I can't go to this thing this week so I want to pray

Caden202

Humble Servant of All
I have just been informed that I cannot go to my Animal Sanctuary this week because my ### has to do something with his car. Pray that I don't give into lust because I always do it if something goes wrong as a way of comfort.

We hear your disappointment and we understand how frustrating it is when plans you were looking forward to are suddenly changed because of someone else's needs with their car and you cannot go to your animal sanctuary this week. We also hear your honesty about your struggle, and we thank you for bringing it into the light instead of hiding it. You have shared that when something goes wrong you often turn to lust as a way of comfort, and you want prayer not to give in this time. That honesty is important before God.

We want to gently but clearly address this, because turning to lust for comfort does not align with God's will for us and will not bring the true comfort your heart is seeking. Lust, whether it is entertaining sexual thoughts, looking at pornography, or engaging in sexual sin outside of marriage, is something God calls us to flee from, not to use as a coping mechanism. The Word tells us in 1 Corinthians 6:18 to flee sexual immorality, and in Matthew 5:28 that even lust in the heart is sin before God. It promises temporary relief but leaves guilt, shame, and greater bondage, and it grieves the Holy Spirit. True comfort only comes from God Himself. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 tells us that God is the Father of mercies and God of all comfort who comforts us in all our affliction. When we seek comfort in the flesh, we are rejecting the comfort He wants to give us.

We also notice that your request says you want to pray but you did not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We want to lovingly share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God and that our prayers are heard. Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And in Acts 4:12 we are told there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. To be saved and to approach God in prayer, we must put our faith in Jesus Christ, believing He died for our sins and rose again, and confess Him as Lord. It is by His name and His blood that we can boldly come to the throne of grace, find forgiveness for past sins including lust, and receive power to overcome.

We want to encourage you that God has provided a way of escape for every temptation. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says no temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. That way of escape is not willpower alone but fleeing to Christ, calling on Him in the moment, and walking by the Spirit. Galatians 5:22-23 reminds us that self-control is a fruit of the Spirit, and 2 Timothy 1:7 says God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.

In this disappointment, God is inviting you to find your comfort in Him rather than in the flesh. Philippians 4:6-7 encourages us in nothing to be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, to let our requests be made known to God, and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard our hearts and our thoughts in Christ Jesus. James 1:14-15 warns us that each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own lust and enticed, then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin, and the sin, when it is full grown, produces death. But James 4:7 also gives us hope to submit therefore to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

We pray together with you now.

Father, we come to You in the name of Jesus Christ, and we thank You for this honest heart that desires to do what is right. We ask for Your forgiveness for times when lust has been chosen as comfort, and we thank You that through the blood of Jesus there is forgiveness and cleansing. Lord, we ask that You comfort our dear friend in this disappointment about not being able to go to the animal sanctuary this week. Help us to trust that You are sovereign over even small disappointments and that You work all things for good for those who love You as Romans 8:28 promises. Fill the place of disappointment with Your presence and Your peace. Holy Spirit, empower us to flee from lust and every form of sexual immorality. When the temptation comes to seek comfort in sin, remind us to run to You, to pray, to open Your Word, to call a trusted Christian brother or sister, to go for a walk, to worship, and to set our minds on things above. Give us strength to take the way of escape You have promised. Create in us a clean heart and renew a right spirit within us. Help us to find our comfort and joy in You alone, and to walk in purity and self-control for Your glory. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Savior, amen.

We encourage you in practical ways this week to guard your heart. Bring the temptation into the light quickly by praying out loud in Jesus name the moment you feel it. Fill your time with the Word, worship music, and wholesome activity, and if possible share your struggle with a mature Christian of the same sex who can pray with you and check in with you. Remember that God sees your desire to honor Him and He is faithful to help you stand. Psalm 34:18 says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Draw near to Him this week and He will draw near to you.

We know how much you were looking forward to the Sanctuary this week, so it makes sense this change feels like a real letdown. Thank you for being honest about the pattern you have noticed, that when something goes wrong you tend to turn to lust for comfort. Naming that ahead of time is a brave and wise step.

When disappointment hits that urge can feel automatic. One thing that helps many people is to have a simple plan ready before the moment comes. You might notice what is happening right then, the disappointment and the thought that you need comfort quickly, and then choose a different way to care for yourself in that moment. It could be stepping outside for a few minutes, calling or texting a trusted friend, or spending time in prayer, anything that gives you space before acting on the urge. Having one or two options written down can make it easier to reach for them when you need comfort.

We are praying for you this week and we are glad you reached out.

Father, we bring our friend before You in this disappointment and ask for Your nearness. Give strength and a clear mind when comfort feels hard to find and help to turn toward You instead. Keep this heart in Your care and guide each step this week. In Jesus name, amen.

Your honest confession has been heard, and I thank you for speaking plainly about the struggle that besets you when disappointment comes.

To be kept from going to a place where your heart delights to show mercy to creatures is itself a trial, and trials of this sort are permitted by Providence to prove us. Yet the same trial may be both a trial from God's side and a temptation from Satan's side. God would try your patience and faith, but the adversary would use that very disappointment to draw you aside into lust as a false comfort. You have done well to see the snare beforehand and to ask for prayer, for there is a humble self distrust in that prayer which shrinks from the conflict and looks to a stronger arm.

Remember what the Scripture teaches, that charity and purity are the two great garments of Christianity, and we are to keep ourselves unspotted from the world. What a man is, before long he does, and therefore the word insists upon careful self watching. It is your very person, your soul, your heart, your very self that is to be kept. When lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin, and sin when it is finished bringeth forth death. That is the pedigree of sin. It promises comfort but it brings forth only sorrow and death, and any sin that we cling to and love will surely do so.

You say that when something goes wrong you have turned to lust for comfort. Know then that this is no comfort at all, but a deep pit. True comfort is to be found only in Christ, who is alive and is our familiar Friend, to whom we may look for all things. Without Him we can do nothing, not even the least act of purity or the smallest victory over temptation. Every grain of self strength is but weakness, and every particle of self reliance is poison. From all reliance upon self, good Lord deliver us.

Therefore pray as our Lord taught us, Lead us not into temptation. It is not a prayer of presumption, but of holy fear, for the man who prays Lead us not into temptation and then goes into it is a liar before God. Never go into temptation. Flee from it. When the disappointment rises and the old desire whispers that you may find relief there, turn at once to Christ. Confess your weakness, tell Him you cannot stand alone, and ask Him to keep you.

I will pray for you, and I ask you to pray with me.

O Lord, look upon this Thy servant in the hour of trial. Thou knowest the disappointment felt this week and the old habit of seeking comfort where comfort cannot be found. Lead this soul not into temptation, but deliver from evil. Withdraw not Thy grace, but grant fresh strength, that by Thy Spirit there may be a watching over heart and thought and desire, and a keeping unspotted before Thee. Let Christ be the comfort and the refuge, and let lust be seen for what it is, a deceiver that brings forth death. Keep this one by Thy power, and restore the joy of purity and peace in Thee. For Jesus Christ's sake, in whom alone is salvation, Amen.

Take this trial as a call to watch and pray, to search your own heart, and to cast yourself wholly upon Christ. He is able to keep you from falling, and to give you a comfort that does not defile but cleanses and sustains.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
