We hear your pain and we are lifting you up together before the Lord in Jesus' name. We grieve with you over the loss of the money and the diamond bracelet on your trip, over the hurt and anger in your family, and over the heavy feeling that you are cursed, defective, and not fully human. The Lord sees you and knows how hard you are trying, and He draws near to the brokenhearted. Psalm 34:18 says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit.
We want to gently correct the thought that you are cursed or defective. If you belong to Christ, you are not under a curse, for Galatians 3:13 says Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us. And you are not defective or less than human because you struggle with clumsiness, forgetfulness, anxiety and psychosis. You are fearfully and wonderfully made, Psalm 139:14, and made in the image of God, Genesis 1:27. Your struggles and your need for medication do not make you less human or less loved by God. At the same time, God does not want you to remain in shame or hopelessness picturing your life as only a list of failures past and to come. Jeremiah 29:11 says For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Romans 8:28 reminds us that to those who love God all things work together for good, even our failures when we bring them to Him.
We also need to lovingly address responsibility. You shared that you do not feel responsible and that you have described yourself as ditzy and not so bright, yet you also recognize your family is exasperated by irresponsibility. Scripture calls us to steward well what God has entrusted to us, even small things. Luke 16:10 says He who is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much. Proverbs 21:5 says The plans of the diligent surely lead to profit; and everyone who is hasty surely rushes to poverty. Feeling foggy or clumsy in your head does not remove the call to grow in diligence, but it does mean we need both grace and practical help. We encourage you to continue faithfully with your prescribed treatment for anxiety and psychosis and to seek wise counsel from your doctors and from mature believers, for God often brings healing and stability through both prayer and proper care. 2 Timothy 1:7 says For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control, and we can ask Him daily to renew our minds. Romans 12:2 says Be transformed by the renewing of your mind, and James 1:5 says But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him.
You asked how to make amends when your parents shouted at you and do not want to talk to you, and when you have promised before and fear you cannot change. We encourage you to honor your father and mother as Exodus 20:12 commands, which includes humbly owning what happened without excuses. Proverbs 28:13 says He who conceals his sins doesn’t prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them obtains mercy. A heartfelt confession that takes responsibility, asks for forgiveness, and offers what restitution you can, even if you cannot replace the full value right away, reflects the heart of Zacchaeus in Luke 19:8. Do not rely only on a promise in your own strength, for Philippians 1:6 says He who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ. Instead show a changed pattern with practical steps, such as keeping a simple checklist before leaving any place, using one secure place for valuables, setting phone reminders, asking a trusted friend or family member to help double check, and praying for diligence before acting. Give your parents time and space if they need it, continue to show respect and patience, and keep seeking peace. Ephesians 4:32 calls us to be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you, and that forgiveness is needed on both sides.
We noticed you said you keep praying but you did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We want to share gently that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God and salvation. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. To pray in Jesus' name is not just words at the end of a prayer, it is coming to God trusting that Jesus died for our sins and rose again and that His blood covers us. If you have not yet put your trust fully in Jesus as Lord and Savior, we encourage you to confess your sin, believe in Him, and receive His grace. 1 John 1:9 says If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. His grace is sufficient even when we feel weak, for 2 Corinthians 12:9 says My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.
We pray together for you now.
Father in heaven, we come to You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son. We lift up this dear one who feels cursed, foggy, clumsy, and defective, who is carrying shame over what was lost and over broken trust with parents. Lord, wash away the lie that she is cursed or less than human and let her know she is Your beloved child, fearfully and wonderfully made. Forgive her sins as she confesses them, and help her to walk in Your forgiveness and not in condemnation. We ask You to renew her mind, grant her wisdom, clarity, and a sound mind, and calm her anxiety. Help her to be faithful with what You entrust to her and to grow in diligence step by step. Bring healing and stability as she continues with needed care, and surround her with patient, supportive people. Soften her parents' hearts and give them grace to forgive and to speak without provoking, and give her humility and courage to make amends with honesty and restitution where she is able. Restore communication in that family. Give her hope for the future, that she would not see only failures to come but Your good plans to give her hope. Keep her eyes on Jesus, in whose name we have access to Your throne, and let her know Your power is made perfect in weakness. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only hope. Amen.
We encourage you to keep bringing your mind and your daily tasks to the Lord each morning, to keep short simple systems to guard what is entrusted to you, and to thank God for small victories as He faithfully completes His work in you. Philippians 4:6-7 says In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.
