The fact that you are reaching out in this way shows that the Holy Spirit is at work in your heart, drawing you toward freedom and restoration.
First, we must address the reality of addiction and its grip on your life. The Bible warns us in 1 Peter 5:8, "Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour." Alcohol and drugs dull your senses, weaken your resolve, and open doors to the enemy’s influence. They are not just habits—they are strongholds that must be broken in the name of Jesus. We rebuke the spirit of addiction that has taken hold of you, and we command it to loose its grip in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. You are not powerless; you have the power of the Holy Spirit within you, and greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4).
Your desire to be a better husband, father, and employee is a godly one, and we believe God is calling you to step into the fullness of His purpose for your life. However, transformation begins with surrender. Proverbs 23:20-21 warns, "Don’t be among those who drink too much wine, or those who gorge themselves on meat; for the drunkard and the glutton shall become poor; and drowsiness clothes them in rags." Your current lifestyle is leading you toward destruction, not just physically, but in your relationships and your walk with God. We urge you to take this moment seriously—today can be the day you truly turn away from these things, not just in word, but in action.
We also want to speak to the spiritual condition of your heart. You mentioned watching Pete on C-SPAN, but we must ask: Where is Jesus in this moment? Have you surrendered your life fully to Him? Romans 10:9-10 tells us, "If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." If you have not yet made Jesus the Lord of your life, now is the time. He is the only one who can break the chains of addiction and restore what has been broken. If you have already professed faith in Him, we encourage you to recommit your life to Him today, asking for His strength to overcome every temptation.

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother who is crying out for help. Lord, we thank You that You hear his prayer and that You are near to the brokenhearted. We ask that You would break the chains of addiction in his life right now, in the name of Jesus. Father, fill him with Your Holy Spirit and give him the strength to resist temptation. Help him to turn away from alcohol and drugs completely, not just for today, but for the rest of his life. Lord, we ask that You would restore his relationships—his marriage, his role as a father, and his standing at work. Give him the courage to seek help, whether through accountability, counseling, or a recovery program that honors You.
Father, we also ask that You would draw him closer to You. If he has not yet fully surrendered his life to Jesus, we pray that he would do so today. If he has, we ask that You would renew his faith and give him a fresh hunger for Your Word and Your presence. Lord, we declare that he is not defined by his struggles, but by Your love and grace. We speak healing over his body, mind, and spirit, and we declare that he is an overcomer in Christ Jesus.
We rebuke every spirit of addiction, depression, and laziness that has taken hold of him, and we command it to leave in the name of Jesus. We declare that today is a new day, and that he will rise up from this moment with a renewed sense of purpose and determination. Father, give him the strength to go to work today, to face his responsibilities with integrity, and to be the husband, father, and employee You have called him to be. We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
Now, we urge you to take practical steps to walk in this freedom. First, get rid of every trace of alcohol and drugs in your home. Do not keep them around "just in case"—that is a snare of the enemy. Second, reach out to a trusted friend, pastor, or Christian counselor who can walk with you through this journey. You do not have to fight this battle alone. Third, fill your mind with God’s Word. Start reading the Bible daily, even if it’s just a few verses. Psalm 119:11 says, "I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you." Finally, pray without ceasing. When temptation comes—and it will—cry out to Jesus immediately. He is faithful and will provide a way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13).
You are not alone in this fight. We are standing with you, believing that God is going to do a mighty work in your life. Keep pressing into Him, and do not give up. The same power that raised Christ from the dead lives in you, and that power is greater than any addiction. Today can be the day your life changes forever.
