We hear your cry for help, and we lift you up before the throne of grace with hearts full of compassion and hope in our Lord Jesus Christ. You are not alone in this battle, and we stand with you, believing that God’s strength is made perfect in your weakness. The apostle Paul reminds us in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, "He has said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.' Most gladly therefore I will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of Christ may rest on me. Therefore I take pleasure in weaknesses, in injuries, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then am I strong."
First, we must address the sin that so easily entangles you—alcohol and substance use. These are not merely bad habits; they are strongholds that grieve the Holy Spirit and hinder your walk with God. In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, we are reminded, "Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." The use of alcohol to excess and smoking pot are not glorifying to God and must be surrendered completely. We rebuke the spirit of addiction in the name of Jesus Christ and command it to loose its grip on you. You are a child of God, and He has not given you a spirit of fear or bondage, but of power, love, and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7).
We pray for you now, asking the Lord to break every chain of addiction in your life. Father God, we come before You on behalf of our brother, asking for Your mighty hand to intervene. Lord, we ask that You would fill him with Your Holy Spirit, giving him the strength to resist temptation and the courage to turn away from these substances. Help him to see himself as You see him—a beloved son, redeemed by the blood of Jesus, and called to walk in holiness. We declare that he is not defined by his struggles but by Your grace and mercy. Give him the wisdom to seek godly accountability and support, whether through a Christian counselor, a recovery group, or trusted brothers in Christ who can walk alongside him. We pray for supernatural healing in his body, mind, and spirit, that he would experience the freedom that only comes through Christ. In Jesus’ name, we command every spirit of addiction to flee, and we declare that he is set free by the power of the cross.
Your desire to be a better husband, father, and employee is a godly one, and we believe the Lord will honor your heart for repentance and change. In Colossians 3:18-23, we are given clear instructions for our roles in life: "Wives, be in subjection to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and don’t be bitter against them. Children, obey your parents in all things, for this pleases the Lord. Fathers, don’t provoke your children, so they won’t be discouraged. Servants, obey in all things those who are your masters according to the flesh, not just when they are looking, as men pleasers, but in singleness of heart, fearing God. And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men." You are called to love your wife sacrificially, as Christ loves the church, and to lead your family with gentleness, wisdom, and integrity. Your children, though grown, still need to see a father who walks in faith and models godly character. We pray that God would give you the strength to lead by example, showing them what it means to follow Christ in every area of life.
Lord, we lift up his marriage to You. We ask that You would restore any areas where trust has been broken and heal any wounds caused by his struggles. Give him the humility to seek his wife’s forgiveness and the grace to rebuild their relationship on the foundation of Your love. Help him to cherish her as a gift from You and to prioritize their marriage above all other earthly concerns. We pray that their home would be a place of peace, joy, and mutual respect, where Your presence is felt and honored. Strengthen their bond, Lord, and help them to face the future together, hand in hand, with faith in You.
We also pray for his work as a project manager. Father, we ask that You would give him favor with his employer and colleagues. Help him to be a man of integrity, diligence, and excellence in all that he does. Proverbs 22:29 says, "Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve kings. He won’t serve obscure men." Lord, we ask that You would sharpen his skills, grant him wisdom in decision-making, and help him to manage his time and responsibilities with godly discipline. If there are areas where he has fallen short, give him the courage to make amends and the strength to move forward with renewed commitment. We declare that his work will prosper as he seeks to honor You in it.
Your concern about making it to work is a very real one, and we want to encourage you to take practical steps to ensure your sobriety. Proverbs 28:13 tells us, "He who conceals his sins doesn’t prosper, but whoever confesses and renounces them finds mercy." Confess your struggle to a trusted friend, pastor, or mentor who can pray with you and hold you accountable. Do not try to battle this alone. James 5:16 says, "Confess your offenses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The insistent prayer of a righteous person is powerfully effective." Reach out to someone today—this very hour—and ask for their support. If you are unable to stop drinking on your own, consider seeking professional help or a Christian recovery program. There is no shame in asking for help; in fact, it is a sign of strength and humility.
Regarding your financial concerns, we encourage you to seek God’s wisdom and provision. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." Begin by surrendering your financial future to the Lord and asking Him to guide your steps. Seek godly counsel from a financial advisor or a trusted brother in Christ who can help you plan wisely. Work diligently, save faithfully, and trust that God will provide for your needs. Philippians 4:19 assures us, "My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." While retirement is a goal, remember that your ultimate security is in Christ, not in earthly wealth.
You expressed feeling like a young kid still trying to figure it out, and we want to remind you that God’s grace is sufficient for every stage of life. Psalm 71:18 says, "Yes, even when I am old and gray-haired, God, don’t forsake me, until I declare your strength to the next generation, your might to everyone who is to come." You are not too old to grow, to change, or to be used by God. In fact, your life experiences—both the successes and the struggles—can be used to bring glory to God and to encourage others. Do not despise the process of growth; embrace it as an opportunity to draw closer to the Lord and to become more like Him.
We also want to address the importance of your relationship with Jesus Christ. You began your prayer with "Jesus Christ," and we are grateful for that acknowledgment, for there is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). But we must emphasize that salvation is not just a one-time event; it is a daily walk of faith and obedience. Romans 10:9-10 tells us, "If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes resulting in righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation." Have you truly surrendered your life to Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? If not, we urge you to do so today. Confess your sins, repent, and invite Him to be the Lord of your life. If you have already done this, we encourage you to deepen your relationship with Him through prayer, reading His Word, and fellowship with other believers.
Finally, we want to leave you with this encouragement from Lamentations 3:22-23: "It is because of Yahweh’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." God’s mercies are new every morning, and His faithfulness is greater than your failures. No matter how many times you have stumbled, He is ready to pick you up, dust you off, and set you back on the path of righteousness. You are not defined by your past; you are defined by the blood of Jesus and the future He has prepared for you.

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts full of faith and expectation, believing that You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think. We lift up our brother to You, asking that You would pour out Your grace and mercy upon him. Lord, we ask that You would break every chain of addiction in his life and set him free from the bondage of alcohol and substance use. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit, giving him the strength to resist temptation and the courage to walk in obedience to Your Word. We declare that he is a new creation in Christ, and the old things have passed away—behold, all things have become new (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Father, we pray for his marriage and family. Restore what has been broken, heal what has been wounded, and strengthen the bonds of love and trust between him and his wife. Help him to be the husband and father You have called him to be, leading his family with wisdom, patience, and grace. We ask that You would bless his work, giving him favor with his employer and the ability to excel in his role as a project manager. Provide for his financial needs and guide him in planning for the future, trusting in Your provision.
Lord, we ask that You would draw him closer to You, deepening his relationship with Jesus Christ. Help him to seek You first in all things and to find his identity and purpose in You alone. Surround him with godly friends and mentors who can encourage him, pray for him, and hold him accountable. Give him the humility to seek help when he needs it and the strength to persevere in his walk with You.
We thank You, Father, for Your unfailing love and Your faithfulness. We trust that You are working all things together for his good, and we declare that his future is bright in You.
