We hear your honest cry and we join with you in bringing this struggle before the Lord, for He sees your heart and He desires to give you victory and purity. Lustful urges are common to all, yet God calls us not to be led by them but to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. We want to encourage you that God is faithful and He has not left you alone in this battle.

The Word of God is clear that lust is not to be entertained or nurtured but to be fled from and overcome by the Spirit. Jesus taught us that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart Matthew 5:28. We are commanded to flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body 1 Corinthians 6:18. And again we are told to flee from youthful lusts, but pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart 2 Timothy 2:22. God gave sexual desire as a good gift to be expressed only within the lifelong covenant of marriage between a man and a woman, and any indulgence outside of that, whether in thought, in looking, or in act, is fornication and needs to be repented of and forsaken.

We encourage you to walk by the Spirit, and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh Galatians 5:16. No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it 1 Corinthians 10:13. That way of escape often means turning your eyes away as Job covenanted, I made a covenant with my eyes, how then should I look lustfully at a young woman Job 31:1, renewing your mind daily Romans 12:2, hiding His Word in your heart that you might not sin against Him Psalm 119:11, and setting your mind on whatever is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, and of good report Philippians 4:8. We also urge you to seek godly accountability with a mature Christian brother or sister, to guard what you watch and where you go, and to replace idle time with prayer, Scripture, and service.

We notice your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and find both forgiveness and power to overcome. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and to call upon His name daily for cleansing and strength.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we lift up this dear one to You in the name of Jesus Christ. We confess these lustful urges before You and ask for Your forgiveness and cleansing. We ask that You create in him a clean heart and renew a right spirit within him. Help him to flee from every source of temptation and to make no provision for the flesh. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit so that he may walk in purity and self control. Teach him to hide Your Word in his heart and to take every thought captive to Christ. Strengthen him when he is weak and show him the way of escape You have promised. Lead him, if it is Your will, toward a godly marriage that honors You, and help him to pursue courtship that is pure and Christ centered. Give him peace, assurance of forgiveness, and joy in knowing he is Your child. We trust You to complete the good work You have begun in him. In the name of Jesus we pray, amen.

We appreciate your honesty in bringing this to us. It takes courage to name what you are feeling instead of hiding it, and we want you to know you are not alone in this struggle.

Many who walk through this find that isolation makes urges stronger, while bringing them into the light with a trusted person makes a real difference. If you do not already have someone, we would encourage you to consider one faithful, same gender friend, pastor or mentor you can be fully honest with, someone who can check in with you regularly and offer steady support. It helps to decide ahead of time, when you are clear headed, what boundaries will protect you and to clear away anything that tends to pull you back in, rather than waiting until the moment of temptation.

We are praying for you for renewed strength and peace, and for wisdom to see the deeper longings underneath and to find healthy ways to meet them in Christ.

Father, we bring our brother before you and ask for your help and mercy. Give him strength to turn from what tempts him, comfort in moments of struggle, and trusted companions to walk with him. Lead him toward what is pure and life giving and fill his heart with your presence. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your open confession is heard with tenderness and with hope, for it is a good thing to bring the secret struggle into the light before God rather than to hide it in the heart where it may gather strength.

Scripture teaches us that charity and purity are the two great garments of the Christian, and you are right to desire to be kept unspotted from the world. James warns us plainly, when lust has conceived it brings forth sin and sin when it is finished brings forth death. That is the pedigree of sin. It is born of lust and it brings forth death. Therefore the struggle you feel is not to be trifled with, nor to be indulged, but to be watched and prayed against with careful self watching.

You must know that temptation itself, when it is hated and resisted, is not sin to you. A man may be tempted and yet hate the temptation, and then there is no sin in it to him. The sin lies in conceiving the lust, in petting it and allowing it to dwell. What a man is, before long he does, and so it is your very person, your soul, your heart, your very self that is to be kept unspotted.

Take then the prayer our Lord has taught us and make it your daily cry, Lead us not into temptation. This is the prayer of humble self distrust which shrinks from the conflict. It says, Lord, spare me from too great trials lest I fall by their overcoming my patience and my faith. The man who prays Lead us not into temptation and then goes into it is a liar before God. Therefore never go into temptation. Do not put yourself in the way of it by the eye or the ear or the company you keep or the hours you spend alone and idle. Flee from it as from a serpent.

And remember this word also, Without me ye can do nothing. Every grain of self strength is but weakness, and every particle of self reliance is but poison. You will not overcome by your own resolve. You must look to the Lord Jesus Christ for all things, as a familiar Friend who is alive and near, and cast yourself wholly upon His strength. When you have overcome, hang not up your banner for yourself, but give Him the glory.

