I’m trying so hard

I’m just working through a lot of family hurt and dynamics that I just don’t want to deal with anymore. It’s just never going to change. At least I want to believe it will but Gods just letting things keep going like this where I get just am tired of being the one who gets blamed for everytthing. I’m just done. I’ve been made to feel stupid and dumb so many times and I just don’t want to deal with abuse anymore. I don’t know how to keep trying with family when they have unrepentant hearts and won’t ever apologize for hurt they cause.

We hear the deep pain and exhaustion in your words, and our hearts ache with you. Family should be a place of love, safety, and mutual respect, yet it sounds like you’ve been carrying burdens no one should have to bear alone. The weight of being blamed, belittled, and wounded by those who should protect you is crushing, and we want you to know your feelings are valid. But we also want to gently remind you that God sees every tear, every injustice, and every moment you’ve endured in silence. He does not turn away from your pain.

First, we must address the abuse you’ve described. Scripture is clear that no one is called to endure mistreatment, especially within the family. The Bible commands us to love one another, but it also calls us to speak the truth in love and to set boundaries when others persist in sin. Ephesians 4:29 says, "Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for building up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear." When others use their words to tear you down, it is not your responsibility to subject yourself to that. Proverbs 22:24-25 warns, "Don’t befriend a hot-tempered man, and don’t associate with one who harasses: lest you learn his ways, and ensnare your soul."

You mentioned feeling like God is letting things continue as they are. We understand that frustration, but we must remind you that God’s timing is not ours. He is not indifferent to your suffering, He is working even when we cannot see it. Isaiah 55:8-9 tells us, "‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways,’ says Yahweh. ‘For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.’" God may be using this season to refine your faith, to teach you to rely on Him alone, or to prepare you for something greater. But that does not mean He expects you to endure abuse without seeking His justice and protection.

We must also gently rebuke the idea that you are responsible for the unrepentant hearts of your family. Ezekiel 18:20 makes it clear: "The soul who sins, he shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son." You are not accountable for their sin, nor are you obligated to remain in a toxic environment where you are continually harmed. Jesus Himself said in Matthew 10:14, "Whoever doesn’t receive you, nor hear your words, as you go out of that house or that city, shake the dust off your feet." There is wisdom in knowing when to distance yourself for your own well-being, both spiritually and emotionally.

But we also want to encourage you not to lose hope entirely. Even in the midst of unrepentant hearts, God can work miracles. We’ve seen families transformed by prayer, by godly intervention, and by the slow, steady work of the Holy Spirit. Pray for your family, yes, but also pray for wisdom. Pray for discernment to know when to engage and when to step back. Pray for strength to forgive, not because they deserve it, but because God has forgiven you. Colossians 3:13 says, "Bear with one another, and forgive each other, if any man has a complaint against any; even as Christ forgave you, so you also do."

And to the weariness in your spirit, we say this: You are not stupid. You are not dumb. You are a child of God, fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). The enemy would love for you to believe the lies that have been spoken over you, but we rebuke those words in the name of Jesus. The truth is that you are valued, you are intelligent, and you are deeply loved by your Heavenly Father. Do not let the words of others define you. Romans 8:37 declares, "No, in all these things, we are more than conquerors through him who loved us."

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our dear brother/sister who is carrying such a weight of pain and exhaustion. Lord, You see every tear, every injustice, and every moment they have endured in silence. We ask that You would be their refuge and strength, a very present help in this time of trouble (Psalm 46:1). Father, we rebuke the spirit of abuse and oppression that has sought to break their spirit. We declare that no weapon formed against them shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and we ask that You would surround them with Your angels for protection.

Lord, we pray for wisdom and discernment for them. Show them when to speak and when to be silent, when to engage and when to step back. Give them the strength to set boundaries that honor You and protect their heart. Father, we ask that You would soften the hearts of their family members. If there is any hope for reconciliation, we pray that You would bring it about in Your perfect timing. But if not, Lord, we ask that You would give them peace in knowing they have done what is right in Your eyes.

