I am desperate

Your affliction is great, and your heart cries out for relief. But hear what is written: "Whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them." If you wish your neighbors to cease their torment, have you first sought their good? Have you prayed not only for your own deliverance, but for their souls? Prayer is a mighty weapon, yet without works it rusts in the hand.

Rise early, make supplication with tears, and then go forth and seek their welfare in whatever way you can, if not in word, then in silent kindness. For love never fails, and it means bearing all things, enduring all things. You say they know what they do and do it more when you complain. Then cease to complain, and instead commit them to God, who sees in secret.

Do not let their malice steal your peace, for the peace Christ gives is not as the world gives. If you can do nothing outward, still you may keep the inner fortress. But also examine yourself: are you entirely without fault? Have you perhaps in your distress returned evil for evil, even in thought?

"Judge not, and ye shall not be judged." Yet I know your pain is consuming. You say you have no one to talk to. Then pour out your soul before the Lord alone, but do not neglect the prayers of the Church. Have you asked the brethren to intercede?

For even the apostle Peter, when imprisoned, was delivered by the fervent prayer of the faithful. But let not your request be only for your own ease; pray for those who misuse you, that they may be saved. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour, who desires all men to come to the knowledge of the truth. Consider, too, that our light affliction, which is but for a moment, works for us a far more exceeding weight of glory.

Endure as seeing Him who is invisible. I do not tell you this lightly; I know what it is to suffer. But if we suffer with Him, we shall also reign with Him. Therefore, arm yourself with patience and with love, which is the bond of perfectness.

Give thanks in all things, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Trust not in the removal of the trial, but seek to be made perfect through it. And if your present state is unbearable, consider even now if there is any honorable way you might find respite, while still keeping charity. But above all, keep your heart from bitterness, for that is a worm that devours the soul.

I will pray with you, and yet I urge you: let your own prayer be joined with a meek and quiet spirit, which is of great price before God.

Your words carry the weight of a soul that has been crushed for far too long, and what you are enduring is genuinely cruel. To feel trapped in your own home, to have your cries for help met with more torment, and to feel utterly alone in it is a kind of suffering that goes deep into the bones. It is not small, and you are not foolish for feeling broken by it.

There is a strange and difficult truth that runs alongside our deepest pain. Often, when we are convinced that God has turned away, that He is silent, He is actually working most intently on a deliverance we cannot yet see. I think of a patriarch in Genesis who was beside himself with grief, absolutely certain that everything was against him. He cried out in despair, unable to see that the very circumstances he was wailing over were the hidden, masterful strokes of God preserving his entire family. He was moaning in the middle of a story that was actually his victory. You are in the middle of your chapter right now, and the ending has not yet been written. The thundering footsteps above you are not a sign of God’s absence, even though they feel like a block between you and any peace.

What you are experiencing now, as relentless and consuming as it is, is a moment. It is a terrible, heavy moment, but it is not the final word. That is not just a nice sentiment; it is a promise rooted in the scales of eternity. The affliction that grinds you down today will one day be so dwarfed by the glory that is coming that it will not even be worthy of comparison. Your unseen Savior endured the cruelty of men who knew exactly what they were doing. He gave His back to those who struck Him, and He was led like a lamb to the slaughter, so that you would never be alone in your torture. He knows the sound of a footstep meant to terrorize. He knows the feeling of being cornered and plotted against. He has not abandoned you to your ceiling; He has entered into your suffering and sits with you on that bed.

It is also no small thing that you feel you have no one left to talk to. When the ears around us grow tired, we can feel like a burden. But there is an honestness we can have before the Lord that needs no polished words. The cry of “O wretched person that I am, who will deliver me?” is a holy, desperate prayer. You do not need to pretend you are not at the end of your rope. The end of yourself is precisely where the delivering strength of Christ begins to do what you cannot do for yourself. The battle inside you right now between despair and faith is real, but the Spirit inside you is greater than any spirit of torment that seeks to crush you in that building.

Let us pray now for your concrete deliverance, not as a last resort, but as a real appeal to the God who quiets storms. May the Lord, who commands even the hearts of kings, be a shield between you and those who would cause you harm. May He open a door you cannot see right now, whether a softening of heart in your neighbors, an unexpected path of provision to move, or a sudden intervention of peace. I will ask Him to give you the grace to lift your hands to Him for your own life, even when they feel too heavy to raise, and to send someone to show you the practical kindness of a neighbor who acts and does not just pass by. You are not forgotten in your distress, even now.

We are so grieved to hear of the torment you’ve endured for so long, and we want you to know we have not stopped lifting you before the throne of grace. This relentless harassment is not just an earthly trial—it is a spiritual battle, and we stand with you in fervent prayer, believing that God sees your suffering and hears your cries. We have asked Him to intervene in ways only He can: to silence the stomping, to soften hearts, to open a door for escape or relief, and to surround you with His peace that surpasses understanding.

If the Lord has already moved in this situation—if there has been even the smallest measure of quiet, a change in the atmosphere, or a glimmer of hope—we would be overjoyed to hear it. Please share a praise report so we can rejoice with you. But if the torment continues unabated, we urge you not to lose heart. Post this request again as a new plea, and we will continue to storm heaven on your behalf. You are not forgotten, and you are not alone in this fight.

May the Father strengthen you with His mighty right hand, may Jesus Christ wrap you in His comfort, and may the Holy Spirit fill you with endurance and hope. We pray this in the powerful name of Jesus, trusting that He will make a way where there seems to be no way.
