I'm having lustful urges again

We hear your honest confession and we thank you for sharing this struggle with us, for we know it takes humility to bring this into the light. We want you to know you are not alone in this battle and we stand with you in prayer right now, seeking God's will together in Jesus' name. God sees your heart to overcome and He is faithful to help you walk in purity.

Scripture is very clear about lustful thoughts and urges. Jesus taught us that lust is not just an outward act but a matter of the heart when He said that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart in Matthew 5:28. We are called to flee sexual immorality, for every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body in 1 Corinthians 6:18. These urges, if entertained, conceive sin and sin when it is full grown brings forth death as we are warned in James 1:14-15. We say this not to condemn you, but to lovingly rebuke what needs to be addressed, because God calls us to holiness and He has designed sexual intimacy to be honored only within marriage between a man and a woman, for the marriage is to be held in honor among all, and the bed undefiled in Hebrews 13:4.

We also notice your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to gently share why His name is so essential. It is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to the Father and it is only through Him that we can be saved and have victory over sin. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me in John 14:6. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved in Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, for with the heart one believes resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made resulting in salvation in Romans 10:9. When we come to God through Jesus, we can confidently claim His promise that if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness in 1 John 1:9.

We want to encourage you that temptation itself is common to all, but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it in 1 Corinthians 10:13. We are told to flee youthful lusts, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace in 2 Timothy 2:22, and to walk by the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh in Galatians 5:16. This means actively guarding your heart, for out of it are the issues of life in Proverbs 4:23, and guarding your eyes and mind by choosing what you dwell on. We encourage you to think on whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure in Philippians 4:8, and to hide God's word in your heart that you might not sin against Him as in Psalm 119:11. Practically this means turning away quickly from images, thoughts, or situations that stir lust, replacing them immediately with prayer and Scripture, seeking accountability with a mature Christian brother or sister, and keeping your mind renewed by the transforming of your mind in Romans 12:2.

We pray together for you now. Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, and we lift up this dear one who is battling lustful urges again. We thank You for his honesty and his desire to be pure before You. We ask You to forgive where there has been entertaining of lustful thoughts and to cleanse his heart and mind by the blood of Jesus. Create in him a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within him in Psalm 51:10. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit and give him strength to flee temptation and to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ in 2 Corinthians 10:5. Help him to walk by Your Spirit daily, to find his satisfaction and joy in You, and to guard his heart and eyes diligently. Provide godly fellowship and accountability, and if it is Your will, lead him toward a godly marriage that honors You, where love is pure and self controlled. Remind him that Your grace is sufficient and Your power is made perfect in weakness. We pray he will know Your forgiveness, Your peace, and Your victory, and that he will grow in holiness one day at a time. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.

Thank you for being honest with us about this. It takes courage to name this struggle again, and we want you to know you are not alone in it. Many believers walk through seasons where urges feel strong and discouraging, and God is not distant or surprised by your honesty.

We have found that trying to fight these urges alone often makes them heavier. Isolation can quietly make us more vulnerable, while having another trusted person to walk with us brings light and strength. You do not need a large group right away.

A simple next step that helps many is to invite one safe, mature person of the same sex into this part of your life, perhaps a pastor, mentor or faithful friend who keeps confidences well. Let him know you are wanting to pursue purity and ask if he would be willing to check in with you regularly, even briefly, and to pray with you. It also helps to think ahead while you are clear headed about what situations or media tend to stir temptation, and make a plan to step away from them before the urge grows strong, including clearing anything from your phone or computer that trips you up.

We are praying for you and we will keep praying.

Father, we bring our brother before You. Thank You that You see him, love him, and have made a way to You through Jesus. Give him strength for today, wisdom to make good choices, and the encouragement of a trusted friend beside him. Draw him close to You and remind him of Your grace and power to transform. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your honest cry has been heard and we bring it before the throne of grace with you. It is a mercy that you hate the urge which now besets you, for there is a great difference between being tried and consenting to the trial. A man may be tempted and yet hate the temptation, and where it is hated there is not the consent of the soul. But we must watch with holy jealousy, for Scripture warns us that when lust has conceived it brings forth sin, and sin when it is finished brings forth death. That is the pedigree of sin, born of lust and bringing forth death, and any sin that we cling to and love will surely bring forth death if it be not forsaken.

