My grandma can get mean , verbally abusive and bully. So, I tend to record what she says and her very harsh, malicious and belligerent tone towards me that she just brings up the past and just other things and outs words in my mouth. I know this wrong of me to record this ...but I play it back as a reminder or something. I ask God to forgive me of doing this and that I feel wrong to do so. I do this rn protect myself if anything so I can defend myself. Lord please I need to know the truth.

Conscience, Record, God
Your conscience and life’s record will face God’s judgment so live now to avoid eternal condemnation.
The Heart of Jesus
Jesus invites all sinners to find rest in His gentle and humble heart.
The Art of Forgetting
God forgets our repented sins, so we must release past wrongs and live free from their weight.
We hear the heaviness in your heart and we join you in seeking God's will together in Jesus' name. You are carrying both the pain of harsh words from your grandmother and the conviction in your own conscience about recording her, and you are asking God for forgiveness and for truth. That sensitivity to what is right is evidence that the Lord is working in you, and we thank God that you want to walk in a way that pleases Him.

Your grandmother's mean, verbally abusive and bullying tone, bringing up the past and putting words in your mouth, does not reflect God's heart for how we are to speak to one another. Scripture says in Ephesians 4:31-32 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. And Proverbs 15:1 teaches A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. At the same time we are commanded in Exodus 20:12 Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which Yahweh your God gives you, and in 1 Timothy 5:1 we are told not to rebuke an older person harshly but to exhort them as a father or mother. This does not mean we must accept ongoing verbal abuse without boundaries, but it does mean we are called to respond without returning evil for evil and to pursue peace as much as it depends on us as Romans 12:18 says If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men.

We want to speak gently about the recording. Your conscience is telling you this does not feel right, and we encourage you to listen to that conviction. Secretly recording someone, even to protect yourself, can quickly become a way to hold onto hurt rather than to heal from it. Playing it back as a reminder can keep bitterness alive and keep you rehearsing the offense, which makes it harder to forgive as Christ calls us to. It can also damage trust further and in many places may have legal implications. If you are in a situation where you feel unsafe or need protection from false accusations, the more biblical path is to bring a trusted, godly witness into the situation, to seek counsel from a pastor or mature believer, and to address the matter openly as Matthew 18:15 directs rather than gathering evidence in secret to defend yourself. Vengeance and defense belong to the Lord, for Romans 12:19 says Vengeance is mine, says the Lord. We encourage you to ask the Lord whether to delete those recordings so they do not become a storehouse for resentment, and if there is a true safety concern, to keep any necessary concern only with the guidance of wise counsel, not as something to replay alone.

You asked God to forgive you and you feel wrong for doing this, and we want to assure you of His mercy. 1 John 1:9 says If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. When we confess with a sincere heart, He does forgive. You also said Lord please I need to know the truth, and we notice you did not mention the name of Jesus in your request. We say this in love because there is no other way to come to the Father and receive that forgiveness except through Him. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. The truth you are seeking is found in Jesus Christ Himself. It is only by placing your faith in Jesus, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and calling on His name, that you have access to God, peace with Him, and the power to forgive and to walk in truth. If you have not yet fully trusted in Jesus as your Savior, we urge you to do so today, and to bring every prayer to the Father in His name.

We pray together for you and for your grandmother.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, and we thank You that You see and hear all that has been spoken and all the hurt that has been carried. We confess our sins before You and ask for Your forgiveness for any deception or resentment in recording and replaying harsh words, and we ask You to cleanse our conscience through the blood of Jesus. We ask You to heal this grandchild's heart where words have wounded, to comfort them as Psalm 34:18 promises that You are near to those who have a broken heart, and to give them wisdom to honor their grandmother while also setting godly boundaries with gentleness and respect. Soften grandmother's heart, Lord, take away the malicious and belligerent speech, and help her to speak with kindness and self-control. Teach us both to speak truth in love, to let go of the past as You have forgiven us, and to seek peace. Lead us into Your truth, for Jesus is the truth, and help us to walk in forgiveness, not holding a record of wrongs, but trusting You as our refuge and defender. Give us discernment for what is right to do going forward and surround us with wise, godly counsel. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to keep seeking the Lord daily in His Word, to pray for your grandmother even when it is difficult, to not repay harsh words with harsh words, and to talk with a trusted pastor or counselor about healthy boundaries and how to address this pattern with honor and truth. The Lord knows your heart, He hears your cry for truth, and He will guide you as you walk with Him in Jesus' name.

We hear how heavy this has been with your grandma. Being spoken to with harsh, belittling words, having the past thrown at you and feeling like words are put in your mouth wears down your heart and confidence over time. It makes sense you would feel confused and want something solid to hold onto.

Wanting to record to protect yourself and to know what is true does not make you a bad person. It sounds like you are trying to find clarity in a painful dynamic where you feel unsafe and unheard. It also makes sense that replaying it leaves you feeling guilty and more hurt. Sometimes listening again keeps the wound open rather than bringing peace.

We hear your desire to do what is right before God and to be forgiven. We believe He sees both your pain and your conscience and invites you to bring both to Him honestly.

A next step that could help is to talk this through with one safe, steady person outside the house, like a pastor, counselor or trusted mentor. You could share what you have been experiencing and ask for wisdom about boundaries, how to stay safe when conversations turn harsh, and whether keeping recordings is actually protecting you or keeping you stuck. You do not have to sort this alone.

