If I prayed for my business to generate money, will it happen?

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Does Christ listens and fulfills prayers to do with money? I’ve been praying for 3 years now and nothing. Nothing too greedy, I just want enough money to survive and take care of my family, finally stand on my own two feet rather than relying on parents. I’m nearing ###. I’m wondering if God ever has a financial plan for us, or it’s sinful to want to live comfortably / not within God’s plan for us to be holy?

We hear your heart in this and we have prayed over your request together. We understand the weight of wanting to provide for your family, to stand on your own and to be a good steward, and to feel as though your prayers about your business and provision have gone unheard for three years. We want to assure you that desiring to provide for your family is not sinful, it is godly and it honors God.

The Bible makes it clear that God does care about our daily needs and that providing for our household is part of holiness, not contrary to it. 1 Tim 5:8 says But if anyone doesn’t provide for his own, and especially his own household, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever. And Phil 4:19 reminds us My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. At the same time God calls us away from the love of money and from greed. 1 Tim 6:10 says For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. There is a difference between loving money for its own sake and faithfully asking God for enough to live, to care for your family and to do honest work. What you describe, wanting enough to survive and to no longer rely on your parents, is a right and honorable desire.

Does Christ listen and does He answer prayers about money and business. Yes, He does. Psalm 34:17 says The righteous cry, and Yahweh hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. And 1 John 5:14 says This is the boldness which we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us. The key is according to His will and in His timing. Sometimes we ask and do not receive because our motives need refining, as James 4:3 says You ask, and don’t receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it for your pleasures. Sometimes God is answering differently than we expect, teaching us perseverance, refining our character, or inviting us to seek wisdom and change our methods. And sometimes He is calling us to combine prayer with diligent action and wise counsel.

We want to encourage you to seek first His kingdom even as you pray for provision. Matt 6:33 says But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. When we put holiness and obedience first, God promises to add what we need. That does not mean He promises wealth or that every business will succeed, but it does mean He has a plan to provide for His children as we walk faithfully. Prov 16:3 says Commit your deeds to Yahweh, and your plans shall succeed. And Prov 21:5 says The plans of the diligent surely lead to profit and everyone who is hasty surely rushes to poverty. We encourage you to bring your business fully before the Lord, to commit your work to Him, to work diligently as unto Him, and to seek godly counsel about your business model, your stewardship and your skills. 2 Thess 3:10 reminds us If anyone will not work, neither let him eat, which shows God honors faithful labor alongside prayer. It may be helpful to ask trusted, mature believers or mentors to review your business with you, to look at budgeting, debt, customer needs and whether adjustments are needed. God often provides through wisdom, open doors and faithful effort.

We also hear your discouragement after three years of praying. We want to remind you that God’s timing is not ours and that He has not forsaken you. Psalm 37:25 says I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his children begging for bread. Nearing this new season of life you mention can feel like pressure, but God is not measuring you by the world’s timeline. He is forming holiness in you even as He cares about your practical needs. Heb 13:5 says Be content with what you have, for he has said, I will in no way leave you, neither will I in any way forsake you. Contentment does not mean we stop asking or working, it means we trust His presence while we continue to ask and work.

We are thankful you mentioned Christ, for it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. If you have put your trust in Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins and for eternal life, you can come boldly before God in His name knowing He hears you. If you have not yet fully surrendered your life to Him, we encourage you to do so today, believing that He died and rose again for you and confessing Him as Lord, for that is the foundation of every prayer.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up our brother to You. We thank You that You know his needs, his business, his family and his desire to provide faithfully. Lord, we ask that You hear his cries and give him assurance that You listen and that You care about every detail of his life. We ask for Your provision according to Your riches in glory, for daily bread and for wisdom to steward what You provide. Give him clear direction for his business, show him where to persevere and where to adjust, and connect him with wise counsel. Help him to seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness and to trust You with the outcome. Guard his heart from discouragement and from the love of money, and fill him with contentment, diligence and hope. Strengthen his faith after these long years of waiting and help him to stand on his own feet for Your glory while honoring his parents. May his work be an offering to You and may his life reflect Your holiness and Your goodness. We ask this in the precious name of Jesus, amen.

We encourage you to keep praying, keep working faithfully, keep seeking wisdom and keep trusting that God is both holy and a provider. He is shaping you for holiness and He has not forgotten your need for daily provision. Continue to commit your plans to Him, remain diligent and honest in all your dealings, and rest in His faithful care.

We hear how discouraging these three years have been for you, praying faithfully for your business and still feeling stuck and dependent on your parents when you long to provide for your family and stand on your own feet. Nearing a milestone birthday can make that weight feel even heavier, and it's understandable to wonder if God hears you or if wanting stability is somehow wrong.

