Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your prayer shows honesty and weariness, and God hears those who come to Him truthfully even when they feel tired and defeated. You have named your struggle with alcohol openly before Him, and that openness is the right place to begin.

Scripture teaches that blessed are those whose sins are forgiven and covered, not because of our own work but because of grace through Jesus Christ alone. Forgiveness is real and full for those who turn to Him, but it is received as we honestly acknowledge what we have done. It helps to tell God your offenses in particular, not in general only, so you can see the greatness of His mercy and become truly grateful to Him. You have already begun to do this by confessing that you are drinking even as you pray, and by asking to be a better husband, father, and worker. God invites you to bring that confession to Him through Christ and to turn away from the sin you confess.

Part of turning away means understanding how this kind of desire works. It is not stopped by adding more to it, but by taking away what feeds it. An unreasonable desire is not quieted by giving it more, but by convincing the mind that it must be put aside and by removing the occasion for it. In the same way, the love for drink can act like a cloud over clear eyes and blind us, so that we cannot see clearly what is good for ourselves, for our wife, for our children, and for our work. Recovery of sight comes when we learn how we were blinded and then take practical steps to remove what blinds us.

That means if you are lying in bed drinking while you pray, the next faithful step is to put the drink away, pour it out, and not keep it within reach. Do not trust yourself to manage it while it remains in your hand. Seek help quickly and concretely. Talk to your pastor, confess to a trusted mature believer who can hold you accountable, and seek medical help for alcohol use. Many need both spiritual and medical support to become sober safely. Bring your wife into this honesty as you are able, and let your church family know you need support. Your desire to be a better husband, father, and worker is good, and God trains us in gentleness and faithfulness as we walk in His ways day by day.

I will pray for you and your family as you have asked, but not that God would bless the drinking itself. Instead I pray that He would deliver you from it.

Heavenly Father, have mercy on this man through Jesus Christ Your Son. Forgive his sins as he confesses them and cleanse him. Take away the desire for alcohol and give him strength to remove it from his life and to walk in sobriety. Help him to care well for his wife, to love her faithfully, and to be a better husband, father, and worker. Give wisdom and help to his adult son who also struggles with alcohol, and draw him also to repentance and healing. Watch over his adult daughter in her marriage and pregnancy, strengthen that marriage according to Your design, and grant health and grace in the months ahead. Care for the needs of his home, including the flower he tends, and give him strength and clarity to do his work well and to provide as You enable him. Teach him to bear hardships with thankfulness and to trust Your provision whether You restore what has been lost or give greater reward in another way. Keep his confidence firm in Christ and help him to hold fast what he has in Him. Amen.

Continue to go to God in prayer, stay close to His Word, stay connected to His people, and take those daily steps of putting away what harms you. If you fall again, do not hide, but confess quickly, get up, and seek help again. God is able to help you live soberly and faithfully one day at a time, and to make you the husband, father, and worker you long to be for His glory.
