We rejoice with you in this desire to come back to Jesus, because this longing in your heart is evidence that the Father is drawing you back to Himself. You have not drifted too far for His grace to reach you, and there is no place you have been taken to or held in that His hand cannot bring you out of. The Lord has not moved away from you, and He welcomes all who return to Him with a repentant heart.
The Scripture assures us of His mercy when we turn back. James 4:8 says, Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners. Purify your hearts, you double-minded. And 1 John 1:9 says, If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We do not have to clean ourselves up before we come, we simply come confessing and forsaking what has caused us to drift, and He does the cleansing.
We are reminded of the prodigal son who had wandered far from his father, yet when he came to his senses and returned, his father did not rebuke him from a distance but ran to him. Luke 15:20 says, He arose, and came to his father. But while he was still far off, his father saw him, and was moved with compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. That is the heart of our Father toward you right now. Jeremiah 29:13 also promises, You will seek me, and find me, when you search for me with all your heart. Your seeking Him now is not in vain. And Hebrews 4:16 encourages us, Let us therefore draw near with boldness to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy, and may find grace for help in time of need.

Father, we come before Your throne of grace together in the name of Jesus Christ, thanking You for the work You are already doing in this heart that desires to return to You. Lord, we confess that we all drift when we take our eyes off You, but we thank You that Your lovingkindness never fails and Your mercies are new every morning. We ask You to forgive every sin, every wandering step, every place of being held captive, and to cleanse and restore through the blood of Jesus shed on the cross. Break every chain that has held our dear one away from You and draw them close again. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, renew a steadfast spirit within them, and give them a hunger for Your Word and for prayer and for fellowship with other believers who will encourage their walk. Help them to turn fully away from anything that does not honor You and to walk in newness of life, knowing they are fully forgiven and fully received as Your child. We trust Your promise that he who began a good work will be faithful to complete it. In Jesus name we pray, amen.
We encourage you to act on this desire today by confessing openly to the Lord all that has caused the distance, turning away from it, and asking Jesus to be Lord of every area of your life again. Spend time daily in the Word, even starting with the Gospel of John and 1 John, and pray honestly as you would talk to a Father who loves you. Seek fellowship in a Bible believing church where Christ is preached and where you can be supported and held accountable. God is faithful to keep you as you keep drawing near to Him, and we rejoice that you are coming home.

Seeing yourself as a work in progress in His hands can take some of the pressure off while you keep moving toward Him.

Your cry to come back to Jesus again is itself a token of His mercy at work in you. The very desire to return is not from yourself alone, for it is God who puts that longing in the heart and it is God Himself who heals the wandering.
Hear the promise which the Lord speaks to His own, I will heal their backsliding. He does not say, My word shall heal or My minister shall heal, but I will heal. Though you have drifted or been taken or held, He who chose you and bought you with blood is able to restore all that was lost by giving way to evil and to take away the judgments that followed upon it. What a mercy that while backsliding is so grievous a thing, there stands this word of grace over it.
Do not think of repentance as a mere change of mind or as a work you must perfect before you may come to Christ. There is a repentance which is sheer hypocrisy and gives only a rest of conscience that lulls a man to sleep and lets him return to his sin as a dog returns to his vomit. But godly repentance is another thing. It loathes evil because evil is hateful to the heart of Jesus, and it sets the sinner ever afterwards craving after holiness. Such repentance is the gift of God and it is to be preached in the name of Jesus, on His authority and through His grace.
Perhaps you have thought that repentance is a thing to be gotten through at the beginning and then done with, or that you must feel a certain measure of it before you may trust Him. It is not so. Repentance lives as long as faith, and we shall need to believe and to repent as long as we live. Your business now is not to work yourself into feeling by some mechanical means, but to look to Jesus. Picture to yourself the wounded and bleeding side, the crown of thorns, the tears of anguish, and remember that He came not to call the righteous but sinners to repentance. When you see that He loved sinners and gave Himself to be a propitiation for sin, your heart will weep and say, Alas and did my Saviour bleed and did my Sovereign die for me. That looking to Christ begets true repentance.
Consider also the goodness of God which has spared you and preserved you until now. That preservation means He has said to grim death, Spare him, for he is Mine, I intend to save his soul as well as to spare his life. His goodness is meant to lead you to repentance, and if He has taken the trouble to be especially good to you, you may be certain He intends to welcome you if you but come to Him.
Therefore do not stay away until you feel more worthy. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ just as you are. Hang on Him that did hang on the tree. Trust Him now to save you, and trust what the Word says of those who trust Him, that they are forgiven, loved of God and at peace with Him. Do you rejoice in Jesus crucified, do you love Christ, do you trust Him, do you leap for joy at the thought that God has set Him forth to be a propitiation for sin. This is repentance after a godly sort, a repentance that needs not to be repented of and which glorifies God.
I will pray for you that the Lord will grant you such repentance and heal your backsliding fully.

Your longing to come back to Jesus is itself a work of His grace drawing you, and it is a beautiful and right desire that God delights to answer. The Lord does not turn away anyone who comes to Him with a humble and honest heart, no matter how far you feel you have drifted or how long you have been held away.
Hear this good news clearly: repentance is not closed to you. There is no second baptism, but there is true repentance, and it has great power to lift the burden of sin and to restore you even if you have fallen into the depths of wickedness. As Scripture says, does not he who falls rise again, and he who turns away turn back. Christ can be formed in you again if you will lay hold on repentance.
That repentance is more than just feeling regret or shedding tears. Godly sorrow works repentance that leads to salvation and brings no regret. It is a sorrow that condemns sin, turns from it, and hastens to receive forgiveness from Christ. This is different from the sorrow of Esau, who wept but did not truly turn from his path, or of Judas, who felt remorse after his sin was complete but then gave himself over to despair and did not reap the fruit of repentance. Do not let the enemy push you from sorrow into despair. True repentance looks to Jesus and hopes in His mercy, it does not end in hanging the head in hopelessness.
So come back to Him now just as you are. Confess your sins openly to Him, call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, and ask for His forgiveness which He purchased for you. Bring forth fruits that fit repentance by turning away from what pulled you away and walking again in His ways, step by step, with His help.
Let me pray for you:

In the name of Jesus Christ, forgive every sin, wash and sanctify again, and fill this dear one with Your Holy Spirit. Give godly sorrow that leads to life, lift off all shame and despair, and form Christ anew within. Give strength to turn from every chain that has held them and to walk in newness of life, bearing fruit that honors You. Keep them close to You from this day forward and let them know the joy of being restored. Amen.
