Delayed justice does not mean sin is safe so you must turn from it now.
A Bloody Monster
The monster of drunkenness destroys lives and families, demanding we reject it to protect our homes and future.
High License the Monopoly of Abomination
High license makes alcohol respectable and dangerous, so reject any compromise with evil.
Your prayer has been heard, and thank you for speaking so honestly about where you are. I hear how tired you are, how heavy the drinking has become, how the accident last week and the call you need to make today and the weight of many years with your wife and with your employer have left you feeling like giving up. God sees you in that bed, in that weariness, and He has not turned away.

Please do not despair, even when you feel pressed on every side. The enemy never stops hoping for our ruin, and it would be a great condemnation if he holds on to that hope while we let go of hope in God. As long as we are alive and it is still called Today, there is hope. God has shown His will to save and not to destroy by giving His own Son for us, and giving Him to death for us. If He did not spare His Son to rescue you when you were lost, how will He not give you what you need for your salvation now. That is why hope can still live, even when you feel you have nothing else to bring to Him except trust.

I want to exhort you gently, as one who needs comfort and support in affliction, not harshness. Staying in bed to drink for the rest of the day will not bring the hug and the peace you are asking God for. It will deepen the tiredness and the shame and make the calls and the relationships harder. Patience in trial, even small steps of obedience, works perseverance, and perseverance works hope. So I encourage you, by God’s help, to take one small step today. Get up, wash your face, pour out what is in the house, and pray out loud to Jesus Christ who alone saves. Call one trusted person today, your wife, a pastor, a faithful friend, a doctor or counselor, and tell them exactly what you told us. If withdrawal is a risk for you, please seek medical help right away and do not try to face it alone.

For the call to the insurance company, do it today while it is still Today. Tell the truth simply and clearly about the accident. Honesty before God and before others, even when it is hard, is part of how God restores us and how trust is rebuilt.

For your marriage and your work, both long covenants of many years, God honors faithfulness. A lifelong covenant between husband and wife is a gift to protect, not to abandon when we are weary. The best way to maintain those relationships now is to turn toward them, not away. Tell your wife you are struggling and that you want help to stop drinking. Tell your employer the truth about needing help, as you are able. Let them see you reaching for help rather than hiding. That humility, with God’s help, opens the door for grace to work.

You asked God to hug you and tell you it is going to be okay. Know this, God draws near to the weary who call on Him through Jesus. He has not promised that every circumstance will feel okay at once, but He has promised that He will not forsake those who trust Him, and that His love, shown at the cross, is stronger than your past and your present struggle. You are not beyond His reach.

I am praying for you today that God will lift you up, give you strength to not drink today, give you clarity and calm for the phone call, soften and guard your marriage, and give you favor and honesty in your workplace. I pray you will taste His comfort and know you are not alone.

If you have a local church, please reach out to a pastor there today. If you do not have support for alcohol use, please contact your doctor, a counselor, or a trusted recovery group in your area, and if you ever feel you might harm yourself, please call a trusted person right away or call or text 988 in the United States and Canada.

You did the right thing to reach out. Hold fast to hope. Today is still a day to turn to Christ and to take the next step.
