Jeremiah 17:7

That promise from Jeremiah is a steady anchor for every season. Blessed is the one whose trust and confidence are in the Lord, and that blessing does not come because you have earned it or because you have been good enough. It comes because God is gracious and loving, and He pours out His blessing on those who simply believe Him and rely on Him.

Scripture makes a clear contrast. To trust in people, in princes, in wealth, in chariots and horses, or even in the precautions we take for ourselves, is like building on ground that can slide away. People are frail, they fail, and the help they offer can collapse. But to put your trust in the Lord is to be like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved but stands firm. When the Lord is the one building the house and guarding your life, there is stability that nothing else can give. It is not wrong to be wise and careful, but your confidence must not rest in those precautions. Your confidence rests in the One who made heaven and earth and the sea and all that is in them, the One who is present with you right where you are.

That trust is received by faith. The law shows us we could never keep it perfectly and leaves us under its condemnation, but God made a covenant of blessing. He promised Abraham, in blessing I will bless you, and that promise comes to you through faith in Jesus Christ. You are not accepted because of anything in yourself. You are accepted in Christ, in whom you have redemption through His blood. The righteous live by faith, which means the life God blesses is the life that keeps trusting Him.

That trust will be tested. It is one thing to trust God when things are rosy and easy to understand, and another to trust Him in dark places, in suffering, and when you cannot see what He is doing. God often allows those hard places to show you where your confidence really lies, not so you will trust your own strength, but so your confidence will be in the living God. When you trust Him even there, when you do not understand but you still commit your life into His hands and seek to please Him, it brings great praise to His grace.

So cast your burdens on the Lord in prayer. Bring your petitions honestly, then let prayer move toward confidence in His Word and His character, until it ends in praise. Do not be afraid of what people may do or what circumstances may threaten. Put your hope in the God of Jacob, whose help does not fail. He will command His blessing upon you as you walk with Him, not because you are perfect, but because you are His through faith.

May the Lord strengthen your heart to keep trusting Him day by day, from this time forward and through all the years He gives you, and may He make your life a testimony of His faithfulness to those around you.