Set apart seasons for honest self examination, not with mock humility but with true heart searching before Him who searches the heart and tries the reins. Ask Him to show you what feeds these urges, and to cut off the provision for the flesh.

Let us pray together for you now.

O Lord our God, who sees the heart, look upon this soul who desires purity and deliverance. Forgive all sin past and present through the blood of Jesus Christ Thy Son. Withdraw not Thy grace, but put Thy fear within, and keep this Thy servant unspotted. Lead him not into temptation, but deliver him from evil. Give a hatred for sin and a love for holiness, and fill the heart with Christ so that there is no room for the intruder. Strengthen with Thy Spirit in the inner man, and make Thy strength perfect in weakness. Keep by Thy power through faith unto salvation, and let charity and purity adorn the life to Thy praise. In the name of Jesus Christ our only Saviour we ask it. Amen.

Walk now in that dependence. Fill your mind with Scripture, keep your hands busy in useful service and in visiting those in affliction as true religion directs, seek the fellowship of faithful brethren to whom you may be accountable, and when the urge comes, turn at once to prayer and to the Word. God is faithful, who will with the temptation also make a way to escape.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Thank you for sharing this struggle openly. It takes humility to bring lustful urges into the light and ask for prayer, and God hears those who come to Him honestly seeking help.

Scripture teaches that temptation is common to all of us, but God is faithful and will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you can bear, and with the temptation He will also make a way of escape so that you can endure it. You are not alone in this battle, and you have not yet faced something that is beyond His grace to help you overcome. At the same time Scripture calls us to pursue holiness and purity, without which no one will see the Lord, and to flee from sexual immorality rather than linger near it. That means not only asking God for strength in the moment, but also turning away from whatever feeds the desire and choosing temperance and self control as a pattern of life.

I have prayed for you and I will continue to pray. Here is a prayer you can pray yourself:

Father in heaven, I come to You through Jesus Christ Your Son, who alone is my salvation. Forgive me for my sins and cleanse my heart. You see the urges that trouble me and the temptations that press upon me. Give me strength to flee from what is impure and to choose what is holy. Make clear to me the way of escape that You promise, and help me to take it. Fill my mind with Your Word and my heart with love for You, so that I may live with purity, self control and gravity before You. Teach me to love virtue itself and to walk as an example in word, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. Keep me close to You today and guard my thoughts and actions. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Continue to seek the Lord daily in prayer and in Scripture, and consider practical steps to guard your heart such as removing sources of temptation, staying accountable to a mature and trusted believer, and filling your time with good and useful work. God delights to give patience and a speedy release to those who call on Him, and He will help you to stand firm as you trust Him and walk in obedience.

Thank you for being honest about what you are facing and for asking for prayer. What you are describing is something every person experiences in this life, and God is not surprised or disappointed that you brought it into the light.

It helps to remember that being tempted is not the same as sinning. Even Jesus was tempted, yet He never sinned. Temptation often comes as a pull from our own desires that invites us to step away from God's way and seek immediate fulfillment. The sin comes when desire is allowed to conceive and we choose to follow it, rather than turning from it. In every temptation you have a real choice, whether to walk according to the flesh or to walk according to the Spirit.

Scripture describes the things of this world in three ways, the desires of the flesh, the desires of the eyes, and pride in what we have or want to be. Almost every temptation will fall into one of those areas. They are not from the Father, and they do not last. The world and its desires are passing away, but the one who does the will of God will remain forever.

Lust in particular can never be satisfied by feeding it. The more it is fed, the stronger and more demanding it becomes until it controls a person. The only way to deal with it is to starve it. That means denying yourself, reckoning yourself dead to that old life and alive to God through Christ. You have been made new in Him, and you do not have to be mastered by the flesh any longer. The battle is largely for the mind and heart, and God wants to rule there by His Spirit.

God has promised that no temptation has overtaken you except what is common to all people, and He is faithful. He will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you can bear, and with every temptation He will provide a way of escape so you can stand under it. You still must take that way out when He shows it. Often that way is to turn immediately to His Word and to prayer, to fill your mind with what is true and pure, and to step away from the place or image or thought that is enticing you. Jesus answered every temptation with Scripture, saying it is written. Hiding the Word in your heart is a powerful protection against sin.

I am praying for you now, that God will give you strength to choose the Spirit over the flesh, that He will make the way of escape clear to you and give you courage to take it, and that He will fill your mind with His Word and His peace. May He help you to walk in purity and holiness, to starve what would destroy you and to feed what gives life, and to know the patience and victory that comes as your faith is tested and strengthened. Ask Him for help quickly when the urge comes, trust that He hears, and keep walking with Him one decision at a time.
