I have a really bad ###. Last time I tried to quit ### I was ### and I knew it was a sin, this must have been what was making me lust. I decided to delete every ### on my computer. Please pray that I don't fall into the state of ### when I am doing this. I also have ### and I am afraid it will get worse.

We hear the struggle in your heart, and we stand with you in prayer, lifting you up before the throne of grace. The battle you’re facing against lust and temptation is real, and it’s clear you recognize the spiritual warfare at play. The Bible warns us in 1 Peter 5:8, "Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary, the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour." But we also know that greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4).

Your decision to remove the stumbling blocks from your life, those games and other influences that feed temptation, is a bold and godly step. Jesus Himself said in Matthew 5:29-30, "If your right eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out and throw it away from you. For it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish, than for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna. If your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off, and throw it away from you. For it is more profitable for you that one of your members should perish, than for your whole body to be cast into Gehenna." This isn’t a call to literal self-harm, but a powerful illustration of how seriously we must take sin and the things that lead us into it. You’re doing the right thing by cutting off the sources of temptation, even when it’s difficult.

We must also address the deeper issue of lust and the fear of falling back into it. Lust is not just a physical struggle; it’s a heart issue. Jesus said in Matthew 15:19, "For out of the heart come forth evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, sexual sins, thefts, false testimony, and blasphemies." The battle begins in the mind and the heart, and that’s where we must fight it. We encourage you to fill your mind with Scripture, memorizing verses that speak to purity and self-control. Psalm 119:9-11 says, "How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart. Don’t let me wander from your commandments. I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you."

We also want to gently remind you that victory comes through Jesus Christ alone. If you haven’t already, we urge you to surrender your life fully to Him, acknowledging Him as your Lord and Savior. Romans 10:9 says, "If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." There is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12), and it is only through His power that we can overcome sin. If you’ve already made this commitment, we encourage you to draw near to Him daily, confessing your struggles and relying on His strength.

We also notice your mention of fear, fear that the struggle will get worse. Fear is not from God. 2 Timothy 1:7 tells us, "For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control." Instead of fearing the battle, trust in the Lord’s faithfulness. He has promised in 1 Corinthians 10:13, "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." You are not alone in this fight, and God will provide a way out when temptation comes.

Let’s pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, lifting up this precious brother who is fighting a hard battle against lust and temptation. Lord, we thank You for his courage in removing the stumbling blocks from his life. We ask that You would strengthen him in this moment of vulnerability, that he would not grow weary or discouraged. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit, Lord, and grant him the fruit of self-control.

Father, we ask that You would cleanse his heart and mind, replacing impure thoughts with Your truth. Help him to hide Your Word in his heart, that he might not sin against You. We rebuke the enemy’s lies that tell him he is powerless or that this struggle is too great. Remind him, Lord, that You are greater than any temptation, and that through Christ, he is more than a conqueror (Romans 8:37).

We pray for Your peace to guard his heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). Where there is fear, replace it with faith. Where there is weakness, replace it with Your strength. Surround him with godly accountability, Lord, and lead him to brothers in Christ who can walk alongside him in this battle.

We declare victory over this struggle in the name of Jesus. May this brother experience the freedom that comes from living in obedience to You. Thank You, Lord, for Your faithfulness and for the power of the cross. We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

We encourage you to seek out a trusted, godly brother in Christ who can hold you accountable and pray with you. Proverbs 27:17 says, "Iron sharpens iron; so a man sharpens his friend’s countenance." You don’t have to fight this battle alone. Also, consider fasting as a way to draw closer to God and seek His strength in this area. Jesus said in Matthew 17:21, "But this kind doesn’t go out except by prayer and fasting."

Lastly, remember that God’s grace is sufficient for you. His power is made perfect in your weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). Every time you resist temptation, you are growing stronger in Christ. Keep pressing forward, and don’t lose heart. The Lord is with you, and He will never leave you nor forsake you (Hebrews 13:5).

We're standing with you in this moment, and we want you to know we recognize the courage it took to delete everything. That wasn't a small decision, it was a decisive act of war against something that has held you for a long time. And we also hear the fear underneath it: what happens now, when the familiar escape is gone and the feelings you've been numbing start to surface?

That fear makes sense. Addictive behaviors, whether substances or screens, often serve a real function. They insulate us from worry, from guilt, from pain, from the exhausting work of just getting through the day. When you pull that out by the roots, the feelings it was covering don't just vanish. They rise. And for someone already carrying anxiety and the weight of depression, that rising can feel overwhelming. So what you're bracing for is real, and you're not weak for dreading it.

But here's something we think you need to hear: the sharpness of this season does not mean you're going backward. The rawness, the ache, the restlessness, these are not signs that you've made a mistake. They're signs that you've removed something that was keeping you from feeling what was already there. And facing what's already there, with God and with others, is the path toward actual freedom, not just white-knuckle abstinence.

