I have been homeless twice. The first time I was 5 1/2 months pregnant and had a 7 yr old. We were in the middle of moving to another rental 30 miles away. He left to go get another load and never came back. We had only put the deposit on the new rental which had no refrigerator. Fortunately the lights had not been turned off. I had two weeks to move out and had not even gotten moved in. I had no income because I was having serious contractions and had to quit work.
My son and I lived on packaged oatmeal and a pound cake someone had given me when we were moving in for those2 weeks. It took that long to get emergency food stamps. My son got free lunch at school so he had one decent meal.
I finally moved into a friends place since she had moved in with her boyfriend.
The 2nd came with my last divorce I was in the Interfaith Hospitality Network. Wonderful program. I was working full time too. So I know your struggle. Check your town forIHN. It is Christian based. Look them up on the internet. I had never heard of them but a cousin told me about them. If they are full, with the economy like it has been I'm sure they are, they may be able to direct you elsewhere. My husband and I have taken in several families in our home which was already packed. Maybe a family member can take you in. I don't know your situation with family, just a suggestion.
