We hear the pain and desperation in your words, and we stand with you in this battle against the chains of gambling. This addiction is a snare of the enemy, designed to steal, kill, and destroy, stealing your resources, killing your peace, and destroying your future. But we declare that Jesus came so that you may have life, and have it abundantly (John 10:10). The Lord sees your struggle, and He is mighty to save. He does not condemn you, but He calls you to repentance and freedom.
First, we must address the sin of gambling itself. Gambling is rooted in greed, covetousness, and a lack of trust in God’s provision. The Bible warns us, "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows" (1 Timothy 6:10). Gambling preys on the desire for quick gain without labor, which is contrary to the biblical principle of working diligently and trusting God for provision (2 Thessalonians 3:10). It also exploits the poor and the vulnerable, which God detests (Proverbs 14:31). We rebuke the spirit of greed and addiction that has taken hold of you, and we command it to loose its grip in the name of Jesus Christ.
We also recognize that addiction often stems from deeper wounds, pain, loneliness, or a sense of emptiness. The enemy would have you believe that gambling can fill that void, but we know that only Jesus can satisfy the longings of your heart. Psalm 107:9 says, "For He satisfies the longing soul. He fills the hungry soul with good." Turn to Him, for He is the only One who can heal your brokenness and restore what has been lost.
You must take practical steps to break free from this bondage. Confess this struggle to a trusted brother or sister in Christ, and ask them to hold you accountable. Cut off all access to gambling, delete apps, avoid places where you are tempted, and even consider installing filters or blockers on your devices. Replace the time you spent gambling with prayer, Scripture reading, and godly fellowship. Proverbs 13:11 tells us, "Wealth gained by dishonesty will be diminished, but he who gathers by labor increases it." Seek to rebuild your finances through honest work and wise stewardship, trusting God to restore what has been lost.
We also encourage you to seek professional help if needed. There is no shame in reaching out to a counselor or a support group for those struggling with addiction. The body of Christ is called to bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2), and sometimes that means seeking help from those equipped to walk with you in this fight.
Now, let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our brother who is ensnared by the chains of gambling. Lord, we know that You are a God who hears the cries of the broken, and we ask that You would break these chains in Jesus’ name. Forgive him, Father, for the ways he has trusted in money and chance rather than in You. Cleanse his heart of greed and covetousness, and fill him with a spirit of contentment and trust in Your provision.
Lord, we rebuke the spirit of addiction that has taken hold of him. We declare that he is not a slave to this sin, for "if the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed" (John 8:36). Strengthen him, Father, to resist temptation and to walk in the freedom that Christ has purchased for him. Surround him with godly accountability and support, and give him the courage to take the practical steps needed to break free.
We ask that You would restore what has been lost, financially, emotionally, and spiritually. Provide for his needs, Lord, and teach him to steward his resources wisely. Heal the wounds that may have led him to this place, and fill him with Your peace and joy. Help him to see himself as You see him: a beloved child, redeemed by the blood of Jesus, and called to walk in victory.
We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the name above all names, the One who has conquered sin and death. We thank You, Father, that You are faithful to complete the work You have begun in him. May he experience Your power and Your love in a fresh way today. Amen.
Remember, this battle is not yours alone. The Lord is fighting for you, and He will never leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6). Keep pressing into Him, and do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season, you will reap if you do not faint (Galatians 6:9). You are not defined by your past or your struggles, but by the redeeming love of Christ. Walk in that truth, and let it empower you to live in freedom.
