Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your honest sharing of these two heavy burdens is received with care and prayer, and we want to bring both before the Lord in a way that honors Him.

For your friend, we hear how much you care for his faith and humility and how painful it is to watch someone you respect walk in a way you believe is harming him. It is right to desire holiness for him and to encourage him to seek God and chase after His heart, and it is right to guard your own heart with that same desire for holiness. When affection grows for someone who is already in a relationship with another person, love is best shown not by asking God to turn his affections toward you, but by entrusting him fully to God and stepping back from pursuing him. We cannot ask God to break apart one relationship so that another may take its place according to our wishes, and we cannot treat prayer as a way to direct another person's heart where we want it to go. The Scriptures call us to singleness of heart and to fear God even when no one is watching, and to set the spiritual good of others above our own desires, even when those desires feel reasonable and urgent.

This also means watching our words about the young woman he is with. Even if you see serious concerns in her life and in their time alone together, which Scripture warns can so easily lead away from chastity and holiness, it is not for us to label her heart or speak with contempt. Marriage is honorable and pure, and God calls all who are unmarried to live in chastity and all who are married to live faithfully, and He calls us to want that holiness for everyone, including those we find difficult. The most loving prayer for your friend, and for her, is that each would walk in truth, flee from what is impure, and follow Christ with a clear conscience, whatever that means for your own hopes. If God wills a future marriage for you, it will come not through carrying another's bag or traveling alone together outside of marriage, and not through hidden persuasion, but through open, patient, pure devotion to Christ first, and then through a clear, mutual, undivided commitment in the Lord. For now, the good and faithful path is to keep a respectful distance, to avoid encouraging any intimate or exclusive communication while he is committed elsewhere, to seek counsel from mature believers around you, and to ask God to make you content and holy whether that future includes him or not.

For your financial needs, the motel stay, the car insurance, the storage bill, and the search for work, God knows what you need for health and for daily life. He does call us to make provision for the flesh for health, but not to fulfill its lusts, and He calls us to diligent, honest work as service done before His sleepless eye, not merely to please people. Your applying for jobs and praying for the right one swiftly is a good and responsible course. Continue in that diligence, in prayer with perseverance, and in wise stewardship of what little you have, trusting that God values your faithfulness in small things and will supply what is needed according to His wisdom. If there are deacons, pastors, or trusted believers nearby, please let them know the practical details of this week so they can help you consider real options for housing and work and not carry this alone.

We will pray with you in this way: Father, in the name of Jesus Christ who alone is our salvation, provide for our sister's daily needs this week, give her wisdom and open doors for honest work, and sustain her in body and soul. Make her steadfast in prayer and pure in heart, and teach her to seek Your kingdom above all else. We pray also for this young man and for the young woman he is with, that each would be drawn to holiness, to chastity, and to wholehearted obedience to You. Lead each of them in Your will, guard all three from sin and from harm, and let Your perfect will be done in every relationship, as You prepare each heart for what You know is best. Give comfort where there is sorrow, and help all to rest in Your goodness and timing. Amen.

Thank you for opening your heart so honestly and for bringing these heavy burdens to prayer. Your love for Jesus and your desire to honor Him, even while carrying financial pressure and deep feelings for someone else, is heard by God.

There is comfort in remembering the story of Job. Scripture pulls back the curtain to show something Job himself could not see. God had spoken well of Job in heaven, and the adversary had been studying him, arguing that Job only served God because God had blessed him and placed a hedge around him. The adversary believed if the blessings were removed, the faith would fail. God allowed testing, not because He had forsaken Job, but because love that is real must involve choice. God created people to be objects of His love and to freely return love to Him. For love to be meaningful it cannot be forced. He allows the freedom to choose, knowing many will choose wrongly, yet cherishing those who choose to love and follow Him. Even when everything was taken and Job sat in pain and confusion, God was still at work.

That truth speaks to both of your requests.

In your financial need, the loss of security, the motel stay, the insurance and storage bills, and the search for work, you may feel as Job did when his possessions were suddenly gone and his friends could not explain why. It can feel as if God is distant. Yet the same God who saw Job in his suffering sees you now. He knows what you need for daily provision. Continue to seek Him first, to be faithful in the practical steps of applying for work and stewarding what you have, and to ask Him for open doors. He is able to provide, and He often works in ways we do not understand at the time, using even hardship to draw us closer and to show His faithfulness.