Wanting enough to live on and care for your family well is not greedy or unholy in itself. God cares about both our character and our daily needs, and the desire to be a good steward and provider is a good one. At the same time, His provision doesn't always come in the way or timing we expect, which is why waiting can feel so confusing.

One thing that has helped many in a similar place is to invite wise, practical eyes alongside prayer. Would you consider asking one trusted person with business or financial experience - perhaps someone through your church or a local community agency that offers free financial counseling - to sit down and look honestly at your budget and business plan with you? Sometimes an outside perspective can spot a small adjustment, a different direction, or a next step that is hard to see when you're carrying the burden alone.

We are praying for you.

Father, in Jesus' name we lift this brother to You. You know his diligence, his love for his family, and his desire to walk responsibly before You. Give him clear wisdom for his business, provision for his daily needs, and peace as he trusts You with the future. Guide his steps and remind him he is not forgotten. Amen.

Your honest and burdened cry has not fallen unheard, though for three years the heavens have seemed as brass. To desire to provide for your household, to stand upon your own feet and not be a charge to your parents, is not in itself a greedy or sinful prayer. Our Lord Himself taught us to pray, Give us this day our daily bread, and He who clothes the lilies and feeds the sparrows knows that you have need of these things. The prayer for provision, when it is sincere though it be feeble, is acceptable to God, for sincere prayer may often be very feeble to us, but it is always acceptable to Him.

Yet you ask, does Christ listen and fulfill prayers concerning money, and why does the answer tarry. Hear this truth, that unanswered petitions are not unheard. God keeps a file for our prayers. They are not blown away by the wind, they are treasured in the King's archives. There is a registry in the court of Heaven where every prayer is recorded. Brethren must not take delays in prayer for denial. God's long dated bills will be punctually honored, and we must not suffer Satan to shake our confidence by pointing to our unanswered prayers.

There are causes for such delay which every praying man should search out in his own heart. It may be a Fatherly chastisement for sin harbored, or an admonition against sin yet clinging to us. Sometimes there may be great sin in the prayer itself, for we may sin against God in the prayer chamber as well as in the market, and offend upon our knees as well as in our business. If prayer be offered with self conceit, that self conceit tears the chariot wheels from prayer so that it drags heavily and cannot move. Or it may be that prayer has not been fervent, and no prayer is likely to bring down an immediate answer if it is not a fervent prayer, for we must get rid of the icicles that hang about our lips.

There are seasons also when even prayer must take a secondary place and faith must lead us to act as He bids us. As the Lord said to Moses, Why criest thou unto me, speak unto the people that they go forward. Prayer was never meant to be a substitute for diligence. He that would have his business prosper must join honest labour with earnest supplication, and after he has done what wisdom directs, then betake himself to prayer with greater earnestness.

Is it sinful to want to live comfortably, and does God have a financial plan for you. The Lord does have a plan, but His first plan is not to make you comfortable, but to make you holy. He has promised to supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus, but He has not promised to supply all your wants according to your notion of comfort. To provide for your own household is good and right, for if any provide not for his own he hath denied the faith. To crave more than daily bread from mere covetousness is sin, but to ask for enough to live honestly, to work quietly and to owe no man anything, is a lawful petition. Learn then to pray as Jacob prayed, in humility of spirit, pleading the promise. True prayer is just pleading with the Most High, spreading our case before Him and pressing our suit with all the arguments we can muster, saying with David, Remember the Word unto thy servant. You do not change the will of God by prayer, but your prayer is the shadow of a coming blessing, a reminding of your heavenly Father of His promises.

Therefore do not restrain prayer before God. Be not weary though the answer tarry. He is strengthening your muscles and tendons by the arduous exercise of unanswered prayer that you may be finely useful in the future. Examine your heart, confess any sin that may hinder, bring your business and your need before the Lord with fervent, humble pleading of His Word, and then go forward in diligent, honest labour, seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. He who heard your first prayer for mercy when you asked Him to blot out your sin, still hears. Continue to cry unto Him, and in His own time and way, which is ever the best way, He will answer, not always as you expect, but always for your good and for His glory.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Please pray for ### as he seeks to provide for his family and stand on his own feet. He has prayed for three years about his business and livelihood without seeing change. Pray that he would know Christ hears him, that he would have wisdom and open doors, that he would stay diligent and alert in his work, and that he would be content with what God provides while still working faithfully. Pray that his heart would be kept from greed and comparison, that he would seek wise counsel, and that he would not walk alone but share his burden with mature believers. Pray that he would trust God's timing and will, and that he would receive daily bread, strength to labor with integrity, and hope that rests on eternal riches.
