I lift up my enemies to the Lord

Dear God, I come to you full of overwhelming sorrow and anguish; my heart is heavy, my weight is great. I echo Psalm 59 of David for it feels my enemies are constantly after me. Enemies closer to home than I ever imagined. How long will they be after me? How long will unjustified conversations about me continue? How long will I be both cast out and got at by them? How long will I feel an outsider in my own home, my own life? How long will I, who has not attacked nor hurt them, continue to suffer this injustice? This coldness? This rejection? This persecution? But you Lord see all and love all, and you asked us to pray for our enemies, and I did not for I did not understand. But what could be better than if my enemies turned to you, if they followed you, if their eyes were opened and hearts softened. For your way is always the best way. So Lord I await your timing, your way. I ask for protection, please send your angels to watch over my family and home, in the loving name of your son, Jesus Christ, I lift up my heart, my sorrow, my bitterness to you, and I lift up my enemies to you; please let your angels guide my thoughts, feelings and tongue while I wait for you, Oh Lord. My the Holy Spirit grant wisdom and comfort. In Jesus name, Amen

We hear the heaviness in your heart and we join you before the throne of grace, for you have poured out deep sorrow and anguish as one who feels hunted even within your own home. We stand with you in this place of feeling cast out and spoken against without cause, and we thank God that you have turned not to bitterness alone but to obedience in lifting up those who have hurt you. That is the very heart of our Lord who said in Matthew 5:44 love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you, and in Luke 6:28 bless those who curse you, and pray for those who mistreat you.

The Lord indeed sees all and knows the injustice, the coldness, the rejection and the persecution you describe. He is near to the brokenhearted as Psalm 34:18 reminds us, Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Like David in Psalm 59:1 who cried deliver me from my enemies, my God, set me on high from those who rise up against me, we too cry for your deliverance. God is your strong tower and refuge, for Psalm 46:1 says God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble, and Psalm 61:2 says when my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I. We take comfort that vengeance does not belong to us, for Romans 12:19 says vengeance belongs to me, I will repay, says the Lord, and Romans 12:21 tells us do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Your desire that your enemies eyes would be opened and hearts softened is precious to God, for He desires all to come to repentance as in 2 Peter 3:9 and Ezekiel 33:11.

We also gently encourage you to release the bitterness you lifted up, for while sorrow is natural, bitterness if held can take root and defile. Hebrews 12:15 warns to watch lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and Ephesians 4:31 says let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander, be put away from you, with all malice, and Ephesians 4:32 calls us to be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. To lift bitterness to Him means to lay it down at His feet and ask Him to replace it with His peace, for 1 Peter 5:7 says casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you, and Philippians 4:7 promises the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. We also join you in asking for wisdom and for guard over your tongue while you wait, for James 1:5 says if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him, and Psalm 141:3 says set a watch, Yahweh, before my mouth, keep the door of my lips.

We pray together now.

Father, we come before you together in the loving name of your Son Jesus Christ, and we thank you that it is only through His name we have access to your throne and that there is no other name by which we are saved. We lift up this dear one whose heart is heavy and overwhelmed, who feels like an outsider in their own home and life, who endures unjust words and cold rejection without having attacked or hurt those who rise against them. Lord, you see every conversation, every wound, every tear, and we ask you to be their refuge and high tower. Lead them to the rock that is higher than they are and renew their strength as they wait for you, for Isaiah 40:31 says those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength, and Psalm 27:14 says wait for Yahweh, be strong, and let your heart take courage, yes, wait for Yahweh.

We ask for your protection over their family and home, and we ask that you will give your angels charge over them as Psalm 91:11 says for he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways, and that 2 Thessalonians 3:3 says the Lord is faithful, who will establish you and guard you from the evil one. Guide their thoughts, feelings and tongue by your Holy Spirit, grant them wisdom and comfort as the Comforter whom you promised in John 14:26, and guard their heart from bitterness. Soften the hearts of those who have set themselves as enemies, open their eyes to your truth, draw them to repentance and faith in Jesus, for your way is always the best way, and let reconciliation and peace reign where there has been strife if it be your will. Let your will be done in your perfect timing. We cast all this sorrow and this burden upon you, trusting you to act justly and mercifully. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.

We hear the weight in your words and the ache of feeling like an outsider in your own home. To be spoken about unjustly and met with coldness where you should feel safest is deeply lonely, and it makes sense your heart feels heavy and sorrowful.

