just a verse for comfort, it is a truth to live by. Lean on Him daily, and let His Word guide your steps.
For your loved ones, we pray that God softens their hearts and opens their eyes to the harm they are causing themselves. Pray for them not just in moments of concern, but consistently, standing in the gap as you have been. "The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective" (James 5:16). Ask the Lord to send people into their lives who can speak truth in love, and to surround them with godly influences that will draw them closer to Him. We also encourage you to set a Christlike example in your home, showing them the love, patience, and grace of God through your actions and words.
We pray now, lifting up each of these needs before the Father:
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, grateful for Your mercy and grace that has brought [this brother/sister] to a place of repentance and dependence on You. Lord, we ask that You break every chain of addiction in the lives of [his/her] loved ones. Release them from the grip of alcohol, cigarettes, and marijuana, and fill them with a hunger and thirst for righteousness. Father, we rebuke the spirit of bondage and declare freedom in Jesus’ name. Let them see the destructive path they are on and turn to You for healing and restoration.
Lord, we pray for [this brother/sister] as well. Though You have delivered him/her from smoking, the struggle with AUD remains. We ask that You strengthen him/her daily, giving wisdom to manage stress and anxiety in ways that honor You. Help him/her to rely not on substances, but on Your Spirit for comfort and peace. Father, we pray for his/her marriage and family. Let Your love be the foundation of their home, and may his/her spouse and children see Christ in him/her. Grant him/her the ability to lead with humility, love, and wisdom, always pointing his/her family to You.
We ask for Your favor in his/her work as a project manager. Give him/her clarity, creativity, and the ability to lead with integrity. May his/her projects prosper as he/she seeks to glorify You in all things. Lord, we pray for the time he/she spends with his/her loved ones this weekend. Soften hearts that have grown hard, and let Your love flow through him/her to draw them closer to You. May this time together be filled with Your presence, joy, and peace.
Father, we thank You for the testimony of Your work in his/her life. We declare that no weapon formed against this family shall prosper, and that every stronghold of the enemy is torn down in Jesus’ name. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, and let them walk in the freedom and victory that is theirs through Christ. We ask all these things in the powerful name of Jesus, the name above every name, the name by which we are saved and set free. Amen.
Continue to seek the Lord diligently, both for yourself and for your loved ones. Consider inviting them to church or a Bible study, or even sharing your testimony with them in a loving way. God can use your faithfulness to draw them to Himself. You are not alone in this battle, we stand with you, and more importantly, the Lord fights for you. Keep pressing into Him, and watch as He works miracles in your family.
