We hear the weariness and uncertainty in your heart and we join with you in bringing it before the Lord, asking for His protection, clarity, and peace in this difficult workplace situation.
We thank God that you are turning to Him and that you have been reading about Jesus and His plans, for He is our refuge and our healer. We pray that God will guard you from any harm and from any weapon formed against you, for His word promises No weapon that is formed against you will prevail Isaiah 54:17. We also take comfort that The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit Psalm 34:18, and that He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds Psalm 147:3.
We understand the panic and distress that comes after these ambiguous conversations that touch on past trauma. God does not want you to live in fear or confusion, for God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control 2 Timothy 1:7, and God is not a God of confusion, but of peace 1 Corinthians 14:33. When anxiety rises, He invites us to bring it to Him, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:6-7. We also hear your prayer for discernment about fake friendships and unauthentic connections, and we agree that God will make clear what is true and what should be removed. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him James 1:5, and Guard your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life Proverbs 4:23.
We want to gently speak to the emotional and mental drawing and attraction you describe toward this coworker. We understand that tug of wanting to solve and to stay engaged, especially when there is attraction that comes and goes and when you have explored friendship and now feel the ball is in their court. We encourage you to guard your heart and to seek clarity rather than living in ambiguity. If this is a connection between a man and a woman, God’s design is that such attraction be stewarded with great care toward courtship with the goal of marriage to a fellow believer in Christ, not toward an entangled or undefined emotional bond that leaves you anxious and weary. We are called to pursue holiness and to flee from fornication, for every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body 1 Corinthians 6:18, and to seek a godly marriage that honors Him. If this person is not seeking that same godly purpose with clarity and integrity, or if the conversations consistently provoke trauma and panic rather than peace and edification, it may be that God is showing you to establish firm, loving boundaries. If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men Romans 12:18, which in a workplace often means keeping interactions professional, kind, brief, and clear, and not inviting deeper emotional entanglement without mutual, godly commitment.
We pray together for you now.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You for our dear one who is weary and uncertain. Lord, we ask that You block every weapon formed against them and let none prosper, and that You remove any unauthentic connection or false friendship that is not from You, while protecting and preserving any relationship that You intend for good. Bring clarity where there is ambiguity, and let Your will be done. Heal the wounds of past trauma, calm the panic attacks that linger for days, and replace fear with Your perfect peace that guards heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Give wisdom to discern whether this coworker is meant to remain in their life or be removed, and give courage to set healthy boundaries at work that honor You. Guard their heart from being drawn into emotional confusion or attraction outside of Your design for marriage between a man and a woman, and lead them toward relationships that are pure, honest, and Christ centered. Draw them ever closer to You, Lord, as they seek You and read about Jesus, and let them find rest in Your promise Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest Matthew 11:28. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus, our only access to the Father, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. Amen.
We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord daily in prayer and in His Word, and to consider sharing this burden with a trusted pastor or biblical counselor who can walk with you and help you establish wise workplace boundaries. Keep bringing every ambiguous conversation to God for His light, and trust that as you seek Him first, He will make your path clear and give you peace even before the next time you see this person again.
