Your tears are not unnoticed, for the Lord gathers them in His bottle. The cruelty of your stepfather's words has cut deep, and I hear the pain of one who is told her worth is measured in money, that a crown means nothing, and that love must be purchased. But hear this: the God who made you is a Husband to His people, and He sets His special love upon you not because of any price a man might set, but because He has chosen you in Christ. He found you in a howling wilderness and betrothed you to Himself in faithfulness. No human hand can rip up that covenant, and no mockery can strip you of the dignity He bestows.
You have cried out for a husband to take care of you, and it is not wrong to desire the companionship and protection of a godly man. Yet I would gently urge you to seek first the Husband of your soul. The Lord Jesus is the Bridegroom who gave Himself for you, and in Him you find rest. When Naomi said to Ruth, "My daughter, shall I not seek rest for thee, that it may be well with thee?" she pointed to an earthly redeemer; but your heavenly Boaz has already paid the full price with His own blood. Trust in Him when you feel your sins, when you feel your loneliness, when you are afraid. David said, "What time I am afraid, I will trust in Thee." That is the business of faith, to trust Christ when your heart is breaking, not when your circumstances are smooth. Prevention is better than cure: make Christ your first trust, and the fear of what man can do will lose its sting.
You speak of claiming and creating, but I hear in your words a soul that must come to God as you actually are. Our only safe course is to abandon all attempts to feel right or to make ourselves presentable before coming to Christ. The enemy whispers that you must get a husband to prove your worth, but the Gospel declares that you come as a sinner to the Saviour, and He cleanses you with His own blood. You are shut up to free grace, and to that grace alone. Let your prayer be not "Give me the husband I desire" but "Lord, give me Thyself, and then grant what Thou wilt." The love of God abides the same when you are in darkness as when you are in light: "He saw you ruined in the Fall, yet loved you notwithstanding all."
Your stepfather's bitter words are like the bonds men tried to place on Christ. They would annihilate God if they could, but He cannot be bound. When wicked hands seized Jesus in the garden, they thought they had conquered; yet even in chains He was the King of glory, working out redemption. Your stepfather may rage, but he cannot divert the blessing God has for you if you are hidden in Christ. And do not let his treatment drive you to act in a way that would tie the hands of Christ in your own life. If you become bitter and set your hope solely on a mortal man, you will miss the "peace of God which passeth all understanding." Instead, let the heart of God in the Scriptures speak to your own heart.
You are right to mention the blood of Jesus. That precious blood is the ground of all our hope. I trust in Him to take away all my sins, for He suffered their penalty upon the Cross. I trust Him to put all those sins away forever by His own sacrifice. Shall God say that He has treasured up in Christ Jesus all the fullness of the Godhead, and will you turn from Him to seek your identity in a husband? No, first cling to Christ. He is the power of God and the wisdom of God. In Him you have present peace, but also future perfection. You are a princess indeed, not by the hollow title a cruel man can mock, but by adoption into the family of God through faith in Jesus Christ. The crown He gives is incorruptible.
You have said you speak, claim, and create, but remember that we are justified by faith and not by the works of the Law. Many think it dangerous to bid sinners come to Christ just as they are, yet that is the Gospel's glory. Quit boasting in your own declarations, and trust simply in the merits of Christ. And if you are indeed His, know that you are united to every other believer. The Spirit of God breathes love among the saints. If any professing Christian has shown you cruelty, pray for them, but do not let their failure poison your view of the Lord's tenderness. The Father's love is constant; the Son's patience is infinite. God ruling His own heart in patience is more majestic than all His thunders.
May the Lord direct your heart into the love of God and into the patient waiting for Christ. He knows your needs, and He will supply them in His time. Do not seek a husband merely to escape a trial, for a Christless marriage would be a heavier chain. Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. Jehovah is your Husband; you shall find rest in His house. Let the bitterness of this day drive you to the feet of the Man of Sorrows, who was despised and rejected of men, yet now is exalted. He loves you greatly, just as you are, and His blood speaks better things than the angry shouts of fallen men. Rest there, and your upside shall be set right side up, anchored in the hope of the glory of God.