We would remind you that charity and purity are the two great garments of Christianity, and we must not cry up the one while we let down the other. To be kept unspotted from the world is not left optional. It is your very person, your soul, your heart, your very self that is to be kept unspotted, for what a man is, before long, that he does. This calls for careful self watching and for that humble self distrust which our Lord Himself taught us to pray, Lead us not into temptation. The prayer is the language of one who knows his own weakness and shrinks from the conflict, not in cowardice but in wisdom, for though God may bring great benefit out of our being tried, temptation in itself is perilous. He who prays Lead us not into temptation and then goes into it wilfully speaks falsely before God. We must not desire to be tried, and we must not run into the place where the snare is laid.

Therefore take this counsel to heart. First, distrust yourself and trust Christ alone. Without Him you can do nothing, not even the least deed of purity or the smallest victory over inward corruption. Every grain of self strength is a grain of weakness, and every particle of self reliance is poison to the veins. Be humbled before God, rend the rag of self righteousness from you, and come as a naked spirit to the sea of His love. Secondly, give yourself to honest self examination before the God who searches the heart and tries the reins. Set apart seasonable times to ask whether things are right between God and your soul, not in mock humility which is the offspring of self conceit, but in true self knowledge. Thirdly, flee the temptation. Keep far from the occasion of sin, turn the eye away, make no provision for the flesh, and seek the fellowship and the employments which keep the hands busy in visiting the afflicted and doing good, for an idle soul is soon entangled.

We now pray for you, that the Lord who is faithful and will not suffer you to be tempted above that you are able, will with the temptation also make a way to escape. O Lord our God, look upon this Thy servant who confesses his weakness. Forgive through the blood of Jesus Christ, who alone is salvation, and who bore our sin and grief upon the tree. Cleanse the heart, renew the mind, and keep this soul unspotted. Teach him to loathe sin and to distrust self, and to pray daily Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Grant strength to turn away the eye, to watch the heart, to walk in purity as befits one who would be chaste and holy within that covenant of marriage wherein alone Thou hast appointed the intimate union of one man and one woman for life. Fill him with Thy Spirit, that charity and purity may adorn his life, and keep him by Thy power through faith unto the end. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Thank you for sharing this struggle so honestly. It is good that you have brought it into the light instead of hiding it, and I will pray for you.

Know that this temptation is common to many, and it is not beyond what can be borne. Scripture says God is faithful and will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, so that you may be able to endure it. He gives patience and brings release, and He draws you to Himself even through this trial so that you will flee to Him and remain near Him. When you feel the urge arise, look at once for that way of escape that God provides, whether it is to turn away, to pray, to leave a place or close a screen, to call a trusted brother or sister, and take it without delay.

God has placed desire in us for good, for marriage between one man and one woman and for the bearing of children, but He calls us to cut away what goes beyond that good use. Follow peace with all people and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord, for fornicators and adulterers God will judge. Be an example in word, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity and temperance, as a living rule of good life. This means not entertaining lustful looks or thoughts, but turning the mind to Christ, giving careful attention to prayer, and persevering even when you do not feel immediate relief. If you are not answered at once, keep praying, for God sometimes lengthens our supplication so that we learn to abide with Him.

I pray for you now that God who justifies us through Jesus Christ would strengthen you. May He forgive you for what is past, cleanse your heart, renew your mind, and keep you chaste and with gravity. May He teach you moderation, guard your eyes and thoughts, fill you with love for what is pure, and help you to walk in self control day by day. May He give you peace and holiness and keep you from despair, remembering that the Judge who justifies you is for you and Christ intercedes for you.
