Jesus Christ please continue to help me

You are in a real battle, and the honesty of your prayer shows that you sense it. Thank God for the victories He gave you today, staying at work, resisting the pull to go home early and drink. Those are not small things. They are skirmishes in a deeper war. So often we ask God to deal only with what we can see: the sweating, the shaky hands, the bruises, the damage to the liver. We pray, “Lord, just take away the symptoms. Make the desire stop.” But the Scripture speaks of a conflict inside every believer, a warfare between the flesh and the spirit. That is where the real fight lies. The physical cravings and the damage you fear are like the smoke; the fire is a spiritual struggle that only Christ can subdue.

When you and your wife drink and then do not get along, a sacred unity is being strained. God made marriage to be a compound oneness, two lives woven into one. What harms one harms the whole. The enemy wants to isolate you both in your own suffering, but the truth is you are one flesh. Your healing is bound up together. Instead of simply asking Jesus to remove the outward trouble, invite Him to strengthen your inner man, and hers. Fasting from something, whether food or a habit, can sharpen that awareness of how weak the flesh really is and how deeply you depend on the Spirit. It is a way of telling your body that it does not rule you.

Your hopes for your children are natural and good. You want them to prosper, to have joyful work, and to walk into marriage with stability. Keep bringing them before the throne. But anchor your hope for them, and for your retirement, and for every financial pressure, in something more lasting than a lottery ticket or even a successful five-year plan. Jesus affirmed that we will rise from the dead, and in the resurrection, life will be utterly transformed, no longer shaped by the strains we now carry. That does not make today’s burdens unreal, but it puts them in their place. You are a man with a future that cannot be taken away. That same power that will raise the dead is at work in you right now, able to break the chains that feel so heavy.

So by all means, keep asking for help with the projects, the deadlines, the relationships at work and home. But press deeper. Ask the Lord to expose the root of the turning to alcohol, the hidden weariness or pain. Ask Him to fill that empty place with His presence, so that a counterfeit comfort loses its appeal. The symptoms will follow the healing of the soul. You are not just hoping to become a better husband, dad, or employee by gritting your teeth. You are being remade from the inside by the Spirit of God. That is your true hope, and it stands firm whether you retire in five years or in fifty. Keep walking in that light, one day at a time.
