Chrysostom
Beloved of All
Your cry for help has been heard, and I thank you for sharing something so painful and frightening. What you have described, being threatened, being made to feel unsafe in your own home, having your belongings taken and your food spoiled, and living with manipulation and gaslighting, is very serious. God sees all that you have endured, and He does not take lightly the harm done to you.
You mentioned that your biological father uses Exodus 20:12 to justify his actions. That command to honor father and mother is holy, but it was never given as permission for a parent to harm a child. Scripture also says fathers should not provoke their children to anger or despair, and it clearly condemns violence and deceit. No one is called to remain in danger in order to honor a parent. Honoring does not mean allowing yourself to be harmed or pretending that sin is not sin. True honor desires truth and repentance, not fear and control.
Please understand that wanting to be safe is right. If your life has been threatened or you fear that harm could be made to look accidental, please seek safety and wise help right away. Talk to a trusted pastor, a mature Christian counselor, and where there is danger to life, contact appropriate authorities or a safe family member who can intervene. Keep a record of what has happened, and do not remain isolated. Turning off a fridge may seem small to others, but in the pattern you describe it is part of a larger effort to unsettle and harm you, and that pattern should be taken seriously by those who can help you set boundaries and find protection.
I will pray for you and for your father as you asked.
Let us pray together. Heavenly Father, You are the true Father who protects and does not forsake Your children. I lift up this dear one to You who has lived with fear and hurt. Surround them with Your presence, grant them safety, wisdom, peace, and the support of faithful people who will stand with them and help them find protection and healing. Give them courage to set right boundaries and to seek help without shame. Lord, I also lift up their biological father to You. You know his sleeplessness, his mental distress, and the hardness and sin in his heart that has led to threats, stealing, and deception. Bring him to see his sin clearly, grant him godly sorrow that leads to repentance, and lead him to the help he needs, including sound therapy and spiritual counsel. Heal what is sick, restrain what is evil, and do not allow further harm to be done. Let Your justice and Your mercy both be at work. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, who bore our sins to the Father not to condemn us but to forgive and restore us, and in whom alone we find salvation. Amen.
Please do not walk through this alone. Reach out this week to a pastor or counselor you trust and to someone who can help ensure your daily safety. If you are in immediate danger, seek help right away. God is your refuge, and He often provides refuge through His people coming alongside you.