We also pray for healing over the words that have been spoken over them. Let the truth of Your Word sink deep into their spirit. Remind them that they are fearfully and wonderfully made, that they are Your beloved child, and that their worth is not defined by the opinions of others. Father, we ask that You would restore their joy and renew their strength. Help them to wait on You, knowing that those who hope in You will not be put to shame (Isaiah 49:23).

And finally, Lord, we ask that You would draw them closer to You. Let this season of pain become a season of deeper intimacy with You. Teach them to cast all their anxieties on You, because You care for them (1 Peter 5:7). We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the One who bore our sorrows and carried our griefs. Amen.

We want to leave you with this encouragement: You are not alone. Even if your earthly family fails you, your Heavenly Father never will. He is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). Keep seeking Him, keep trusting Him, and keep standing on His promises. This season will not last forever, and God is using it to shape you into the person He has called you to be. Hold on, dear one. You are seen, you are loved, and you are not forgotten.

We hear you, weary, blamed, and wondering if anything will ever change. When the people who should be safest keep wounding you, it wears down your spirit until even hoping feels like a risk. You’ve been demeaned, made to feel stupid, and that is genuine abuse. God never calls anyone to endure that without relief; he calls us to love, not to be a punching bag for someone else’s unrepentant behavior.

One small but firm step can make a real difference right now: decide that for this next season, your emotional safety comes first. That doesn’t mean you have to announce a big confrontation or cut them off forever, but you can create a modest boundary, perhaps limiting your time with them to a few minutes on the phone, or stepping back from gatherings that always leave you shredded. You can also ask one trusted person (a pastor, a wise friend, or a counselor) to help you sort out where you end and their abuse begins. You don’t have to carry the weight of their lack of apology. Their hardness is between them and God, not your load to haul.

Forgiveness and reconciliation are not the same thing. Over time you might release the anger so it doesn’t poison your own heart, but that does not mean you must let the same people keep hurting you. Your mind and emotions need space to heal, and that takes a season of protection, not continued exposure.

We’re praying with you now, seriously and simply.

Jesus, you know what it is to be despised and rejected. Hold our friend close. Quiet the inner voice that repeats the family’s accusations, and let your voice of steady love speak louder. Give them courage to build a safe boundary, and surround them with at least one person who truly sees their worth. Guard their heart from despair, and lift the exhaustion so they can breathe again. Amen.

The heart does groan under such a load, when those who ought to be our warmest comfort prove the sharpest thorn. Yet, take heed that your own spirit does not slip into that most dangerous of refuges, the casting of all blame upon others, while forgetting to search your own soul before the Lord. I do not say they have not wronged you, nor that their unrepentant hearts are not a sorrow, but see to it that you do not, in your weariness, fall into the snare of excusing every fault of your own by saying, “It was they who drove me to it.” Whatever your circumstances may have been, if you try to lay the blame of your guilt on your circumstances, I have little hope concerning you. The first work of grace is to teach a sinner to cry, “Against Thee, Thee only, have I sinned,” and to lay his hand upon his mouth before the throne. If you have been sinned against, remember how much you have been forgiven by the Eternal Father, and let that soften your heart even toward the unthankful.

Yet I know well that the sorest trials often spring from those who share our name and table. It is no small grief when the arrows fly at home. But think of this: within the divine household, there is never a broken family, nor can death itself divide the “whole family in heaven and earth.” The saints above and the saints below are one undivided household still. Your earthly lineage may fail you; they may cast you out and count your name as evil. But if you are born of the Spirit, you belong to a family whose bond no unkindness can sever, for it is sealed by the blood of the everlasting covenant. Job lost every child in a single day, seven sons and three daughters, all gone at once, yet his heart did not fail, for he fixed his hope upon a living Kinsman. When your own flesh and blood turn cold, there is a Friend who sticketh closer than a brother, and His love alters not.

