Disciple of Prayer
Hello everyone, About two weeks ago I had a very bad panic attack which lead me to staying up 24 hours. The very next day I decided it was time to quit any and all THC consumption. I decided to do a taper method where I slowly ween myself off of the stuff but this has lead to prolonged withdrawal symptoms...the worst of them being insomnia and anxiety. This week alone I've had a day where I stayed up 36 hours and just earlier today I was up for about 30 hours. This of course makes the anxiety worse which in turn makes sleeping worse, so it becomes this crazy endless cycle. My prayer request is for any and all chains of addiction to be broken, I want to be set free. I want to be able to sleep without depending on a crazy amount of pills that sometimes work, sometimes doesn't. This has affected me greatly in terms of mental health. I know withdrawal symptoms can take weeks up to a month to resolve itself so I also pray that I have the strength to continue this. I appreciate all the prayers in advance, it means everything to me.

We hear your cry for freedom and rest, and we stand with you in agreement before the throne of grace. The chains of addiction and the torment of sleepless nights are not from the Lord, who gives His beloved sleep (Psalm 127:2). The anxiety and restlessness you describe are real battles, but they are not yours to fight alone. Jesus came to set the captives free (Luke 4:18), and that includes you. The enemy would love to keep you bound in this cycle of exhaustion and fear, but we rebuke that spirit of torment in the name of Jesus Christ. You are not designed to live in this state, God’s peace is meant to guard your heart and mind (Philippians 4:7).

Your decision to turn away from THC is a step toward honoring the temple of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Withdrawal is difficult, but it is a sign of your body and spirit realigning with God’s design. We acknowledge the strength it takes to endure this, and we pray that the Lord would sustain you through this valley. The psalmist wrote, "I will lie down and sleep in peace, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety" (Psalm 4:8). Claim that promise over your nights. Even when sleep feels impossible, declare that God is your rest.

We also want to gently address the use of pills to force sleep. While we understand the desperation, relying on substances, even legal ones, to this degree can become another form of bondage. The Lord is your healer (Exodus 15:26), and we pray that He would guide you toward natural, God-honoring ways to restore your body’s rhythms. Consider reaching out to a trusted Christian counselor or medical professional who can walk alongside you in this journey. There is no shame in seeking help; it is a sign of wisdom (Proverbs 11:14).

Let us pray for you now:

"Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother, lifting up his struggle with insomnia, anxiety, and the chains of addiction. Lord, You are the God who neither slumbers nor sleeps (Psalm 121:4), and You see his exhaustion. We ask that You would break every chain of dependency in his life, whether to THC, pills, or the spirit of fear. Replace his anxiety with Your perfect peace, which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Father, we declare that Your grace is sufficient for him, and Your power is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). Strengthen his body to rest, his mind to trust, and his spirit to hope in You alone. Surround him with believers who can encourage him and hold him accountable. Lord, we pray for supernatural sleep to come upon him, deep, restorative rest that can only come from You. Renew his strength like the eagle’s (Isaiah 40:31), and let him wake up each day with the assurance that You are fighting for him. We thank You for the victory that is already his in Christ Jesus. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen."

You are not alone in this. The Lord is with you, and so are we. Keep pressing into Him, even on the days when it feels like you’re barely holding on. His mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:22-23), and He will not let you be shaken. If you haven’t already, we encourage you to surrender this battle to Jesus daily, sometimes hourly, and let Him carry the weight. You are loved, you are seen, and you are being set free.

We’re grateful you reached out. Stopping THC after relying on it for a while takes real courage, and the sleepless, anxious days you’re in right now feel brutal, no one can think clearly or feel steady when rest keeps slipping away. It makes perfect sense that the anxiety spikes as exhaustion piles up, and we’re holding this whole cycle up with you in prayer.

Withdrawal can stir up intense physical and mental turmoil, and while your body knows how to heal, that process is harder when you’re running on empty. A practical step that often helps in this phase is to gently include a doctor you trust. Since you mentioned using pills that sometimes work and sometimes don’t, a medical professional can help you find a safer, steadier plan for these early weeks so you’re not fighting this alone. You don’t have to be a hero or white-knuckle it. Seeking that support is wise, not weak.

On a different front, many people find that addiction loosens its grip best when we’re not isolated. A group like Celebrate Recovery, which meets in many churches, offers a place to be honest about the struggle and draw strength from others who get it. Having a few people who know your story can make the long nights feel less lonely.

On the hardest nights, something as simple as letting softly played Christian music fill the room can anchor your mind when anxious thoughts spin. It’s not a cure, but it can be a small comfort that helps your body remember what rest feels like.

We’re praying with you now.

Lord Jesus, we bring you this sleepless, weary child of yours. You see the exhaustion, the racing heart, the longing to be free. Please quiet the inner noise that keeps rest out of reach. Give their body the deep, restoring sleep it so desperately needs, and bring them safely through these withdrawal days. Break every chain of addiction, and surround them with steady, wise help. Fill their mind with a real sense of your presence, steady and calm. We trust you to lead them into real freedom, one step at a time. Amen.

Have you gone to the doctor? Praying for this request in Jesus name
oops I replied without typing anything. yes, went to the doctor and they pretty much increased the dosage of the anxiety med as well as the sleep aid I take. they added an extra "take as needed" pill to help with anxiety. so they just loaded up on the pills and dosage.

Do not be so affected by external things as to get into a state of worry, fretfulness, care, anxiety and distress. In fact, as far as I have ascertained, either by my own experience or by the observation of others, I have never discovered that anxiety has comforted anybody, or that it has brought any grist to the mill, or any meal to the barrel! Well, if a thing does not pay, what is the good of it? Have you not found out yet, I have, that the very anxiety which arises through your being in a difficulty, unfits you to meet that difficulty?

And, blessed be God, that freedom is freedom indeed! No earthly power can bring real freedom to the soul, it is Grace and Grace, alone, that brings it by the blood of the Covenant! And where that freedom comes, no form of bondage can make a man a slave. He may be in bonds, but his soul is free! Justice demands our freedom, and mercy secures it. So, you see that it is immediate and unconditional abolition of slavery that we have to proclaim by the preaching of the Gospel! The great Liberator sets you free to act and live like Christ's free man, not to go about fawning and crouching like a slave who dreads his master's lash, but to walk uprightly, in both senses of that word, as a free man should, in the Presence of the Lord who has bought His servant's freedom.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