In your feelings for your friend, it is good that you have encouraged him to seek God and to pursue God’s heart rather than taking advantage of his vulnerability. That is a loving and godly impulse. At the same time, it is important to surrender this relationship fully to the Lord and to respect the freedom God gives each person to choose. Love cannot be compelled by prayer as if God would override another person’s will to direct his affection toward you. To pray that God would break another relationship so that he will look at you in a romantic way is to ask God to steer his heart for your desired outcome, rather than to seek God’s will for his life.

It is also wise to guard your own heart against judging his current girlfriend. Job’s friends thought they understood his situation and spoke harshly, calling him a hypocrite and assuming evil in him, but God later corrected them. They were miserable comforters because they spoke from assumption rather than knowledge. Only God knows the heart of another person. Even if you have concerns about whether that relationship is equally yoked or honoring to God, and Scripture does teach that believers should not be unequally yoked and that purity and faithfulness belong within marriage between one man and one woman, the way to love your friend is to pray for his walk with Christ in general, for wisdom and holiness and clarity, and to leave the outcome in God’s hands.

That also means not pursuing a man who is already in a relationship, traveling alone together and carrying a level of intimacy that belongs only within marriage. The most loving thing you can do is to step back, maintain clear boundaries, and not place yourself in a position where you are hoping he will leave her for you. If God intends marriage for you, it will be a lifelong covenant entered into freely by both, not born from pressure or divided loyalties. Ask God to shape your own heart to want His will more than any particular outcome, and to give you peace whether His answer is yes, no, or wait.

God understands what it is to love people who make painful choices, and He understands your tears. Bring your financial needs and your affection for this man to Jesus honestly, but with open hands. Pray something like this, that the Lord’s will be done in both areas, that He would provide for your daily needs, guide you to the right work, grant you wisdom and stability, and that He would draw your friend closer to Himself, help him walk in truth and purity, and lead both of you into the future He has chosen.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I lift up this dear one to You. You see the bills and the uncertainty of housing and work. Provide as only You can, open the right door for employment, and give peace and provision day by day. Guard her heart in this season of waiting. Help her to love You above all, to trust Your goodness even when Your ways are not understood, and to respect the freedom You give each person to choose You. Draw her friend to Yourself, establish him in faithfulness and wisdom, and lead both of them according to Your perfect will. Let Your love which surpasses knowledge be her comfort and her guide. Amen.

May the Lord strengthen you as you walk in His love and experience His Spirit working in your life, and may you find rest in knowing that He is working even when it feels as though He is far away.

We thank you for giving us the privilege to pray on your behalf. We are glad that you asked us to stand in agreement with you in prayer. We have continued to lift up both of the burdens you shared, your need for financial provision and your deep care for your friend.

We have been praying for the Lord to provide for your car insurance and storage bills and for your motel stay, and for open doors as you have applied for new jobs. We ask God to show Himself as your provider and to grant you peace as you wait on Him. We claim the promise of Phil 4:19 that God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

We have also been praying for your heart for your friend, for the grace and humility and love for Jesus Christ that you have seen in him, and for your desire for a marriage that honors God. We have prayed with you concerning his current relationship that you feel is unequally yoked and is hindering his walk, and that has caused you much hurt. We pray that the Lord will break any unhealthy soul ties, draw him closer to Himself, and give him wisdom and discernment to pursue purity and the will of God for his life. We also pray that the Lord will work in your heart and in his heart regarding the encouraging message you sent, and that if it is the will of God, He will make His direction clear to you both. We trust in Prov 3:5 and 2 Cor 6:14 as we ask for wisdom and for God to guide you both into His perfect will.

If your request has been answered, please post a praise report and let us all know how God has provided. If your request does not seem to have been answered yet, please post it again as a new request and allow us to continue with you in prayer. May God bless you as you continue to seek him through his son, Jesus Christ. We pray all of this in Jesus Name, Amen.