Meanwhile, do not faint under the rod, nor think it strange that you must bear the wounds of a divided house. Perhaps the Lord is calling you to a family reformation within your own spirit. Like Jacob returning to Bethel, take the lead of your own soul and say, “Let us arise and go up to the house of the Lord.” You say family prayer has grown hard; yet press on. I was never too tired to pray with my brethren, and I trust you will not let the altar of intercession crumble, though it be only your own voice that pleads for those who despitefully use you. The practice of family prayer is the castle of godliness in a home; woe to those who allow it to cease. Even if you must pray alone, kneeling in secret while others sleep, let the incense rise. God grant that private prayer may be more diligently and more spiritually maintained.

And as for their unrepentant hearts, it is not your stone they strike, but the foot of the Almighty. Do not take upon yourself the office of the Holy Spirit; leave them where Job left his accusers, in the hands of the Judge of all the earth, who will do right. Your part is to walk in love, to keep your own conscience clean, and to commit the keeping of your soul to Him in well-doing, as unto a faithful Creator. Though you are made to feel stupid and small, your worth is not measured by their scales. Look to the plumb line of the Word: every man in his own order, and it is not yours to force a repentance only God can give. Bear the trial, but do not ask to be made hard and unfeeling; grace does not work stoicism, but a quiet, aching submission that yet rests in the arms of a good Father.

Therefore, child of sorrow, turn your eyes from the broken cisterns and look to Christ, the Fountain of living water. In Him, you have a family resemblance that cannot be marred by earthly strife, they that are led by the Spirit, they are the sons of God. Let that be your chief identity. Though Noah’s family was saved by entering the ark, each soul still had to walk through the door in perfect freedom. So you, amid the wreck of old affections, must choose to abide in the Ark, Christ Jesus, and find there a home that outlasts all the fading ties of time. The Covenant promise to you is sure, and when those you love will not go with you into that refuge, still your salvation is hid with Christ in God.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The weight you carry is heavy, yet remember that God’s permission of these trials is not abandonment but a proving ground for your soul. When you are blamed unjustly, the impulse to strike back, to make them feel what you feel, rises quickly. But the law of eye for eye was given to chain the hand of the aggressor, not to loose yours. If you let resentment sharpen your tongue or harden your heart, you become the very thing you despise, and you wound yourself more deeply than any insult could. Keep free from passion; by wishing to smite another, you bring the hurt upon yourself.

Instead, do what seems impossible in the flesh: show kindness where cruelty is given. You say their hearts are unrepentant, but it is precisely for such souls that our Lord’s long-suffering is meant, that they might one day be shamed into change. Heaping coals of fire on their head is not about revenge but the burning conviction that love can bring. Even if they never apologize, you have preserved your own spirit from the poison of bitterness. The harm they intend cannot truly touch you unless you consent to it by returning evil for evil.

Do not be deceived: the carnal mind that revels in blame and refuses repentance is enmity against God. Yet as long as they breathe, they can change. Pray for them, not with despair but with the steady hope that God’s patience, which you so often need yourself, may yet soften them. And if they do not turn, you are not to judge them, for judgment belongs to the Lord. Your task is to walk upright, not to demand an apology as your due. The apostle himself laid aside his rights for the sake of others, bearing with their failings as a father to a wayward son, for their correction, not their hurt.

When the hurt feels fresh, remember that enduring unjust blame in silence for Christ’s sake is never wasted. It teaches you humility, it draws you nearer to the One who was reviled and did not revile in return. Do not look at those who seem to get worse under God’s patience; look rather to the gentle souls who are gained by it. That could be you, and that could be them. But even if it is not, keep yourself unspotted from the world’s wrangling. The words that defile you are not those spoken against you, but the words you are tempted to speak in return. Lay your exhaustion at the foot of the Cross, and let Christ be your defender.
