I hate God and God hates me

We hear the depth of your pain, and our hearts ache with you. What you're feeling is raw, real, and heavy, so heavy that it’s hard to see anything beyond it right now. But we want you to know this: even in your anger, even in your despair, even if you don’t feel it, God has not turned His back on you. The Bible tells us, "The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit" (Psalm 34:18 WEB). That means He is near to you, even now, even when you can’t sense Him.

You say you hate God, and that God hates you. But Scripture is clear: "God is love" (1 John 4:8 WEB), and "while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8 WEB). That means God loved you before you ever loved Him. He didn’t wait for you to be perfect or happy or full of faith. He loved you in your brokenness. And love doesn’t hate. Love pursues. Love waits. Love weeps with those who weep.

We don’t know what has happened in your life, but we know it must be unbearable for you to feel this way. Maybe you’ve lost someone you loved deeply. Maybe you’ve been betrayed, abandoned, or hurt in ways no one should ever have to endure. Maybe you’ve carried shame or guilt that feels too heavy to lift. Whatever it is, it’s real. And God sees it. He sees you. And He is not indifferent.

But we must also speak truth, even when it’s hard. You are not an accident. You were not a mistake. "For you formed my inward parts. You knit me together in my mother’s womb. I will give thanks to you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:13-14 WEB). God did not create you to suffer without purpose. He created you for relationship, with Him, and with others who reflect His love. And though life has brought you to a place of deep despair, that does not mean your story is over.

We want to gently challenge something you’ve said: God does not hate you. But we must also ask, have you ever truly known Him? Not just known about Him, but known Him as Savior, as Father, as the One who bore your sins on the cross so you could be free? Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28 WEB). That invitation is for you. Even now. Even in your anger. Even in your pain.

And if you’ve never truly surrendered your life to Christ, then we must share this with you: salvation comes only through Jesus. "For there is no other name under heaven, given among men, by which we must be saved" (Acts 4:12 WEB). Not religion. Not good works. Not trying harder. Only Jesus. He is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6 WEB). And He is reaching out to you, even now.

So we come before the Lord on your behalf, broken for your brokenness, and we pray:

Heavenly Father, we lift up this precious soul to You. We don’t know the depth of their pain, but You do. You know every wound, every tear, every moment of despair. Lord, we ask that You would break through the darkness with Your light. Where there is anger, bring peace. Where there is bitterness, bring healing. Where there is hopelessness, remind them that You are the God of hope (Romans 15:13 WEB).

Father, we pray that You would reveal Yourself to them, not as a distant judge, but as a loving Father who runs to meet the prodigal, who binds up the brokenhearted, who collects every tear in a bottle (Psalm 56:8 WEB). Help them to see that You are not against them, but for them. That You are not far off, but near.

Lord, if they have never truly known You, we pray that today would be the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2 WEB). Soften their heart. Open their eyes. Let them hear Your voice calling them by name. And if they have walked away from You, we pray that You would draw them back with cords of love (Hosea 11:4 WEB).

We ask that You would surround them with people who will love them well, people who will point them to You, who will walk with them through this valley, who will remind them that they are not alone. And Lord, we pray for healing. Not just a bandage over the pain, but deep, lasting healing that only You can bring.

We rebuke the lies of the enemy that tell them they are unloved, unwanted, or beyond hope. We declare that in Christ, they are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17 WEB). We declare that their life has purpose, that their pain has meaning, and that their future is held in Your hands.

And Lord, if they are struggling with thoughts of ending their life, we ask that You would intervene. Send help. Send hope. Send a reason to keep going. Remind them that You are the God who sees, the God who hears, and the God who saves.

We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the One who conquered sin and death so that we might have life, and have it abundantly (John 10:10 WEB). Amen.

Friend, we don’t say any of this lightly. We know your pain is real. But we also know that God’s love is real, and it’s bigger than your pain. You are not forgotten. You are not abandoned. You are seen. And you are loved.

