Is being in a "clique" sinful?

When I say "clique," I don't mean a group of friends who hang out together, but also don't mind inviting someone else to join in. I mean when you have a group who thinks their group is the only ones there are, and they shun others outside the group, like they don't feel they have to show courtesy to others outside the clique, and in fact are downright rude to outsiders. They shun them. Now, is this a sin, especially if they shun others, and treat them as unworthy? I would think in some way that it is, because let's face it, Jesus did not approve of favoritism. "God is no respecter of persons." Nor does He approve of snobbery, thinking someone is "better" based on outside appearance and circumstances. For if a rich person comes into the synagogue, you tell him to sit in the front seat, but if a poor person comes in, you tell him sit in the back. Also, in a clique is favoritism coupled with dishonesty, like, someone will defend their "clique member" even if they did something wrong, and go against the person not in the clique, even if their clique member wronged them. That's favoritism. So, is the "clique mentality," and all its baggage, a sinful way of thinking? I would think so. You?

Yes, it is very sinful before the Lord. Jesus open heart and mercy reaches to all. He never ever said, join only with those you like, He said come to Me... all who are carrying a heavy load on their backs and I will give you rest. Your prayer group should be open to all, your church should not exclude anyone, your family should be open to hear God's word and not what the world is telling us. Jesus loves and blesses those who obey His word.

I believe that this association is based on poverty mentality. It's where loyalty and pride supersede integrity and compassion. Love has become conditional and admittance to this form of elitism is top-heavy with rules that serve to control you. Some can be very cult-like. Sometimes we believers can also be swayed. Remembered that the disciples did not want to enter the house of a tax payer fearing it was unclean. They had been predisposed to this form of elitism. It had become integrated in their lives. But our Lord wasn't bound by those man-made rules. Be careful of elitism. Cliques as you define brother promote an egoistic setting.

Limits to a social circle will make you like living in a cult where no one is allow to go out from their group or else they will punished severely. Jesus is a wonderful example on how we should follow. He said. Let the little children come to me.. We are His children and He is calling us to come to Him wherever we are. Avoid being in a clique, be open to all, caring and praying for everyone who comes to you.
