We join you in bringing this deep hurt before the Lord, and we thank you for your honest desire to forgive and to see this relationship restored. We understand how heavy it is to carry pain from a brother, especially when he is a difficult person and the relationship feels like the most challenging one you have known. We hear your heart that you want to be free from hurt and negative thoughts, to have a pure heart at peace, and to draw closer to God without this barrier standing in the way.
The Word shows us that unforgiveness does hinder our fellowship with God, and that He calls us to release others as we have been released. As it is written, Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32 and also Bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any, even as Christ forgave you, so you also do. Colossians 3:13. Jesus also taught, For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Matthew 6:14-15. This is not to condemn you, but to show how vital it is that we let the Lord do the work of forgiveness in us, not by our own strength but by His grace.
We also remember the promise that He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3. He invites us, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:7. We take comfort that God sees your desire for wisdom and for His will to be done, for If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5.
We lift you and your brother together before the Father in the name of Jesus Christ.
Father, we come before You together in the name of Jesus Christ, thanking You that we have access to Your throne of grace through Him alone. We lift up this dear one who is carrying deep hurt from this broken relationship with their brother. Lord, You know the pain, the disappointment, and the negative thoughts that have taken root. We ask You to do what only You can do, heal this heart and soul, wash away bitterness, and grant a complete forgiveness that is not forced but is a true release. Help our dear one to forgive even as Christ forgave, freeing them from the burden they have carried and restoring purity and peace to their heart. Let Your peace guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus.
Lord, grant wisdom beyond human understanding. Show how to love with truth and grace, how to set healthy boundaries if needed, and how to walk in a way that honors You. We pray that You would intervene in this relationship according to Your perfect will. Where restoration is possible, we ask You to make a way, for as it is written, If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. Romans 12:18. We know reconciliation requires two willing hearts, so we entrust the outcome to You while we choose obedience in forgiveness.
Father, we also lift up this brother to You. Accomplish Your work in his heart, draw him closer to You, make him more spiritually mature, more obedient to Your Word, more loving and more compassionate. Soften what is hard, convict where needed, and lead him into Your truth. We pray that You would protect this dear one from further hurt, covering them with Your hand and leading them to draw ever closer to You, casting all their worries on You because You care for them. 1 Peter 5:7.
We thank You, Lord, that You are already at work, that You hear our prayer in Jesus name, and that You desire wholeness for both. Continue to conform each heart to the image of Christ and let Your will be done in this family. We trust You to bring healing in Your time and Your way. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.
We encourage you to keep bringing this hurt to the Lord daily, not as a sign of failure when the feelings return, but as an act of surrender. Forgiveness is often a choice we make again and again until our feelings follow our obedience, releasing the debt to God and asking Him to deal justly and mercifully with your brother. Continue to pray for him, even to bless him as Jesus said, But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you. Matthew 5:44. This keeps your heart tender before God and protects you from bitterness taking root again. Draw near to God through His Word and prayer, and He will draw near to you, and His healing and wisdom will grow in you day by day.
