Disciple of Prayer
I am interested in a brother in Christ at my church. I genuinely do not want to get into any emotional attachment that will not lead into marriage. Hence I am praying in Jesus name that if this man is the husband God has assigned for me, that further opportunities for us to get to know each other will unfold smoothly and we will get more comfortable talking to each other. If this man is not my Godly sent husband, I am praying that Godly will gently re-direct my heart and remove any attachments I have for him. I also pray that the Lord will guide him to an amazing Godly wife and will guide me to an amazing Godly husband. I also pray that I will not idolize marriage and will find my contentment and fulfillment solely in the Lord. In Jesus name I ask. Amen.

We hear your heart, dear sister, and we join you in lifting this matter before the Lord with great care and discernment. Your desire to honor God in your pursuit of a spouse is commendable, and your prayer reflects wisdom in seeking His will above your own emotions. Let us first affirm the godly intentions in your request—your commitment to avoiding emotional entanglements that do not lead to marriage, your trust in God’s sovereignty over your heart, and your refusal to idolize marriage over your relationship with Christ.

The Scriptures remind us in Proverbs 3:5-6, *"Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."* You are doing exactly this by surrendering your desires to the Lord and asking Him to direct your steps. We also appreciate your prayer for contentment in Him alone, for as Paul writes in Philippians 4:11-13, *"I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content in it. I know how to be humbled, and I know how to abound. In everything and in all things I have learned the secret both to be filled and to be hungry, both to abound and to be in need. I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me."* True fulfillment is found in Christ, not in a spouse, and we rejoice that you recognize this.

We also want to encourage you to approach this brother in Christ with purity and wisdom. While your heart is guarded, it is important to remember that emotional attachments can form quickly, even unintentionally. The Bible warns us in 1 Corinthians 6:18, *"Flee sexual immorality! ‘Every sin that a man does is outside the body,’ but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body."* Though your request does not mention physical intimacy, the principle extends to emotional purity as well. Guard your heart diligently, as Proverbs 4:23 instructs, *"Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life."*

If this man is not the husband God has for you, we pray that the Lord would indeed redirect your affections gently but firmly, just as you have asked. We also pray that He would reveal His will clearly to both of you, so there is no confusion or unnecessary attachment. If he *is* the one, we ask that God would open doors for godly communication and mutual growth in Christ, that your relationship would be built on a foundation of faith, prayer, and shared devotion to the Lord.

Let us pray together now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with grateful hearts, thanking You for the wisdom and discernment You have already placed in this sister’s life. Lord, we ask that You would guide her steps and the steps of this brother in Christ according to Your perfect will. If it is Your plan for them to be united in marriage, we pray that You would open doors for them to grow in their knowledge of one another in a way that honors You. Remove any fear, hesitation, or awkwardness, and replace it with Your peace and clarity. Let their conversations be filled with grace, truth, and mutual edification in Christ.

If this man is not the husband You have ordained for her, Lord, we ask that You would gently redirect her heart and his, that there would be no lingering attachments or confusion. Protect their emotions and their friendship, and lead them both to the spouses You have prepared for them. We pray that You would bless this sister with contentment in You alone, that she would find her joy and fulfillment in Your presence, whether married or single. Help her to fix her eyes on You, the author and perfecter of her faith, and to trust in Your timing and Your plans for her life.

We also pray for this brother in Christ, that You would draw him closer to You, that he would seek Your will above all else, and that You would prepare his heart for the godly wife You have for him. May both of their lives be a testimony to Your faithfulness and love.

Father, we ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to You, and it is only in His name that we find salvation and hope. We trust in Your goodness and Your perfect plan for their lives. Amen.

Continue to seek the Lord in prayer and in His Word, sister. Spend time in the Scriptures, asking God to speak to you through them, and surround yourself with godly counsel from mature believers who can offer wisdom and accountability. Remember that God’s timing is perfect, and His plans for you are good. Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us, *"For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,” says Yahweh, “thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future."* Walk in faith, and trust that He who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Christ Jesus (Philippians 1:6).

We're right there with you, sister, as you navigate this journey of trust and patience. We're impressed by your desire to honor God in every step, and we're grateful for your transparency. We want to echo the prayers of wisdom, discernment, and contentment for you.

We're reminded of Psalm 37:4, "Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart." We pray that as you delight in Him, He will guide your heart and reveal His perfect will for you. We ask that He would grant you peace and joy in the present, knowing that He is working all things together for your good (Romans 8:28).

We also pray for this brother in Christ. We ask that God would give him wisdom and discernment, that he too would seek God's will above all else. We pray that any interaction between you two would be filled with grace, truth, and mutual respect, always pointing you both back to Jesus.

Let's continue to lift each other up in prayer, trusting that God is faithful and His plans are good. As you wait, we encourage you to find your contentment and joy in Him, knowing that He is more than enough.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy.

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
