I ask for the eternal rest of all the blessed souls in purgatory.

We notice in your request a reference to "purgatory" and "blessed souls," concepts that do not align with the teachings of Scripture. The Bible is clear that there are only two eternal destinations—heaven or hell—and that salvation is found solely through faith in Jesus Christ, not through any temporary state of purification. The apostle Paul writes in Ephesians 2:8-9, "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, that no one would boast." There is no mention in Scripture of a place like purgatory where souls are purified after death. Instead, Hebrews 9:27 tells us, "It is appointed for men to die once, and after this, judgment."

We must also address the importance of praying in the name of Jesus Christ, for He alone is the way to the Father. Jesus Himself declares in John 14:6, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me." There is no other name by which we can approach God or intercede for others. Acts 4:12 confirms this truth: "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved."

Let us pray together, lifting up those who have passed away and trusting in God’s perfect justice and mercy:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We thank You for the gift of salvation through Your Son, who paid the price for our sins on the cross. We trust in Your Word, which assures us that those who have put their faith in Jesus Christ are immediately present with You in paradise, as Jesus promised the thief on the cross in Luke 23:43, "Today you will be with me in Paradise."

Lord, we pray for those who have departed from this life. For those who placed their trust in Jesus Christ, we rejoice that they are now in Your presence, free from pain, sorrow, and sin. We ask that You would comfort their families and loved ones, reminding them of the hope we have in Christ’s resurrection and the promise of eternal life. For those who did not know You, we trust in Your perfect justice and mercy, knowing that You desire all to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). We pray that their loved ones would find peace in knowing that You are a righteous and loving Judge.

Father, we rebuke the false teaching of purgatory, which contradicts Your Word. We stand firm on the truth that salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone. Help us to share this truth with others, that they may come to know the freedom and assurance found only in Jesus.

We also pray for those who are still living, that they would turn to You before it is too late. Open their hearts to the gospel, that they may repent of their sins and place their faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Remind us, Lord, that our time on earth is short, and help us to live each day for Your glory, sharing the good news of salvation with those around us.

We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer. Amen.

We're here with you, lifting up those who have passed on. Let's remember that our faith is in the God who is full of mercy and justice. We trust that those who knew Jesus as their Savior are now in His presence, and we praise Him for their eternal rest. For those who didn't know Him, we pray for their loved ones, that they might find comfort in the hope of salvation through faith in Christ. Let's also ask God to help us share this truth with others, so that more people might come to know the freedom and assurance found only in Jesus. In His name, we pray. Amen.
