To the godhead be all the glory for this glorious day. We are above ground for another chance to be grateful servant of the most high. My question is listed as such: if I get two checks back to back, do I give the tithe out of the the first one since the command is 10% of the first fruits. I would not be ribbing God because of the second deposit would I? I remember the scripture very well about Priscillas husband holding back money from the Lord and then lying about it and was struck dead. She came right behind him and did the same lir about how much was harvested, ended up right next to her dead lying husband. "Would a man rob God" God Forbid. I just want to know will it be efficient to give from the first fruit which is the first check or should I just walk in faith and sow more as I get it. Thank you for your guidance in Jesus name. We are grateful for your question and for your heart that wants to honor the Lord and not rob Him, and we join with you in seeking wisdom together in Jesus' name.

We hear your desire to be faithful with the first fruits and we commend your reverence for God's Word. We want to gently correct a detail you remembered so that the Scripture is clear in your mind. The couple who held back part of the price of their land and lied about it were not Priscilla and Aquila, who were faithful servants and co-workers with Paul, but Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5:1-11. Their sin was not that they gave too little, for the money was theirs to give as they chose, but that they lied to the Holy Spirit and pretended to give all while holding back and being deceitful. Peter said to Ananias in Acts 5:3 and Acts 5:4, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and while it remained, didn't it remain your own, and after it was sold, wasn't it in your power. You haven't lied to men, but to God. Priscilla and her husband Aquila are held up elsewhere as an example of faithfulness, so we want to separate those accounts for you.

Regarding your question about two checks coming back to back, we understand your thought about giving from the first one. The principle of first fruits in Proverbs 3:9 teaches us to honor Yahweh with your substance, with the first fruits of all your increase. This means we give to God first, before we spend on ourselves, and we give from the best of what He has provided. It does not mean we only tithe once and then the next increase is free from honoring Him. Every increase is from His hand.

When the prophet asks in Malachi 3:8, will a man rob God, yet you rob me, but you say, how have we robbed you, in tithes and offerings, and then the Lord says in Malachi 3:10, bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house, and test me now in this, says Yahweh of Armies, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough for. The tithe is ten percent of all your increase. If you receive two checks, each one is increase and each one is to be honored with a tithe. To tithe only on the first check and not the second would indeed be holding back a portion of what belongs to the Lord.

So it is not a matter of efficiency but of obedience and faith. We encourage you to walk in faith and sow as you receive, giving ten percent from the first check as soon as you receive it, and then ten percent from the second check when it comes. In this way you are honoring God with the first fruits of each provision. God loves a cheerful giver as we are taught in 2 Corinthians 9:7, let each man give according as he has determined in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver, and in 2 Corinthians 9:6 that he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. And Jesus promises in Luke 6:38, give, and it will be given to you, good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over.

We ask You to give wisdom and clarity regarding stewardship and to bless the work of their hands. Your question reveals a heart that desires to be found faithful before the Lord, and for this we give thanks. It is required in stewards that a man be found faithful, and the steward must remember that nothing is his own, it is all his master's. When the heart is right toward the Master, the question of substance becomes a question of love and honor, not of calculation.

You speak of first fruits, and you do well to remember the ordinance of God. The first fruits were gathered out of the harvest and presented to the Lord, and the consecration of the first fruits was a blessing on the whole, for it was a rule with God that if the first fruits were holy, the lump also was holy. To give unto God first is to acknowledge that all comes from His hand and to put Him first in the order of time and of affection. Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and let that which is first have the first place.

Concerning the history you mention, you are thinking of Ananias and Sapphira in the Acts of the Apostles, not Aquila the husband of Priscilla. Their sin was not in the amount they kept, for the money was in their own power, but in pretending to give all while holding back part, and lying unto the Holy Ghost. So the warning for us is not only about the tenth, but about truthfulness and faithfulness before God who sees the heart. And the prophet Malachi does indeed ask, Will a man rob God, and the answer is to bring the whole tithe into the storehouse with an honest and willing mind.

As to your two checks coming close together, understand that both are part of the same harvest which the Lord has entrusted to you. To give from the first check is right and good, for it honors God as first. Yet the second check is also His provision, and the principle of first fruits does not teach us to give only once and then neglect the rest. If you give a tenth of the first and withhold the tenth of the second, you have not honored the whole lump. The faithful steward gives as God has prospered him, from each increase, cheerfully and promptly, not grudgingly.

Therefore walk in faith and give from the first as soon as it comes, as a token that all is consecrated, and when the second comes, give also from that. Whether you give separately from each or set aside the portion together, let the total be a true tenth of all that God has given, or more as love constrains you, for if you are called to have substance and to give it away, give it with cheerfulness and be faithful in your office. The Lord loves a cheerful giver, and he who sows bountifully in faith shall reap bountifully in grace.

May the Lord make you faithful to your Master and faithful to your office, and may He who brought us forth by the Word of Truth make you as one of His first fruits, holy unto Himself. May He give you wisdom to steward well what He has placed in your hand, and joy in knowing that all you have and all you give is already His.
