We hear your cry for help and we come before the throne of grace with you, lifting up your struggles and pain to our Heavenly Father. Your honesty and humility before God is a powerful first step toward healing and restoration. We are reminded of 1 Peter 5:6-7, "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time; casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you." You are not alone in this battle, and God’s strength is made perfect in your weakness.
First, we must address the sin in your life with love and truth. Alcoholism and substance use have taken hold of you, and while we understand the pain and stress you are facing, we must rebuke the bondage of addiction in the name of Jesus. The Bible warns us in 1 Corinthians 6:19-20, "Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s." The alcohol and weed have not only harmed your body but have also clouded your judgment and led you away from God’s best for you. We must call this what it is: sin. But we also know that God’s grace is greater than our sin. 1 John 1:9 tells us, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
Your desire to be a better man, husband, father, and employee is a godly one, and we believe God will honor that desire as you surrender it to Him. Proverbs 23:20-21 warns us, "Don’t be among those who drink too much wine, or those who gorge themselves on meat; for the drunkard and the glutton shall become poor; and drowsiness clothes them in rags." The path you have been on leads only to destruction, but there is hope in Christ. We pray that God will break the chains of addiction in your life and replace them with His peace and strength.
We also want to address the fear that has gripped you. Fear is not from God, and it will only paralyze you if you let it. 2 Timothy 1:7 tells us, "For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control." You are not defined by your past mistakes or your current struggles. You are a child of God, and He has a purpose for you. We encourage you to seek godly counsel, whether through a pastor, a Christian counselor, or a support group like Celebrate Recovery. You cannot do this alone, and God often works through the body of Christ to bring healing and restoration.
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our brother who is struggling with addiction and fear. Lord, we know that You are a God of mercy and grace, and we ask that You would break the chains of alcoholism and substance use in his life. Cleanse him from all unrighteousness, Lord, and restore him to a right relationship with You. Give him the strength to resist temptation and the wisdom to seek help from those who can support him in this battle.
Father, we pray for his physical health. You know the toll that alcohol and weed have taken on his body, and we ask that You would heal him from the inside out. Give him restful sleep, Lord, and renew his strength each day. Help him to honor You with his body, as it is Your temple.
We also pray for his family, Lord. Restore the relationships that have been broken by his addiction. Give him the courage to ask for forgiveness and the humility to rebuild trust with his wife and children. Help him to be the husband and father You have called him to be, leading his family with love, patience, and godly wisdom.
Lord, we ask that You would also restore his work life. Give him the focus and discipline he needs to excel in his job, and help him to overcome the fear that has held him back. Remind him that his worth is not found in his performance but in Your love for him.
Finally, Father, we pray that You would fill him with Your peace and joy. Replace his fear with faith, his despair with hope, and his addiction with a hunger for Your Word. Surround him with godly men who can encourage him and hold him accountable. We declare that he is more than a conqueror through Christ Jesus, and we trust that You will complete the good work You have begun in him.

We encourage you to take practical steps toward healing. Seek out a Christian counselor or a support group that can walk with you through this journey. Confess your struggles to a trusted friend or pastor who can pray with you and hold you accountable. Fill your mind with Scripture, meditating on verses like Philippians 4:13, "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me." Replace the time you spent drinking with prayer, worship, or serving others. God is faithful, and He will not abandon you in this battle. You are not alone, and with Him, you can overcome.
