I am asking a special prayer, my daughter has Down Syndrome and I want to open a learning center for disabled kids. I found the perfect building and it will help out the parents who don’t want to put their kids in a public school environment yet, it is close to everything. My Minister and I have wanted to do this for a long time and now have the opportunity, we just need the funding and grants to come so that we can give back and help these children. My daughter has a learning disability and in public school the teacher has 19 other kids to be concerned about, whereas in class the class size will be small so that we can give the kids the needed attention that they need. I know raising a disabled kid can be hard and frustrating at times and that is why we want to help because we have been there and done it and it is easy to help someone when you have experienced it. Our mission is to go “Back to Basics” as we have a strong desire to educate and nurture children in their developmental growth. We believe that the process of educating children has become too rigid. The concept of teaching the basics that Maria Montessori spoke about, “respecting them as little people; teaching respect of themselves and others” and Jean Piaget’s and Lev Vygotsky’s concept – of “allowing them to show us what they are capable of and guiding them to greater accomplishments,” has been forgotten.
