I am feeling afraid and I don’t know why

We hear your cry in the stillness of the night, and our hearts join with yours as we lift this burden before the Lord. Fear and restlessness can weigh heavily on the soul, especially when their source is unknown. But we take comfort in knowing that God does not give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7). The night may feel long, but His mercies are new every morning, and His faithfulness is great (Lamentations 3:22-23).

Let us first address the fear that grips you. Scripture tells us, "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind" (2 Timothy 1:7 WEB). Fear is not from the Lord, and we must resist it by standing firm in the truth of His Word. The psalmist declares, "When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you" (Psalm 56:3 WEB). Even in the darkness, God is your light and your salvation—whom shall you fear? (Psalm 27:1 WEB). We rebuke the spirit of fear in the name of Jesus Christ, for He has not given you this fear, and it has no place in your life.

We also recognize that sleeplessness and worry can be tools of the enemy to steal your peace and weaken your faith. Jesus Himself asks, "Can any of you by worrying add one moment to your life?" (Matthew 6:27 WEB). Worry accomplishes nothing, but prayer and thanksgiving shift our focus from our fears to the One who holds all things in His hands. We encourage you to cast all your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7 WEB). The Lord invites you to come to Him when you are weary and burdened, and He will give you rest (Matthew 11:28 WEB).

Now, let us pray together for you:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, who is our peace and our rest. Lord, we lift up this precious child of Yours who is struggling with fear and restlessness in the night. We ask that You would calm their heart and mind, replacing fear with Your perfect peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Lord, we rebuke the spirit of fear and declare that it has no hold on them, for You have not given them a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind.

Father, we ask that You would grant them sound sleep. Let Your angels watch over them as they rest, and may they wake refreshed and renewed in body, mind, and spirit. Lord, if there is any hidden worry or burden weighing on their heart, we ask that You would reveal it to them so they may cast it upon You. Remind them that You are their refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1 WEB). Help them to trust in You with all their heart and not lean on their own understanding (Proverbs 3:5 WEB).

Lord, we also ask that You would draw them closer to You during this time. If they have not yet placed their trust in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, we pray that You would reveal Your love and salvation to them. For there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12 WEB). May they find their hope and security in You alone.

We thank You, Father, for Your faithfulness and for hearing our prayer. We trust that You are working all things together for good for those who love You and are called according to Your purpose (Romans 8:28 WEB). May Your peace guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus. In Jesus' mighty name, we pray. Amen.

In the days ahead, we encourage you to fill your mind with the truth of God’s Word. Meditate on Scriptures that speak of His peace, protection, and love. Psalm 91 is a powerful passage to declare over your life, especially when fear tries to creep in. Speak it aloud and let it remind you that God is your refuge and fortress, your God in whom you trust.

If this fear persists, we also encourage you to examine your heart and life. Is there unconfessed sin, unforgiveness, or a lack of trust in God’s sovereignty that may be opening the door to these feelings? The enemy often attacks when we are vulnerable, so we must stand firm in our faith and put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18 WEB). Resist the devil, and he will flee from you (James 4:7 WEB).

Lastly, surround yourself with fellow believers who can pray for you and encourage you in your walk with Christ. Do not carry this burden alone, for the body of Christ is called to bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2 WEB). We are here for you, and we will continue to stand in the gap on your behalf. May the Lord bless you with His peace and presence, now and always.

We're right there with you, friend, in the quiet of the night. It's tough when fear and restlessness keep us awake, especially when we're not sure what's causing them. But remember, God hasn't given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. He's with us, even in the darkness.

Let's claim that promise together. We declare that the spirit of fear has no place in your life, because Jesus hasn't given it to you. We ask that God would fill you with His perfect peace, the kind that only He can give, the kind that guards your heart and mind.

We also ask that God would grant you sound sleep. Let His angels watch over you as you rest, and may you wake refreshed and renewed. If there's any worry or burden hidden in your heart, we ask that God would reveal it to you, so you can cast it upon Him. He's your refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

And if you haven't yet placed your trust in Jesus, we pray that God would reveal His love and salvation to you. There's no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.

We thank God for hearing our prayer, and we trust that He's working all things together for your good. Keep filling your mind with God's Word, especially the promises of His peace and love. If this fear persists, examine your heart and life. Is there any unconfessed sin, unforgiveness, or lack of trust that might be opening the door to these feelings? Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.

You're not alone in this, friend. We're here for you, praying and standing with you. May the Lord bless you with His peace and presence, now and always.

Father in heaven in the power of the Holy Ghost, and in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I ask You for this one who is being tormented. By the power that You have given me Jesus, I tread upon every serpent, and scorpion, and over all the power of the enemy that is afflicting this one. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I command that every devil that is bringing restlessness, and fear be gone in Jesus' name. That the peace that passes all understanding come, and the joy of the Lord be their strength. In Jesus' name! Amen!

It’s 2:46 am at night, I am feeling restless & afraid. Pray for ### for sound sleep, deliverance from sleeplessness, worry & fear.

Thank you in advance.
For me music always helps to soothe the restlessness during insomnia and anxiety. Lauren Daigle's - (You Say) is a very good choice to listen to. No need to fear, the Lord is with you, we are with you.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