One step that may help right now: don't try to gut this out alone in silence. You've named the sin, you've deleted the games, now let someone trustworthy in your real life know what you're walking through. A pastor, a mature friend, someone from a recovery group at your church, someone who will pray with you and check in on you when the pull gets strong and the mood drops low. Isolation is where these battles are lost. Honest, ongoing connection is where they're won.

And if that anxiety surges to a point where you can't function or it feels like the walls are closing in, please consider talking with a doctor or a Christian counselor. There's no shame in getting help for the very real physical and emotional toll this kind of fight can take.

Lord Jesus, you see our friend right now, the fear, the rawness, the longing to be free. Hold them steady in this hard beginning. When the darkness presses close, be their light. When the anxiety spikes, speak peace that doesn't make sense. Give them one person who will walk this road beside them. And let this costly act of obedience become the first real taste of the freedom you died to give them. Amen.

Your action was necessary, and I am thankful you have taken such a decisive step. To cut off the right hand that offends and pluck out the eye that ensnares is no mere figure of speech; it is the painful obedience of a soul that dreads sin more than it loves its ease. The very anxiety you feel, the trembling at what may follow, is a proof that the Spirit has not abandoned you to a hardened heart. When a man deletes his idols, the devil does not quietly withdraw; he redoubles his clamor, for an unoccupied house is a target for the unclean spirit seeking to return. Yet be not dismayed, for the command is plain and unconditional: "Fear not, for I will help thee." The Lord does not say, "Fear only so much," but "Fear not." This is not a suggestion whispered by a well-meaning friend, but the very word of your Savior who holds the keys of death and hell. To be afraid is to dishonor the Omnipotent arm that has pledged itself to your aid.

You mention another struggle, and you fear it will worsen now that one outlet has been stopped. Let me remind you that temptation, though it presents itself with a new face, is an old enemy. Do not be so crude as to imagine that because the grosser channel is dammed, the corrupt fountain within will simply dry up of itself. Our soul, like a diseased body, often grows feverish when one symptom is treated. Yet Christ is a complete physician. The prayer "Lead us not into temptation" is a childlike pouring out of a fear that grieves you, and it is a prayer He taught you to pray. It exhibits a holy self-suspicion, a dread of contact with sin. But let your fear be the fear that drives you to the mercy seat, not the terror that paralyzes your knees and keeps you from it. The fear of God is a clean fear, enduring forever, born of forgiveness; the fear that now gnaws at you with thoughts of future failure is a weakening, dishonoring fear that must be chased away with the whip of divine promise. It unfits you for the very watchfulness required.

Recovery from the grip of a long-indulged sin is often slow. Do not expect that the lust which was fed by those games will starve in a single day. The flesh will cry out, and the imagination, a traitor within the gates, will reproduce images with startling clarity. This is the temptation on the pinnacle, a natural fear of falling assailed by a diabolical whisper to do something desperate, to throw yourself down in despair of ever standing. Resist that whisper. The fear of falling is not itself sin unless it drives you to unbelief or back to the mire. When the temptation surges, tell your Father about it instantly. "Casting all your care upon Him, for He careth for you." The anxiety you carry about your own state is a burden He never meant for your shoulders.

I warn you plainly: never go into temptation. The man who prays "Lead us not into temptation" and then parleys with it, or leaves the door ajar for its return, is a liar before God. You have done well to delete the games. Now, fill the void not with mere emptiness, but with holy employment. The soil must be planted with good seed, or the nettles will return thicker than before. Above all, do not measure God's strength by your own. Samson was the weakest of men at the very point of his famed strength. Your only safety is to have no confidence in the flesh. Look into your Savior's breast; away with sad doubt and anxious fear. Mercy is all that is written there. He will strengthen you in the Lord, and in the power of His might, not in a sudden leap, but by degrees, that you may acknowledge each increase of strength as a new claim on your affection.

To delete those games and every unclean image from your computer is a deed of great courage and a necessary amputation of the hand that caused you to sin. You have rightly seen that these things fed the lust that was enslaving you, and by cutting them off you have struck a decisive blow against the madness that held you captive. Yet now you fear the emptiness that follows, and you dread that the affliction of your mind will grow worse in their absence. Do not be surprised that the tempter now assaults you more fiercely, for when a soul begins to flee from sin, the enemy redoubles his efforts, hoping to drive you back through despair.

But listen to the Apostle: “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it.” He does not promise that the trial will vanish at once; rather, He promises the strength to endure and a path through it. The very fear you feel, that your condition might worsen, is itself a temptation designed to make you believe you cannot stand without your former crutches. Yet consider how God often permits seasons of inner darkness not to destroy us, but to teach us to cling to Him alone. When a mother sees her child stray into dangerous play, she may send a servant to frighten him, not to harm but to draw him back to her arms. So now, your soul, stripped of its worldly comforts, is being called back to the true refuge.

