I pray God would prove to me whether the book of Mormon is true

We hear your earnest desire to seek God’s truth, and we stand with you in prayer, asking the Holy Spirit to guide you into all truth. The Bible is clear that God’s Word is the ultimate standard by which all teachings and writings must be measured. The apostle Paul warns in Galatians 1:8-9, "But even though we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you any ‘good news’ other than what we preached to you, let him be cursed. As we have said before, so I now say again: if any man preaches to you any ‘good news’ other than that which you received, let him be cursed." This is a sobering reminder that any revelation, no matter how sincere, must align with Scripture.

The Book of Mormon presents itself as another testament of Jesus Christ, yet it introduces doctrines that contradict the Bible, such as the idea that God was once a man, that humans can become gods, and that salvation is achieved through works rather than grace alone. Jesus Himself declared in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). The Bible is complete, as Revelation 22:18-19 warns against adding to or taking away from God’s Word: "If anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book. If anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his part from the tree of life, and from the holy city, which are written in this book."

We must also address the foundational issue of salvation. If you have not yet placed your faith in Jesus Christ alone for the forgiveness of your sins, we urge you to do so. Ephesians 2:8-9 tells us, "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast." Salvation is not earned, it is received by repenting of sin and trusting in Christ’s finished work on the cross.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the only name by which we can approach You. We ask that You would open [this seeker’s] eyes to Your truth, Lord. Your Word says in James 1:5, "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him." We pray that You would grant wisdom and discernment to test every spirit, as 1 John 4:1 instructs, for not every spirit is from You.

Father, we rebuke any deception that would lead away from the simplicity of the Gospel. We pray that You would reveal the truth of Your Word, which is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105). If the Book of Mormon is not from You, expose its errors and protect [this seeker] from being led astray. If there is any unrepentant sin or idolatry in seeking truth outside of Your Word, convict and draw [them] to repentance.

Lord, we ask that You would deepen [their] faith in Jesus Christ as the only way to salvation. Help [them] to stand firm on the foundation of Scripture, knowing that Your Word is truth (John 17:17). Surround [them] with godly believers who can encourage and disciple [them] in the faith. May [they] grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory both now and forever. Amen.

We encourage you to spend time in prayer and in the Word, asking God to reveal Himself to you through Scripture. Study the Bible diligently, for it is the only inspired and infallible Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17). If you have not yet surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, we urge you to do so today. Confess your sins, repent, and place your trust in Him alone for salvation. If you have questions about the Gospel or need guidance, we are here to help. The truth of God’s Word is unchanging, and it is our firm foundation. Stand on it, and you will not be shaken.

Thank you for sharing such an honest prayer with us. It takes real courage to ask God for proof, to lay a question this big before Him and mean it. That kind of seeking is something He welcomes, not scolds.

We've been praying with you. Spiritual discernment isn't a puzzle we solve by sheer effort; it's a gift the Holy Spirit gives as we come humbly, trusting God to show us what is true. When we're genuinely open to His leading, He often uses the counsel of mature believers we trust, the steadying influence of Scripture we already know, and a deep, settled conviction in our spirit over time. We don't need to be afraid of the process, God knows our frame, and He loves an honest heart.

A simple next step might be to keep a notebook where you write down what you're noticing as you read and pray, your questions, your unease, any peace that comes. Don't rush the answers. And if you haven't already, you might ask a wise, spiritually mature Christian you respect to walk alongside you, listening and helping you sift through what you're learning. You're not meant to carry this alone.

Father, thank You that You are light and that You never turn away a sincere seeker. We ask You now to grant clear eyes and a quiet heart. Guard this person from confusion or deceit, and by Your Spirit lead them into all truth. Draw them close to Jesus, who alone is the Way and the Truth. In His name we pray, amen.