If you’re willing, we’d encourage you to reach out to someone you trust, a pastor, a counselor, a friend who loves Jesus. You don’t have to carry this alone. And if you’re open to it, we’d invite you to simply cry out to God, even if it’s just, "God, I don’t know if You’re real, but if You are, show me." He will answer that prayer. He always does.

And if you’ve never truly given your life to Christ, we’d urge you to consider doing so today. It’s not about religion. It’s about relationship. It’s about surrendering your pain, your anger, your life to the One who loves you more than you can imagine. The Bible says, "If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9 WEB). That’s it. No performance. No perfection. Just surrender.

You are not beyond hope. You are not beyond love. And you are not beyond redemption. God is still writing your story, and He is not done with you yet.

We hear the pain in your words, and we want you to know you are not alone in this moment. If you are in immediate danger, please contact your local emergency services right now. For free, confidential support, you can find a helpline in your country at findahelpline.com. Trained people are ready to listen, reach out, right now.

It is heartbreaking to hear you say you hate God and believe He hates you. When life has piled on so much hurt, hopelessness can settle in so deeply that it feels like even God has turned against you. That sense of being hated, it’s a crushing weight, but it isn’t the whole truth. Despair has a way of twisting our thoughts until we’re convinced there’s no way out, that even the God who made us has written us off. But the feelings lie, and they don’t have to have the final word.

We encourage you to take one concrete step today. Call that helpline, or if you can, go to an emergency room or tell a trusted friend or pastor exactly what you’ve shared here. You do not have to wrestle this alone. If you haven’t already, speaking with a doctor or a counselor can be a vital part of recovering solid ground, not instead of prayer, but alongside it. Depression and despair are treatable, and there is help.

God, in this darkness, reach through and make Yourself felt. Calm the storm inside, even when no calm seems possible. Hold this person securely, and silence the lies that shout of hatred and rejection. Bring someone gentle and wise into their life today, and give them the courage to cry out for help. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your cry of hatred and despair rises up from a wounded heart, but it is not the voice of truth. The heart in its anguish often speaks against the very God who holds it in being, yet He does not answer in kind. The feeling that God hates you is a dark mist from the pit, for the Eternal One does not hate those for whom His Son wept blood. Even in the depths, Christ’s cry, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” was not the abandonment of the Father, but the necessary consequence of sin laid upon Him for us. He was forsaken that you might never be. The promise stands five times over: “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” It is not a promise for the sinless, but for sinners who have truly trusted in Him, and often for such who are full of sin, as we were when He first embraced our persons.

Your wish to never have been born echoes that fearful word: it would have been better never to have known the way of life than, after all, to be deserted of God and left to perish. But hear this now: that can never be the portion of anyone who has truly trusted in Him. The straight road to Hell would only open before you if you were utterly forsaken, and He has said, “I never will leave you.” If He has begun a good work in your soul, you will not live as you list, but you will be kept. You feel hatred for God? Yet He knows the honesty of that confession better than the smooth words of those who feign devotion. Lay bare your conscience before Him; accuse yourself, and do not look at circumstances to find an alleviation. Deal with things as they are, God always does. The very fact that you speak thus, even in bitterness, is a sign you are not cast away. A child receiving the rod may foolishly cry, “My father has forgotten me,” but the strokes themselves prove his nearness.

The Star of Bethlehem has never set. Unto you is born a Saviour, Christ the Lord, good tidings of great joy. This joy is pure and holy, not because your heart is free from sin, but because the Babe of the manger bore that sin in His body on the tree. He did not stay in the cradle; He went to the cross for such as you. Therefore I do not bid you to try to love God in your own strength, but to look to Him who first loved us. Where you see only wrath, there is infinite love. Your own sense of estrangement is the very ground where faith can sprout, for it is only by faith that we can recognize God at all. Without faith it is impossible to please Him, but even a weak, trembling faith that cries, “Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief,” is precious. You think you have no faith? Yet you are speaking to Him, even in anger. The man of God alone with God declares his ways, and He hears. Tell Him all, without reserve. He is the God that performeth all things for you, even this dark hour.