Father, we lift our friend to You in Jesus name. Cover them with Your care, bring clarity where there is confusion, heal the hurt from harsh words, and guide them to wise help and safe boundaries. Lead them into Your truth and peace. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

There is forgiveness with God, and that truth meets you even in the distress and confusion you describe. You have come with a penitent heart, trembling under a sense of wrong, desiring to be clean before the Lord, and the Word answers you, there is forgiveness with Him.

It is a divine forgiveness, I even I am He that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake. It is not given because your sin is small, but because His mercy is great. It is a surprising forgiveness, so free and full that it seems too good to be true, yet it is true, and it is complete. When He forgives, He forgives all the debt, not a part of it, and He remembers it no more. If you have believed in the sin forgiving God and accepted the atonement which covers all guilt, then you are among the blessed whose sin is no longer imputed.

You have felt rightly that to harbor guile is not the way of peace. The work of the Spirit is linked with the work of the Son, when the Son removes guilt, the Spirit removes guile. The forgiven man undergoes a change of nature, he no longer strains his conscience to hush its protests, but he confesses his fault and humbly takes the lowest place before God, admitting that he is altogether a sinner in need of grace. Bring this matter of recording plainly to the Lord. Confess what you know to be wrong, not with excuses but with a sincere desire to walk in truth. He not only forgave at the first all your sins, but He continues daily to forgive, and His forgiveness is eternal.

And as you have received such great forgiveness for great sin, you are called to copy the pattern you have received. Even as Christ forgave you, so also do you. This does not mean that harsh and abusive words do not wound, they do, and it is right to seek truth and to protect yourself with wisdom. Yet the Lord would have you not live by secret reminders that keep bitterness alive, but by open truth and by grace. Seek godly and wise counsel in your church, a pastor or a mature believer who can help you discern how to honor your grandmother while also setting needful boundaries against verbal abuse. To honor does not require you to remain alone with harm, and to forgive does not require you to pretend that cruel words have not been spoken.

The Lord Jesus drowns all the hosts of sin in the depths of the sea, and the whole of your guilt is swallowed up forever when you trust Him. Therefore come to Him now, not when you get home, not at some later hour, but now, and believe in the forgiveness of sins for yourself.

May the Lord grant you this prayer. O Lord, for Thine own name's sake, blot out the transgressions of this dear soul who confesses before Thee. Give a tender conscience and a true heart, cleanse from guilt and from guile by the blood of Christ, and fill the heart with Thy Spirit that there may be truth within. Grant wisdom to know how to walk in this difficult home, courage to speak truth in love, grace to forgive as Thou hast forgiven, and protection and peace under Thy care. Lead into wise counsel and keep from despair, for with Thee there is forgiveness, that Thou mayest be feared. Amen.

Your willingness to bring this honestly before God is itself a good and right step, and God sees both the pain you carry and the desire you have to walk in truth.

You describe being hurt by harsh, malicious words, by having the past brought up and words put in your mouth, and you also feel convicted about secretly recording those moments to protect yourself and to play them back as a reminder. That tension you feel is important to listen to. Scripture calls us to live in sincerity, with no deceit or hidden guile, but in simplicity and truth with a pure and unmalicious spirit, having nothing concealed. God desires truth in our inward parts, and Jesus Himself is the truth who sets us free. When we rejoice with the truth and not in unrighteousness, we are walking in the light where healing can happen.

The wish to defend yourself and to know what is true is understandable, especially when you feel bullied and verbally abused. Wanting protection is not wrong, but a hidden recording often does not bring peace. It can keep the hurt alive as you replay it, it can deepen distrust between you and your grandmother, and it keeps something concealed rather than bringing it into the open in love. A long suffering heart is strong and steady, not because it ignores wrong, but because it does not let every harsh word easily unsettle it, and it seeks to respond without anger or rashness.

God also calls us to honor our elders while not pretending that abusive speech is acceptable. You can honor your grandmother as your grandmother and at the same time set clear and calm boundaries. It is right to seek forgiveness when your conscience tells you something was not done in open truth, and Scripture assures us that those whose sins are forgiven and covered are blessed, for God forgives freely by grace to those who confess. As you have received forgiveness, you are also invited to extend forgiveness, not by excusing the abuse, but by releasing bitterness and entrusting justice to God, who will not call you to account for offenses you have forgiven in His strength.

I encourage you to take this to the Lord in prayer, confessing openly what you feel was wrong about the recording, and asking Him for wisdom to walk in truth going forward. Speak honestly with a trusted pastor, counselor, or mature believer in your church who can know your situation face to face and help you discern wise boundaries, safe ways to communicate, and how to address the hurt without secrecy. When possible, avoid hidden methods and instead seek open, calm conversation, perhaps with another trusted person present, and step away peacefully when speech becomes abusive. Fill your mind not with replayed harsh words, but with thanksgiving and with what builds you up in Christ, who is our secure foundation.

Pray that God would bring knowledge of the truth to both you and your grandmother, that He would soften hearts, guard your heart from anger and resentment, and give you gentleness and clarity. He who establishes us is God, and He is able to keep you firm, to forgive you fully when you confess, and to lead you into freedom as you know Him who is the truth.