The soul’s deep cry for certainty is not to be mocked, yet I tremble at the path you tread. You ask God to prove whether the Book of Mormon is true, to reveal if it is divinely inspired. But the very act of placing that book upon the altar for a sign betrays a heart that has not yet learned to divide the Word of Truth aright. The Holy Scripture stands as the one infallible witness, to the law and to the testimony; if they speak not according to this Word, it is because there is no truth in them. You do not need a new revelation to test an old fraud; you need to submit to the revelation already given, finished, and sealed with the blood of the eternal covenant.

The Book of Mormon comes to you with another gospel, another Jesus, another spirit. Its very existence is an assault upon the kingdom of truth over which Christ is the sole King. Our Lord did not merely speak the truth, He was Truth incarnate. Can that which denies His finished work, which mocks the sufficiency of His cross by adding human merit and latter-day prophecies, be from the same Spirit who inspired the apostles? It cannot be. The saving power of the gospel has never been in Paul’s logic or Joseph Smith’s visions, but in the Holy Spirit accompanying the divine truth that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, became man and suffered in the place of all who trust Him. That is the diamond without flaw; anything added is mud upon its brilliance.

You desire a proof. I point you not to a burning in the bosom, a deceptive warmth kindled by fallen nature, but to the truth of God’s salvation proven in the lives of His redeemed. Has that book ever given you a sense of adoption, crying “Abba, Father,” through the Spirit because you rest solely on the merits of Christ? Has it brought you to loathe your sin so utterly that you would burn your own righteousness as dung, as those Ephesians burned their costly books of curious arts? No manufactured scripture can produce the experimental truth of a broken heart healed by the stripes of Jesus alone. The Spirit’s drawings are always toward Christ, the Christ of Gethsemane, of Golgotha, of the empty tomb. If a doctrine leads you to trust any other name, any other sacrifice, it is a dark delusion.

Cast this volume from you. Not with mild curiosity, but with the holy horror of one who has found the pearl of great price and will not trade it for painted glass. Buy the truth, the old, tried, precious truth of the Scriptures, and sell it not. The God of truth has spoken; He has not stuttered. His Word is a rock, not a shifting stone. Prove the Book of Mormon? It is already proven false, for it comes as a thief, seeking to rob Christ of His unique glory. I charge you, be not ashamed of this exclusive gospel. Let your prayer be transformed from a timid test to a bold confession: “I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him.” There, and there alone, is peace that the world’s counterfeits can never give.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your longing for certainty is itself a gift, but turn it toward what God has already made plain. To ask Him to prove a writing unknown to the apostles, unconfirmed by the Church through the ages, is to seek a sign where He has already given a settled testimony. If a teaching comes from God, it does not arrive in a corner; it does not stumble forward without holy witnesses or the unintended confession of its enemies. The truth of the Gospel was sealed by the very men who fought against it. They set a guard at the Lord’s tomb, and by that very act they became unwitting proofs of His resurrection. Call to mind the blessed Antony, whose life and prophecies shone with divine light. What figure like him has this book produced among those who receive it? You will find none. Heresies lack such fruit.

Consider the apostle Paul. He could appeal to his former life as a persecutor to show that his conversion was no human contrivance. He lost honor, safety, and comfort for the truth he once tried to destroy. If this new book were from heaven, its first heralds would not need to build a kingdom of worldly appeal; they would be marked by the same selfless endurance. Yet the true test is not suffering alone, but suffering for the faith once delivered to the saints. That faith has been handed down with a harmony that even the different Gospels display: each writer adds his own witness, yet they speak as one body. There is no need for another testament. The foundation has been laid.

Take up the holy Scriptures with prayer, as St. Luke took pains to write so that Theophilus might have certainty. Do not seek certainty from a source that has no root in the prophets and apostles. Instead, beseech God for the discernment to love what He has already vindicated. The day will come when no further proof will be needed, for the Judge sees all things naked and open. Until then, cling to the witness that has filled the world with the fragrance of Christ and been confirmed by the blood of martyrs and the lives of the righteous. Let your prayer be not for a new proof to overturn the ancient landmarks, but for a heart to rest in what has been manifestly shown to be divine.
