I don't want to be depressed and crazy

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I don't want to be constantly depressed and anxious. I thought it would get better when Jesus saved me but it didn't. I'm still suffering every day and I don't want to. I don't want to be constantly depressed and suffer from anxiety attacks. Please pray for my freedom.

We hear the deep anguish in your words, and our hearts ache with you in this struggle. You are not alone in this battle, and we stand with you before the throne of grace, lifting your cries to the One who sees, knows, and cares for you intimately. The pain of depression and anxiety is very real, and it’s understandable that you feel weary when the weight of it doesn’t seem to lift, even after coming to faith in Christ. But we want to remind you, your feelings do not define your reality in Him. Jesus promised, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28 WEB). He is not distant from your suffering; He walks through it with you, even when you can’t feel His presence.

First, we must gently rebuke the lie that your salvation should have instantly erased all struggle. The Bible never promises a life free from pain or hardship, even for believers. In fact, Jesus told us, "In the world you have oppression; but cheer up! I have overcome the world" (John 16:33 WEB). Your salvation secured your eternity, but it did not remove you from a fallen world where suffering exists. However, it did give you access to the power of the Holy Spirit, who is your Comforter, Advocate, and Strength in weakness. The apostle Paul himself pleaded with the Lord three times to remove his "thorn in the flesh," and God’s response was not removal but sufficiency: "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness" (2 Corinthians 12:9 WEB). Your weakness is not a sign of God’s absence; it is the very place where His power can rest upon you.

We also want to encourage you to bring this burden to the Lord daily, not just in prayer, but in surrender. Depression and anxiety can make it feel like you’re drowning in your own mind, but Jesus is the One who calms the storms. The psalmist cried out, "Why are you in despair, my soul? Why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God! For I shall still praise him, the saving help of my countenance" (Psalm 42:5 WEB). Even when your soul feels hopeless, you can choose to praise Him, not because you feel like it, but because He is worthy. Worship is a weapon against despair.

We must also address the practical steps you can take. The Bible tells us, "Don’t be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:6-7 WEB). Have you sought godly counsel, such as a pastor or a biblical counselor who can walk with you through this? Have you considered whether there are physical or medical factors contributing to your struggle? The body and spirit are connected, and sometimes the Lord uses doctors, medicine, or therapy as part of His healing. There is no shame in seeking help, it is an act of wisdom and stewardship over the life God has given you.

And finally, we want to rebuke the spirit of isolation that so often accompanies depression. You are not meant to carry this alone. The enemy wants you to believe you’re forgotten, but the Lord says, "I will never leave you nor forsake you" (Hebrews 13:5 WEB). We urge you to reach out to your church community, to trusted believers who can pray with you, listen to you, and remind you of God’s truth when the lies feel overwhelming. You are seen. You are loved. And your struggle does not disqualify you from God’s purpose for your life.

Let us pray for you now:

"Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our dear brother/sister, lifting up their heavy heart to You. Lord, You are the God who sees, the God who hears, and the God who heals. We ask that You would break the chains of depression and anxiety that have bound them for so long. Fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, guarding their heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Remind them in the darkest moments that You are their light, their hope, and their strength. We rebuke the lies of the enemy that tell them they are alone, that their suffering is meaningless, or that You have abandoned them. Your Word says that You are near to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). So we declare that truth over them now.

Father, we ask that You would reveal any areas where bitterness, unforgiveness, or unconfessed sin may be contributing to their struggle. If there are strongholds in their mind, we ask that You would tear them down by the power of Your Spirit. Renew their mind with Your Word, and help them to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). We pray for practical help, wise counselors, doctors, or therapists who can come alongside them with godly wisdom. And Lord, if there is a need for medical intervention, we ask that You would guide their steps to the right resources.

Most of all, we pray that they would experience Your presence in a tangible way. When they feel numb or distant, remind them that You are holding them, even when they can’t feel Your hands. Help them to cling to Your promises, to worship You in the storm, and to trust that You are working all things together for their good (Romans 8:28). We ask for a breakthrough, Lord, not just in their emotions, but in their faith. Strengthen their trust in You, even when the answers don’t come as quickly as they hope.

We thank You that You are faithful, and that Your mercies are new every morning. We declare that this is not the end of their story, You are writing a testimony of Your goodness and deliverance in their life. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen."

Hold on, dear one. The night may feel long, but joy will come in the morning (Psalm 30:5). Until then, we are here with you, praying and believing for your freedom. You are not forgotten. You are not abandoned. And your struggle is not the final word over your life. Jesus has already overcome the world, and that includes the darkness you’re facing now. Keep fighting. Keep hoping. Keep pressing into Him.

We hear how exhausting this has been, wanting so much to feel free and instead waking up to the same heaviness and anxiety day after day. It makes sense you would feel disappointed that coming to Jesus did not make it all lift right away. That does not mean your faith is failing or that you are crazy. Many followers of Jesus walk with depression and anxiety even while they love Him deeply.

One thing we have seen help is to remember that coming to Christ is like a birth, a real beginning, and learning to walk in freedom is often a slower process of small steps with Him and with others. You do not have to walk it alone.

If you have someone safe to talk with, a pastor, a trusted Christian counselor, or your own doctor, we gently encourage you to reach out and let them walk with you alongside prayer. Having another person who knows your story week by week can make the burden less isolating and help you find steady support.

We are carrying you in prayer.

Father, we bring our friend to You right now. You see every anxious moment and every low day. Bring comfort, steady hope, and wise help around them. Guide them to the support they need and remind them daily that they are held by You. In Jesus name, amen.

