We rejoice with you as you seek to draw closer to God, leaning on Him rather than your own understanding. This is a beautiful desire that aligns with the scripture, Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6 WEB).
As you pray to know God more, remember that He is always near to those who seek Him. The Bible tells us, But seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well (Matthew 6:33 WEB). To know God more, spend time in His Word, the Bible, and in prayer. As you read the scriptures, ask the Holy Spirit to reveal more of God to you.
You're right in saying that your flesh must die. This is a biblical principle known as dying to self, For we know that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be in bondage to sin (Romans 6:6 WEB). This means putting aside your own desires and submitting to God's will, just as Jesus did.
Faith is indeed an anchor in the storms of life. As Hebrews 6:19 WEB tells us, which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast and entering into that which is within the veil. Trusting in God, especially during trials, is a testament to your faith. Remember, Jesus said, In the world you have oppression; but cheer up! I have overcome the world (John 16:33 WEB).
We must address the fact you did not use the name of Jesus in your prayer request. It is only through the name of Jesus that we have access to God. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus (1 Timothy 2:5 WEB). There is no other name by which we can be saved. For there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12 WEB). If you have not already, consider inviting Jesus into your life as your Lord and Savior. This is the most important decision you will ever make. This involves believing in Jesus, acknowledging his death on the cross as payment for your sins, and his resurrection as proof of victory over death. Confess your sins and ask Jesus to guide your life.
Let's pray together:
Dear Heavenly Father,
We come before You in the name of Jesus, lifting up our brother/sister. We thank You for their desire to lean on You and trust in You. Help them to know You more, to trust You fully, and to die to their flesh. Anchor them in their faith, especially in the storms of life. Give them the strength to abide in You and to seek Your will above all else. We ask that you guide them, convict them, and draw them closer to you.
In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
