Injured my ankle , swollen, rolled bad, resting and in pain, feeling discouraged

Thank you for sharing this request and allowing us to pray for you. Hearing that you have rolled your ankle multiple times and are now dealing with swelling, inflammation and ongoing pain while you rest is difficult, and it is understandable that you feel discouraged. We are bringing your ankle before the Lord and asking for His healing touch on the ligaments and tendons and for the pain and swelling to subside.

Scripture helps us keep this kind of suffering in perspective. Not every sickness or injury is a direct result of something a person has done. Good people do suffer illness and injury, and that does not mean God is directly causing it. At the same time the Bible teaches that pain and death and all the brokenness of our bodies came into the world indirectly through sin. If sin had not entered, there would be no pain. We live in a fallen world, and our bodies, as the apostle Paul says, groan under that weakness and long for complete deliverance.

That is why the work of Jesus is such good news for both soul and body. The prophet Isaiah said He has borne our griefs, and that word can be translated infirmities, and Matthew applies that prophecy to Jesus healing the sick, showing that He took our infirmities and sicknesses upon Himself. When He walked on earth He healed every kind of sickness and disease, sometimes with only a word, sometimes with a touch, and in one recorded case the healing came gradually, with sight restored in stages after He laid His hands on the man a second time. That reminds us that God heals in different ways. Sometimes healing is immediate, sometimes it is gradual, and sometimes it comes through the natural processes He Himself placed in our bodies to restore tissue and reduce inflammation. Any true healing is divine, because He is the one who created the body and its ability to mend.

We do not fully understand why some are healed quickly and others over time, and Scripture is honest about that mystery. Paul prayed three times for his thorn in the flesh to be removed and the Lord answered in a different way. That does not keep us from praying with confidence, because we know God is able and that healing is still His to give today. We also know He cares about more than the physical part. The psalmist spoke to his own soul when he felt low and said, why are you cast down, hope in God. When discouragement settles in with pain, the answer is to put our hope again in Him. He not only can touch the ankle, He can lift the heart and heal the wounds of disappointment and fear.

God never ends His story with desolation. For those who belong to Jesus there is the promise of restoration, a future where there will be no more tears, death, sorrow or pain, for the former things will have passed away. Until then He walks with us in our present sufferings and uses even these hard seasons for good.

Let us pray together. Father, in the name of Jesus we lift up this ankle injury to You. You see the swelling and inflammation, the torn and strained ligaments and tendons from being rolled again and again, and the pain that makes rest difficult. You bore our infirmities on the cross, and we ask You to release Your healing power now. Touch this ankle, restore what is damaged, calm the inflammation, ease the pain and bring complete healing whether in a moment or through the gradual process You designed in the body. Comfort this heart that feels discouraged, renew hope and peace, and remind Your child that You are near and that You care. Give wisdom for care and rest and patience in the recovery. We trust You and thank You for Your mercy. Amen.