You say so much has happened, and I do not doubt that sorrow upon sorrow has been heaped upon you. The enemies of your soul have plowed long furrows on your back, as the psalmist knew. But the Church of God has often been preserved by persecution; she was never truer than when in the fire. And you, if you are His, are born of the freewoman, not of the bondwoman, not under the covenant of works, but of grace. Sin cannot be a cause for Him to cast you away, for you were full of sin when He first set His love upon you. Jacob, with all his self-made trials, was never deserted. The very thing most to be feared by any man can never happen to a believer. Despair of holding on yourself; that despair is healthy if it drives you to the hands of Jesus. All His people are in those hands, and in those hands they shall be forever.

Taste and see that the Lord is good. You have tasted bitterness; now open your mouth wide, and He will fill it with something better. The key-note of the gospel is joy, fear not. The angelic word silences every fear. May the Spirit who has striven with you, even when you resisted, now win the day and give you rest in the finished work of Christ. God grant you grace to keep to grace, and faith enough to live by faith, even to the end, as a freeborn child of God. You are not forsaken. You are engraven on the palms of His hands.

Your words are the cry of a soul in deep darkness, but do not mistake the darkness for the light. God does not hate you. He who makes the sun rise on the evil and the good, who sends rain on the just and the unjust, does not hate. He is love, and love is patient, kind, not easily provoked. The hatred you feel rising in your heart toward Him is a wound, not the truth. Even now, He endures with much long-suffering, willing to lead you to repentance.

You wish you had never been born, yet Christ died and rose again for you, who are now living. Remember that Jesus Christ, of the seed of David, was raised from the dead. He overcame death by suffering, and in His suffering, He showed the immensity of God’s love for mankind. Do not be ashamed of that love or think it cannot reach you. The benefits God has given are beyond our understanding; He condescended to save sinners, not the righteous.

You say God hates you, but consider: does the potter hate the clay, or does he reshape it? God is the God of patience and consolation. He endures for a long time, even when we rage, to bring us back. Pharaoh was a vessel of wrath, fitted for destruction by his own hard-heartedness, yet God endured him with much long-suffering. How much more will He show mercy to a soul that cries out, even in anguish? Let no one in vice despair. Often the harlot passes by the one who is confident. Turn to Him, and He will not remember the former things. He does not reproach as humans do; He does not say, “Why were you absent so long?” Only approach Him earnestly, and rivet your heart to His fear.

I know you feel as if you are unlovable, but love for God’s sake loves all, even enemies. We are like God when we love all, not when we work miracles. If God can love His enemies, He certainly loves you, who are made in His image, even if you now see yourself as an enemy. The hatred you feel is a thorn; let love, the good husbandman, pull it out. Do not allow the devil to drive you to despair, for despair is a greater sin than the ones that brought you here. Every day, though we sin, let us approach God, entreating, beseeching, asking forgiveness. Thus we become more backward to sin, and we drive away the enemy.

Cleanse yourself from all defilement, not in vainglory, but in the fear of God. You are meant to be a temple of the living God, a dwelling place for Him who walks in those who love Him. The very hatred you feel can be a sign that something holy in you is crying out against the ruin. Do not let it consume you; let it drive you to the feet of the One who suffered for you. His heart is enlarged with love; will you not let Him in? He does not despise a broken spirit. Turn, and you will find that He has been waiting with open arms, ready to show the riches of His mercy.

The words you’ve written are raw and heavy, and they come from a place of deep pain. I hear you. So much has happened that life itself feels unbearable, and you wish you had never drawn breath. That cry is not new to the pages of Scripture. Job sat in ashes, scraping his sores, and begged that the day of his birth be blotted off the calendar. He asked, “Why is light given to a man whose way is hid, whom God has hedged in?” He could not see any purpose. He felt God was against him, crushing him without cause. You are not alone in those desperate thoughts.

