We want to assure you that we are not here to replace the Holy Spirit or the personal connection that comes from fellow believers lifting one another up in prayer.
In Scripture, we are called to be discerning, as 1 John 4:1 (WEB) warns: "Beloved, don’t believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world." Your caution is wise, and we encourage you to always seek the Lord’s guidance in all things, including where and how you receive counsel.
We also want to remind you that our ultimate trust is in God alone, not in any tool or method. Proverbs 3:5-6 (WEB) says: "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths." The human heart, in its natural pride, ever stands ready to reject the humbling truth of God. How often have I witnessed it, men and women who cry out against the very means by which the message of salvation might reach them, declaring with bold resolve, “I will not hear it.” Yet consider this: the Gospel was never intended to please man. It comes as an axe to the root of human pride, and when God's servants set forth some humbling doctrine, there are those who say, “We will never assent to that.” They kick against any truth of God which clashes with their prejudices. Such talk betrays the darkness in which a soul is living, the self-deception it is fostering, and the desertion it is provoking.
Though we believe not, yet God’s Gospel is not to be altered to suit human whims and fancies. He abides faithful; He cannot deny Himself. The message of Christ crucified is a savor of life unto life or of death unto death, and it needs no artificial voice to validate its power. The Holy Spirit, who attests the truth by His own sovereign working, blows upon the beauty of human righteousness and makes it wither, so that no earthly power can make us live. Flee, then, from this dangerous posture of refusal, lest by hardening the heart against every channel of truth, you find the Spirit grieved and the face of Jesus hidden. Let no prejudice lock the door against the Word that alone can bring peace.

The Truth is one, and error is various and multiform. Why then do you shun a message before you have tested it? Such avoidance is not from faith but resembles those who hang bells and scarlet wool about the hand, trusting in foolish things rather than the Cross. The protection of the Cross alone is sufficient for the faithful. If what is written speaks according to godliness and the truth which is in Jesus, it cannot harm you, for you have been created in righteousness and holiness of truth. Do not, like those who burst their bellies with excess, gorge on suspicion and fear to the ruin of your soul. Use the tongue given you to sing to God, to read the divine laws, and to give profitable counsel. Do not let it be enslaved to groundless terrors. The Truth Himself said, “Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Let no man waste his talent, saying he can do nothing; even by one talent you may approve yourself if you direct it to the common good and not to private fancies. Reject not a message because of its vessel, but weigh all things against the Word of truth, which is after godliness.

It sounds like your heart is set on guarding what you allow into your mind and spirit, and that desire to be careful is something the Scriptures encourage. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and that fear teaches us to hate evil. But there is another kind of fear, a fear that can come upon us suddenly, trying to unsettle our confidence in God. Proverbs tells us not to be afraid of sudden fear, nor of the desolation of the wicked when it comes, for the Lord will be your confidence and keep your foot from being taken.
When we let fear of anything other than the Lord Himself drive our decisions, we risk being moved away from faith, because fear and faith are mutually exclusive. Remember how Nehemiah recognized that his enemies were trying to strike fear into his heart so he would act out of fear rather than trust. Your safety is not in your own avoidance, but in the One who watches over you. The Song of Songs paints a picture of a bride who knows the voice of her beloved, and she is not swayed by other voices.