The state you dread, this heaviness of heart, this restless anxiety, may indeed press upon you for a time. But do not imagine it is sent for your ruin. David, Job, Joseph, and all the saints were made glorious through tribulations, not by avoiding them. Paul himself was given a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to buffet him, and when he begged for its removal, the Lord answered, “My grace is sufficient for you.” That thorn remained, yet it became the occasion of greater power and humility. So too may your present struggle become the soil in which patience and purity take root, if only you will persist in prayer and not lose heart.

When the waves of depression or the pangs of lust seem ready to drown you, cry out with the Canaanite woman. She was called a dog, yet she pressed on, and her perseverance made her worthy of the children’s bread. You may feel unworthy; you may feel that prayer brings no immediate relief. Still, keep knocking. It is not God’s intent to deny you, but through the delay He is training you to desire Him more deeply. And when you do receive a moment’s peace or a small victory, give thanks, for even the brief respite is His gift, meant to strengthen you for the next battle.

Guard also against the thought that by deleting these things you have already conquered. The demons of lust and sloth will wait for a time of weariness or solitude to suggest you can return just a little, just for comfort. That is a snare. Fill the empty hours not with idle browsing but with the Psalms, with spiritual reading, with the assembling of yourself among the faithful. Let the mind feast on what is pure, so that the appetite for filth is starved. Moderation in all things, sleep, food, recreation, will calm the bodily passions and steady the mind.

Finally, lift up your eyes to Him who justifies you. The Judge has already declared you righteous through the blood of His Son, and Christ Himself intercedes for you. If God is for you, who can stand against you? The accuser may whisper that you are beyond hope, but his charges are silenced by the cross. Entrust the future to your Saviour, and walk step by step today. He will make a way, even when the path seems dark.

The action you took, deleting those games, was a courageous move. You recognized that this was an area where your desires were pulling you away from God, and you cut off the source. That is exactly the kind of drastic step Scripture encourages when we feel the pressure of temptation. It is far harder to run from the place of temptation than to stay and fight in our own strength, but you chose the better path. Any dead fish can float downstream, but you are choosing to swim against the current.

You mentioned the fear of falling into a worse state, and that the withdrawal might intensify. That is a real struggle, but it is vital to understand what is actually happening. Temptation itself is not sin. You are not sinning by feeling the pull, the anxiety, or the craving. Even our Lord was tempted in every way we are, and He felt the full pressure of it. The sin is not in being tempted; it is in yielding to it, in letting that desire conceive and give birth to disobedience. Right now, you are in the fight, not the failure.

The fear you feel is often the flesh crying out because it is being starved. The desires of the flesh never truly find fulfillment; they only demand more. The only way to deal with a lust is to starve it to death. This period of discomfort is that starvation process. When Satan tempted Jesus, the core offer was always a shortcut to immediate fulfillment apart from God's path and timing. The temptation to go back promises immediate relief, but it is a lie that leads to a deeper blindness and a colder heart. Sin, when it has finished its work, brings a kind of death. But you have been given a way out.

In this battle, your greatest weapon is the Word of God. Just as Jesus answered every attack with "It is written," you must fill your mind with Scripture. When the thoughts come to reinstall the games, to escape the discomfort, or to despair, you counter them with the truth. Pray that God would replace the lust of the eyes and the pride of life with a delight in His law. Your mind will not stay a vacuum; it must be filled. Ask Him to help you set your thoughts on things above, not on earthly things.

Do not let the fear of your depression worsening become a self-fulfilling prophecy or an excuse to turn back. Being a follower of Christ is not a divine immunity from deep, troubling emotions. In this world we will have tribulation, but He is with us in the midst of it. He is a high priest who understands what you are going through because He experienced the full force of human weakness and pressure. He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust. He is touched by your weakness, and His grace is sufficient for you.

The iniquity of this age will always be trying to pull you back into the mire. It is not easy to live a life that is contrary to a world that is so completely given over to gratifying the flesh. But remember, the things of this world, and the lusts for them, are passing away. You are not alone in this struggle. God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape. Sometimes that escape is simply the strength to endure without giving in, and that endurance, that patience, is what God is developing in you right now. Let your faith be tested, knowing that this testing produces patience, and let patience do its complete work.

If you have faltered, know that He is a God of restoring grace. The hair can begin to grow again. Do not let your failures of the past define you or become an excuse to give up. Run to Him, and keep running. The Spirit is willing even when your flesh is weak. Keep your eyes on Jesus, who resisted the shortcut, endured the cross, and is now seated at the right hand of God, able to help you in your time of need.