What you are doing in praying for those who have hurt you is both beautiful and very hard, especially when the hurt is close and ongoing. One thing that has helped others is understanding that choosing to pray for and release someone, and finding emotional peace about it, often happen on different timelines. You can make a sincere decision to let go of revenge and to want good for them, even while feelings of bitterness, fear or sorrow still rise and fall day to day. That emotional side usually softens slowly, not all at once, as you keep turning the hurt over to God.

You do not have to carry this waiting alone. Worship and simply being with God's people can gently lift some of that isolation, reminding you that you belong to a larger family even when home feels lonely. If you have one trusted pastor, friend, or small group, consider letting them sit with you in this season, not to fix it but to pray with you and help guard your thoughts and words while you wait on the Lord.

Father, we lift this dear one and their family to You. Place Your protection around their home, quiet their sorrow with Your comfort, and guide their thoughts and tongue with wisdom. Soften every heart involved and draw each one closer to You. Give steady hope as they wait for Your timing, in Jesus' name, Amen.

Hello friend. I pray for miracles, blessings and breakthroughs to touch your body, mind and spirit. I ask that God provides for you favorably and leads you to the path of peace, serenity, certainty. Sending you love and light. Amen

There is a truly Christian temper in your prayer, for you have done what our Lord commands and have carried your enemies to the mercy seat. When the heart is heavy and the weight is great, when you feel as David did in Psalm 59, hunted and spoken against without cause, cast out and yet still pursued, the only safe refuge is prayer. You have done well to lift up not only your sorrow and your bitterness, but those very persons who have caused it.

Do not think that the Lord is as one who merely lodges for a night and takes little interest in the sorrows of the house. He is your Father and your dwelling place, and He sees all. Whatever has been done against you in rage or in coldness, God has always met it calmly and quietly, and He is ready for every emergency. Be assured that His mercy endureth for ever, and He will not forsake the works of His own hands. If you can say even of your crust, it is my own in Christ, you may eat it with a grateful heart, for His mercy cannot be tried beyond its endurance.

You ask how long, and that question is the language of waiting faith. It is ours to pray and it is the Lord's to answer in His own time. He often reserves the petition for a season for the further trial of our faith. The answer is labeled for you and set aside in the treasury, and you are waiting till the time comes when you may safely receive that which is yours even now. Look for the answer. Honor the mercy seat and be businesslike in your pleading, asking for distinct mercies with an earnest heart that cannot be satisfied without a token for good.

And in this waiting, pray in the Holy Spirit. He helps our infirmities and teaches us what we should pray for as we ought, making intercession in us according to the will of God. He never puffs us up with pride, but leads us to pray humbly. You have asked Him to guide your thoughts and feelings and tongue, and that is a wise petition. We must pray and set a watch. As Nehemiah's people prayed unto God and set a watch against their adversaries, so you must guard with jealous care your own spirit, that no bitterness take root, and that your tongue speak only what the Spirit directs. Let your sense of the poverty of your prayers lead you to abhor your faults, but not to abhor praying.

There must be no reliance upon arguments based upon your own excellence or innocence, though you have not attacked nor hurt them. We must beg for grace and plead for mercy, for upon no other terms can the Lord meet with us. Plead His name, for He has a name for pardoning iniquity. Say with David, for thy name's sake, O Lord, pardon my iniquity, for it is great. And plead that same name for your enemies, that their eyes may be opened and their hearts softened, that they may be turned to Christ. For salvation is in Jesus Christ alone, and apart from Him there is nothing for us but destruction. What could be better than that they should follow Him, for His way is always the best way.

Persecution, even such little oppositions as we meet with in our own homes, is permitted for our good. It is overruled to make us feel that this is not our rest, and to cause us to long for the better land, the land of liberty and joy. It ought never to be, while there are sinners in this world, that the Christian escapes opposition. Your trial may be the very means by which God blesses you and makes you to prosper under it.

So I will pray with you and for you. May the Lord send His angels to watch over your family and your home, for He gives His angels charge over His people. May the Holy Spirit grant you wisdom and comfort while you wait, and keep you in undisturbed devotion. May He lead you as one of the sons of God, for as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. And may your enemies be brought to know that same mercy which you have found, that they may with you delight themselves in the fatness of His grace, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