I am praying for you. Please know you are not alone as I have gone through the same thing all my life. I continually feel awful each and every moment. May God choose to comfort you and give you peace, in the name of Jesus.

Your cry has been heard, and it is with much tenderness that I have considered it before the Lord. To be constantly depressed and beset with anxiety is a sore trial, and to feel that even after Jesus has saved you the cloud does not lift must make the burden feel heavier still. Yet your very groaning after freedom is itself a prayer which God does not despise.

You must not think that your suffering proves you are cut off from before His eyes. David once said in his haste, I am cut off from before Your eyes, but it was not so. He was cut off from the esteem of men and from the comfort of former friends, but not from God. So it is with you. The wounds of depression and the sharp arrows of anxious thoughts may sorely shoot at you, but you are not forgotten by Him who sees His people even in the depths.

Have you not found that the very anxiety which arises through your being in a difficulty unfits you to meet that difficulty. Anxiety does not strengthen the hands, it weakens them. Spiritual strength, as the light comes from the sun and the shower from heaven, so it comes from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variableness. From thence is the shepherd, the stone of Israel, and He gives strength to His Josephs even when they are sold into bondage and sorely pressed.

Do not, therefore, doubt that He is able to deliver you from this depression of spirit. If He will ransom His people from the power of the grave and redeem them from death, shall He not also redeem from sickness, from slander, from depression of spirit, from despair. He that will bring the body from the grave will also bring the soul up from the pit of trouble, even when you are ready to perish. He delights to work the work of our deliverance.

And blessed be God, that freedom when it comes by Christ is freedom indeed. You may feel yourself a prisoner to your sins and to this heavy infirmity, but if you are in Christ you are a prisoner of hope, within reach of One who sets free from sin. When the Lord sets His people free from the guilt and power of sin, He delivers them from the lash and takes away the spirit of bondage and gives the spirit of liberty. Turn away then from your feebleness to His strength, and from your sense of sinfulness to His blood, the blood of the Covenant which washes black sinners whiter than driven snow.

As long as you live, pray, for while you can pray you cannot perish. You must under no pressure cease from prayer. That prayer which is neither said nor sung, but cried, which drops from the eyes in tears and breaks forth from the lips in moans and groans that cannot be uttered, those prayers which you could not endure for any human ear to hear are among the best of prayers, and God hears them. If all the forces on earth are not sufficient to save His saint, God will send from Heaven and save you from that which would swallow you up.

Let us pray together.

O Lord our God, look in mercy upon this afflicted one who cries for freedom from depression and anxiety. Thou knowest the heaviness of spirit and the terror of restless thoughts. Thou hast not cut off this soul from before Thine eyes, though it feels forsaken. Send from Heaven and save, and lift up from the pit. Ransom from the power of this darkness and give the spirit of liberty in place of the spirit of bondage. Let this dear one know that salvation is in Christ alone, and that His blood is sufficient to cleanse, to keep, and to comfort. Give strength from Thyself, the shepherd and stone of Israel, and grant daily grace to trust Thee, to pray without ceasing, and to find rest in Thy tender love and gracious care. Bring at last, whether speedily or by degrees, that freedom indeed which Christ has purchased, and keep this soul till the eternal Sabbath comes. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your honest cry has been heard, and I want you to know that God does not turn away from it. The pain you describe, the constant depression and anxiety attacks that remain even after you have come to Christ, is a heavy burden, and it is not a sign that Jesus has failed you or that your salvation is not real.

Many who belong to Christ still know fear and anxiety in their hearts. Even those who are faithful feel a shuddering in their conscience and find that they still need to seek God with earnest prayer and humility. Salvation through Jesus Christ alone is the sure foundation, but it does not mean that every struggle ends in a moment. The Lord often leads His people through a wilderness, and in that place we learn to depend on Him more deeply.

One thing the Scriptures and the experience of the Church teach us is that we are not meant to face these attacks alone. When we are isolated and by ourselves, the enemy has greater opportunity to press upon us with fear and despair. There is great need to be flocking together continually, to stay close to other believers, to be in the fellowship of the church, in prayer together, in hearing the Word together. Do not withdraw in your suffering. Bring it into the light with trusted brothers and sisters, with a pastor or mature believer who can walk with you, pray with you, and help carry the load.

God desires to free you from this anxiety and to establish you in thorough security and liberty in Christ. That freedom is not a pretense, but a real work He does in the heart, often little by little, as we learn to cast our cares upon Him. The outward troubles and inward anxieties that can so quickly wither our strength cannot destroy the beauty Christ is forming in you, that ever blooming life which no disease and no desponding anxiety can finally disfigure, because it is rooted in Him.

So I pray for you now.

Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, I lift up this dear one who is weary from daily depression and anxiety. You see every attack, every sleepless night, every moment of fear, and You have not forsaken them. I ask that You would bring freedom and peace, that You would calm the troubled heart and mind, and establish them in Your security and liberty. Teach them to hear the voice of the Bridegroom, to find joy in Your presence, and to know that they are held even when they feel shaken. Surround them with faithful community, give them strength to keep seeking You, and let them experience day by day Your comfort and sustaining grace. Restore hope, grant rest, and let Your perfect love cast out fear. Amen.

Please keep reaching out, keep praying even with simple words when you have no strength, keep hearing the Word of God, and keep staying connected to the body of Christ. God is near to the brokenhearted, and He will not abandon the work He has begun in you.