But Job’s feelings, and yours, do not tell the whole truth about God. There is a difference between how things feel and what God has actually revealed about Himself. God does not pervert justice. He is not unfair. He does not hate you. The very fact that you are still breathing, still able to cry out, is evidence that He has not cut you off. When we think God hates us, we are charging Him foolishly, letting our suffering shape our understanding of His heart instead of letting His Word shape it. The truth is that God loved you even when you were at enmity with Him. He did not wait for you to become lovable or religious or put together. While you were still a sinner, Christ died for you. That is how much He treasures you. You may feel worthless, but God calls His people His own inheritance. If you could grasp how precious you are to Him, you would never treat yourself cheaply again.

I know that right now you might feel you hate God too. That hatred often grows from trying to earn His approval and failing, or from believing He demands a righteousness you could never produce. That is exactly what the law does: it condemns, it exposes sin, it leaves us with no pride and no self-rescue. That is a hard mercy. God allows us to come to the end of ourselves so that we stop looking inward for a reason to be loved. The answer is not in our works, our sweetness, our temper, or our generosity. It is in Jesus Christ alone. He gives us a righteous standing before God that we could never create. And when we are joined to Him, the despair that says “Who will deliver me?” is answered by a cry of thanks through our Lord. He has delivered us.

You wish you were never born, and I won’t minimize that. But the very fact that God permitted your birth, that He kept you from dying in the womb, means He has a purpose for your life. Right now that purpose feels hidden, even cruel, but you are not an accident of fate. You are not a mistake. He fashioned you together, and He will not simply bring you to dust without redemption. The suffering that clouds your vision now does not mean He has abandoned you. It often means He is at work in ways you cannot see, and some of the most beautiful fruit of the Spirit grows only in the soil of pain. It is not that He is angry and vindictive. It is that He loves you enough to correct, to shape, to draw you to Himself. Happy is the one God corrects, for it marks you as His child.

Pour out your complaint to Him, just as Job did. Tell Him you feel condemned, that life is bitter, that you want to be cut off. He can handle your honesty. But let me plead with you in the meantime: do not harden yourself in sorrow. Do not accept the lie that He is against you. If God is for you, nothing can be against you, no charge can stick, no condemnation can stand. It is foolish to fight God, because fighting Him means fighting the very best for your own life. Rest instead in this: He knows the truth about you, and in Christ, the truth is that you are justified, loved, and destined for glory. The hope of our calling is so bright that if you truly saw it, death would lose its terror and life would regain its meaning.

You are in a dark place, but the darkness is not the end. Even that despair can become a doorway to grace once you stop trying to make God love you and simply receive the love He has already shown in Jesus. You don’t have to be good enough. You can’t be. But Christ is good enough, and He stands in your place. Take your eyes off yourself and put them on Him. God is at work in this mess, even though you cannot trace His hand. Yield to Him, and you will one day look back and see that He caused you to triumph through Christ. That day, your bitterness will be swallowed up in praise.

We want to thank you for the honesty and vulnerability it took to share such a heavy burden with us. It is a sacred privilege to stand in the gap with you in prayer during this time of deep struggle and pain. We have been lifting your words before the Lord, asking Him to draw near to you in ways that only He can—to reveal His love, His mercy, and His presence even in the midst of feelings that may make Him feel distant.

We know that the weight of these emotions is real, and we have prayed for the Holy Spirit to comfort you, to remind you of truth when lies feel overwhelming, and to soften your heart toward the One who loves you more than you can yet comprehend. We’ve asked God to meet you in your anger, your despair, and your questions—not with condemnation, but with the same grace He extended to Job, to David, and to so many others who cried out in their pain.

If in these days you’ve sensed even a glimmer of His nearness, a moment of unexpected peace, or a shift in your heart, we would be so encouraged to hear about it. Your praise report could be a light to others walking through similar darkness. But if the heaviness remains, if the anger still burns, or if the silence from God feels louder than ever, please don’t carry it alone. Post this request again, and let us continue to intercede for you. We believe that God is at work, even when we can’t see it, and we won’t stop praying for His healing and restoration in your life.

May the Lord bless you with His presence, surround you with His peace, and remind you that you are seen, you are known, and you are deeply loved. We continue to pray for you in the powerful name of Jesus. Amen.
